Drastic, life-altering events can often times make people, especially teens who have their entire lives ahead of them, question their identities and goals. After unveiling its eponymous subscription platform last month with a full slate of originals, Fullscreen has announced the debut of its first new series since the service’s launch.
Beginning today, the network will air the first three episodes of Making Moves, a racy, nine-episode dance series featuring the YouTuber Andrea Russett -- with two additional episodes arriving every Wednesday. Dance is clearly a potent category for the digital demographic: YouTube’s first original film for its subscription service, YouTube Red, was Dance Camp, created alongside Awesomeness Films.
Making Moves, which was developed by key members of the creative team behind the Step Up franchise, will feature high-octane dance routines and tell the story of an aspiring dancer who moves to Los Angeles to make it within the cutthroat digital dance scene. Starring Raychel Diane Weiner of Starz’s Flesh And Bone, Making Moves was created and directed by John Swetnam...

Flesh and Bone, Season 1
Created by Moira Walley-Beckett
Aired Sundays at 8 pm Et on Starz
Over the past few years, Starz has made its mark on the tv landscape with numerous shows, from Spartacus to Party Down. Their latest series, from Breaking Bad writer Moira Walley-Beckett, delves into the world of ballet dancing. Titled Flesh and Bone, the miniseries explores the world from the perspective of the people associated with the American Ballet Company, and while there are some strong ideas and themes presented, the series unfortunately fails to develop them effectively.
The season’s focus is on power and control, most notably the type that is exerted over women by men. The effects that control has over different characters is by far the most compelling aspect of the season, starting from Claire’s attempts to get out of the control of the men surrounding her. This begins with the...

“It’s no big deal. I lost a toenail.”
The smeared boundary line between art and obsession has been rich storytelling fodder since long before Darren Aronofsky’s bloated Black Swan - perhaps the most obvious point of comparison for Flesh and Bone - plié-d joylessly into movie theaters. A new eight-episode Starz miniseries from Breaking Bad veteran Moira Walley-Beckett(writer of Ozymandias, maybe the most viciously tense hour of television in recent memory), Flesh and Bone is a rotten toenail hidden in a sylph-like pointe shoe. The premiere, Bulling Through, digs into wide-eyed and not-so-innocent runaway Claire Robins’ (Sarah Hay) first few days at the American Ballet Company, an exclusive performing academy at the heart of and yet austerely apart from a towering and indifferent vision of New York City.

The adage “Dance like nobody’s watching” doesn’t really apply to the ballerinas of Starz’s new Flesh and Bone. As members of one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the country, these slender, determined athletes must move like every single step, gesture and facial expression is being scrutinized in microscopic detail.
Because it is.
On that tip, we’d like to hear what you thought of the limited series, which premiered Sunday. But first, a brief recap:

All eight episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Yes, Starz’s Flesh and Bone is set within the high-stakes, higher-anxiety world of competitive ballet. No, that does not make it Black Swan: The Series. Hailing from Breaking Bad writer Moira Walley-Beckett (who penned that show’s finest hour, “Ozymandias”), the eight-episode limited series is unmistakably its own kind of creature, a “dark and gritty” drama-with-a-capital-d punctuated by moments of over-the-top camp and truly transcendent dance.
Unfortunately, it’s also a show with a debilitating identity crisis, not so much toeing the line between oppressive darkness and lurid melodrama as fluctuating between the two without a lick of the grace its fleet-footed subjects so innately possess. In its premise lies tremendous potential – for a serious drama about the relationship between pain and beauty, the sacrifices made in the pursuit of perfection, and the nightmarish underbelly of a glamorous industry. The AMC drama Breaking Bad has revealed the talents of a number of its crew over the years, with many of them going on to individual projects that have garnered attention themselves. Among them was writer and executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett, who has penned episodes such as “Ozymandias” and “Bullet Points” for the show. Walley-Beckett’s next project will see her at the helm of her own show, as she created the upcoming Starz series Flesh and Bone.
Billed as a limited series, Flesh and Bone will revolve around an aspiring ballerina in New York City, and will consist of eight episodes, with the cast being filled out by 22 professional ballet dancers. The show’s synopsis is as follows.
Claire, a talented but emotionally troubled dancer, joins a company in New York City, and soon finds herself immersed in the tough and often cutthroat world of professional ballet.
