Morgan's love for film began at the age of four. The year was 1975, his dad, a Science and Multi Media teacher at the local high school at the time, took him to work one day. He sat him down in front of one of the first Betamax machines and popped in the 1968 sci-fi epic "Planet of the Apes". Morgan's mind was completely blown, he was hooked on sci-fi and movies then and there. At the age of five he would walk to the local movie theater in Huntington Beach to watch the double feature for two dollars. His favorite Double Bill by far was Stephen Spielberg's "Jaws" and the 1976 "King Kong" starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange. He watched "Jaws" and "King Kong" every Saturday during that three month run. Movies enveloped him. His fascination with film exploded after watching Star Wars from the back of his mom's Ford Pinto at the Warner drive-in in 1977. From then on everything was about movies, model making and special effects. At that time Morgan was inspired by people like Rick Baker, George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, Ralph McQuarrie, Ralph Bakshi, Harlan Ellison, Robert Heinlein, Edgar Allen Poe and magazines like Cinefex and Fangoria. Morgan spent countless hours sculpting creatures, drawing and building models for miniature sets in his bedroom and garage that would never be filmed. He was fortunate enough to get into the Model Vault at ILM (twice) thanks to a close friend, a Model Maker at ILM. Surrounded by all the models he had grown up seeing in his favorite films was a dream come true, at that point he knew he wanted to work there, to work in movies. But fate had other ideas and life doing what it does, never goes as planned.
His introduction to production was a Rob Nilsson feature film called "Risk" which was filmed in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco in the mid-nineties, not exactly Star Wars. He began as a PA and was moved to boom operator two weeks into production. After that first film, he worked on several productions of various size and duration, from an HBO mini series to a documentary on So Cal wineries. Morgan has worked as a sound mixer, boom operator, grip and DP. However, the film work was spotty in the Bay Area at that time and his passion for illustration and skateboarding was more lucrative, leading him into the world of Fashion and Action Sports. He spent the majority of the next twelve years defining visual experiences and designing clothing for companies in the surf, skate and action sports industries. Never 100% satisfied with his career in sports fashion, he decided to switch gears to film making and writing in hopes of one day be able to make films full time. His first Feature Screenplay, Black Point, is making the rounds now and in development.
