Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man franchise was the advent of superhero movies of the current generation. It has been exactly 17 years since the third movie in the trilogy was released, which was the conclusion of a story beloved by many. While the second installment in the trilogy is considered the best, the third one, unfortunately, did not receive similar treatment either from critics or the audience. Screenwriter Alvin Sargent was the man behind the script for the third movie, and he had a pretty good idea on how to move forward.
Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man
Spider-Man 3 ended up being a mixture of too many plots and too many characters. From Harry Osborne to Sandman to Venom, the movie had too many villains and too little time to deal with them properly. This is why Sargent thought of splitting the story into two parts – Spider-Man 3 & 4 – and tell...

Looking at her in the painting, it’s hard not to imagine that she’s looking back, John Singer Sargent’s Young Lady In White. Her name was Elsie Palmer, and one imagines that if people who were close to her back when it was painted in 1890 were still alive, they would look upon it and not only recognise someone they loved but remember why they loved her. Her expression is so specific, so absolutely personal that Sargent seems to have captured a fragment of her soul.
Of course, beauty helps. We always remember beauty – and though not everyone is blessed with it, there are certain ways in which we can all strive towards it. For the average person, the most important of these is clothing. The way that we dress, the choices we make, the beauty of garments themselves and the way they interact with skin, hair, eyes – all these.

Academics, artists and curators delve into the background behind Sargent’s glossy society portraits in this polished documentary
With impeccable timing, as the show it explores is still running at London’s Tate Britain, here is an appreciation/profile of the American painter most famous for his brilliantly rendered portraits of the late Victorian and Edwardian upper crust and nouveau riche. The art world being what it is, the film takes its cue as much from the similarly themed Sargent exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (with whom the Tate has co-produced the show); an institution that has its own significant claim to Sargent via the spectacular murals commissioned for the Boston Public Library and the Museum of Fine Arts itself.
Such is Sargent’s commitment to reproducing the shimmering wonder of the fabrics in which his subjects are often draped, it’s fair to say that “fashion” might be a valid,...

Going into 2024, podcasting executives remain incredibly bullish on growth in the sector, with an eye to creating multiple revenue streams for creators and using artificial intelligence and video to expand the audience.
While the podcast sector faced some pullback in the past year, notably with layoffs and programming cuts at Spotify, Wondery CEO Jen Sargent and Conal Byrne, CEO of the iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group, say they believe there’s still room for the medium to expand, particularly on a global level. And while the overall advertising market took a hit last year, both also see podcasting advertising growing into the next year, fueled by increasing demand.
In an effort to further globalize the medium, Byrne said he expects artificial intelligence to play a big role in the translation of podcasts into other languages. With the approval of the podcast creator, Byrne said iHeartMedia is looking to use AI to translate,...

Liz Sargent‘s moving short film “Take Me Home” packs a punch and plenty of heart in just 15 minutes of screen time. The film follows a cognitively disabled woman (Anna Sargent) and her sister (Jeena Yi) who must learn to communicate after the untimely death of their mother. Gold Derby caught a screening of the film and grabbed a chat with writer-director Sargent, who explained that the genesis of this rooted in her family history.
“I grew up as the middle child of eleven, my parents had 4 biological children, then adopted 7 more, 6 of whom are Korean and several with different disabilities. In our family, everyone is the same because everyone is different. Anna is the youngest sibling, she was born at 2 lbs, developed a cyst on her brain and was left with various disabilities such as having very little short-term memory. “One night, Barbara invited Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick,” remembers Pamela Gross, the former CNN producer and close friend of the late Barbara Walters. “She had a beautiful piano in her living room, and after dinner, Barbara and Sarah and Matthew gathered around the piano and started singing old tunes, and the rest of us were just pinching ourselves. A giant in the world of podcasting needs a “sonic signature.”
So when the prolific publisher Wondery decided it was time to brand its product by establishing an unforgettable signature, its leaders hired the creative-design firm, Made Music, behind the iconic static-screen clip that opens every HBO show. Wondery CEO Jen Sargent recalls that the branding exercise in 2018 helped the company fine-tune its vision of what Wondery podcasts should deliver to listeners.
“Imagine six or seven of us sitting in a room and asking ourselves, ‘Does this sound like wonder to you? Does this sound like wondering?’” recalls Sargent.
The efforts proved to be time well spent. Since Wondery’s launch in early 2016, podcasting as a medium has seen its listener base skyrocket. Wondery has blossomed into one of the largest producers of popular, recurring podcast series including “SmartLess,” a freewheeling conversation hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.

In its own way, Sol Saks' 1963 sitcom "Bewitched" was a subversive work. Inspired by movies like "I Married a Witch" (1942) and "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" (1957), "Bewitched" followed the everyday, quotidian, brightly-lit travails of a typical white suburban couple named Darrin Stephens and Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery).
The twist was that Samantha was a centuries-old witch, descended from a long line of magic-users. Endora (Agnes Moorehead), Samantha's colorful mother, would occasionally drop in, as would her father Maurice (Maurice Evans from "Planet of the Apes"), and uncle Arthur (legendary comedian Paul Lynde). The witches and warlocks on the show would often attempt to drive a wedge between Samantha and Darrin, but their love would prevail in the end.
Beginning in the show's third season, the Stephens had their first child, Tabitha (Erin Murphy and Diane Murphy). In the sixth season, they were joined by baby Adam (David Lawrence and Greg Lawrence).

Germany’s Zdf Studios has secured worldwide distribution rights for documentary series “Hitler’s Power” (3 x 50’), an exploration of how and why Hitler rose to power and the terrible events that followed.
On Jan. 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. The series examines why the Nazi leader was confident of the approval of most Germans, even when the war was clearly lost, and what led Germans to support the Holocaust.
Eco Media, History Media and Zdf Digital, a Zdf Studios subsidiary, teamed to co-produce “Hitler’s Power” in association with Zdf Studios.

When "Saturday Night Live" hit NBC's airwaves on October 11, 1975, expectations were tempered. With its 11:30 Pm time slot and cast of fringe comedy talents, the show was a hedged bet. If the Nielsen ratings were poor, it'd be exceedingly easy for the network to pull the plug after a few episodes.
Everyone from creator Lorne Michaels on down were confident that they'd pulled together something special, if not revolutionary, but they were also concerned that their target audience might not show up. There was also the matter of executing a live television show with a bunch of boob-tube neophytes. There were so many moving pieces that had to click into place, and zero leeway for mistakes. One slip-up could set off a domino effect of snafus, resulting in a live TV debacle for the ages.

The Area 51 Incident is something of a first. After films variously written, produced, directed and whatever else by Scott Jeffery, this marks his first appearance in front of the camera. He plays Trent who, along with another scientist, Jenny is getting a chance to visit the top-secret facility at Area 51. Coincidentally Trent’s father Doug happens to be in charge of the facility.
Equally coincidentally it happens to be the day that activity on the rift the facility monitors peaks and opens a portal to an alien world. That allows a bloodthirsty alien race to come pouring through and invade Earth. The three of them promptly take off in Doug’s conveniently parked Mercedes leaving the base’s peons to be eaten. They even stop at one point so Doug can get out and watch.
