Gold Gala is the type of weekend where you can share an intimate booth at L.A. culinary hotspot Yangban with a Pulitzer winner (journalist Jose Antonio Vargas) and a top festival exec (TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee) on Friday night and then mimosas and a sound bath at the Four Seasons the next morning with an Olympic figure skater and a former Miss Universe (Madison Chock and R’Bonney Gabriel, respectively) – all as part of mere pre-gaming to the titular main event, which took place at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Ostensibly a cultural celebration and awards dinner from Asian Pacific power broker network Gold House, the third annual Gold Gala was simultaneously an haute couture showcase (fashion designer Prabal Gurung served as its creative director) and a family reunion, with 600 Api talent and leaders from across multiple industries turning out in their finest “heritage black tie,...

The competition may be fierce at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, but it's been nothing but love for some Olympians. Although the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has prevented many people from cheering on their loved ones in-person at this year's event, certain athletes are lucky enough to be at the Olympics with their significant others after having both qualified for the sporting competition. From ice dance duos like Evan Bates and Madison Chock to curlers Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman, there seems to be no shortage of couples competing alongside one another. In fact, some Olympic pairs—such as skeleton sliders Kim Meylemans and Nicole Silveira—are even going head-to-head against each other, proving...

Canadian ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir took home their second individual gold medal in the sport Tuesday morning (Monday evening stateside), and their passionate dances are charged with so much sexual tension you’re surprised the ice doesn’t melt beneath them.
And after watching their world record-busting free dance, a sexy performance set to a medley of songs from Moulin Rouge!, there’s one question on everyone’s minds: Are Tessa and Scott dating?
Publicly, the answer is no — although the duo pointedly avoided the question when Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie directly asked them about their relationship on Today Tuesday morning.

American ice dancers Evan Bates and Madison Chock skated to a season’s best on Monday (Sunday night stateside) in their first routine at the 2018 Winter Olympics, ending in seventh place to advance to the event’s second half on Tuesday.
It was, all things considered, an energetic performance to be proud of, Bates later told reporters — in addition to everything else because Chock has for months been dealing with a foot injury that flared up again during their warmup, minutes before they took the ice.
“We just had a weird moment” when Bates was lifting Chock, she said afterward.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates are a match made in ice dancing heaven.
The ice dance duo opened up about their love life —and careers — to People prior to arriving in Pyeongchang, revealing that they were initially competitors before falling in love outside of the rink.
“Maddie and I met and we were competitors for a long time. Then, even when we started skating together, we were just friends at first,” Bates tells People. “We had a really good relationship and just as we got older, we sort of fell in love on the ice and realized that we should be together.
