Whether it was during his time as lead singer in the band Los Bukis, or as a solo artist, Marco Antonio Solis has become a staple artist in many Latinx households.
The Mexican musician's songs have been the soundtrack to many telenovelas including "El Alma no Tiene Color" and "Teresa," which were watched religiously by our moms, tias, and abuelas. As one of Mexico's most successful artists of all time with a career that spans almost four decades long, it was no surprise that he was chosen to receive The Person of the Year Award at the 2022 Latin Grammy awards. The awards show opened with a tribute to Solis with a performance by the night's hosts Thalia, Luis Fonsi, and Laura Pausini. They were later joined by Sin Bandera, Carin León, Gente de Zona, Aymée Nuviola, and Chocquibtown's Goyo who helped belt out Solis' hit songs.

There’s nothing like two early aughts legends linking up for a hit. On Thursday, Don Omar premiered “Good Girl,” a dancefloor-ready, merengue-meets-reggae track featuring Akon.
The song opens with Akon’s unmistakable voice over reggae-inspired production before a throbbing bass welcomes Don Omar. The two artists fuse their styles as the song breaks into an electric merengue melody.
“She said she’s a good girl/Turned into a bad girl/Caught up in a bad world,” sings Akon in the chorus, before Don Omar admits in Spanish, “I don...

In its continued bid to create meaningful, impactful content, Exile Content Studio has teamed up with Cuban composers/ musicians Beatriz “Bea” Luengo and Yoteul Romero to produce docu feature “Homeland and Life” (“Patria y Vida”), based on the artists’ two-time 2021 Latin Grammy-winning hip-hop song of the same title.
The doc could not be more timely as the song has become a viral sensation and a rallying cry for Cubans who have been staging massive protests against their government since July, triggered by a scarcity of food and medicine as well as the authorities’ inadequate response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Homeland and Life” will chronicle how the song ignited a movement and will also delve into how music has been a catalyst for social change across modern history. The song’s title is a rejection of the 1950s Cuban Revolution slogan “Patria o Muerte” (Homeland or Death).

Historic protests swept Cuba on Sunday as thousands of people gathered across the island and expressed their outrage over longstanding economic hardships, food scarcity, and vaccine shortages, marking one of the country’s biggest anti-government demonstrations in the last decade.
Social media videos captured Cubans marching through city streets, shouting “Libertad!” But amid the cries for “Freedom!” another refrain was heard over and over again: “Patria y vida!” a reference to a song of the same name that’s quickly become the anthem for a nation that’s reached a boiling point.

The 20-year-old Dominican-American singer Yashua returned on Friday with “Todo Es Igual,” an impressive track that smolders with some of the same melancholy intensity as Drake’s “Passionfruit.”
The beat, produced by Manuel Lara and Robbie Meza, places a ping-ponging melody next to pitter-patter percussion. Each verse slopes slowly upward, but each pretty chorus — a long, descending line on a synthesizer and a mournful, disembodied wail from Yashua — sends the singer back to the bottom of the hill. Then Yashua restarts the process of gradually building the track. He sings in both Spanish and English,...

While di Pace may not have been a front-runner when the season began, it’s possible that his competitors are starting to notice him, especially after his perfect scores. Are you ready to get emotionally manipulated by dances? Because it’s Most Memorable Year Night on “Dancing with the Stars” next week, so you better be. Returning to one episode a week, Monday’s show will feature the remaining 11 celebrities interpreting a significant — and 98 percent sentimental — year in their lives.
Some of these are obvious. Mary Lou Retton chose 1984, the year she won the Olympic all-around gold, become the first American gymnast to do so. DeMarcus Ware picked 2016, when he won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos. Evanna Lynch is reliving 2006, the year she was cast as Luna Lovegood in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” She’s also dancing to “Hedwig’s Theme” from the films. Milo Manheim chose this year because of “Zombies” and “Dancing with the Stars,” and because, you know, he’s just 17 years old.
