With the appetite of a hungry grizzly, “The Bear” could gobble up a few Emmy records for its sophomore season. Fresh off a smashing first season that set a new benchmark for comedy series wins with 10 trophies, FX’s awards-gobbling show shows no signs of letting up. Its second season, which aired in June 2023, is eyeing three more records to own: most acting nominations for a series in a single year, most nods for a comedy, and most nominated episode in history with its sixth installment, “Fishes.”
“Fishes” dishes out a heated Christmas dinner flashback of the Berzatto family, positioning itself as the series’ pièce de résistance thus far — imagine the “Succession/Connor’s Wedding” version of family dinners, only with more food spills. Directed by Christopher Storer, who also co-wrote the episode with Joanna Calo, “Fishes” seems the obvious pick for Emmy nods in both directing and writing categories.

There’s still a few months until Season 3 of The Bear debuts, but Disney is holding audiences over with a clip from the upcoming installment.
The clip, revealed during Disney’s shareholder meeting on Wednesday, features Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) getting a surprise from two of his employees, Neil and Ted Fak (Matty Matheson and Ricky Staffieri).
After a bit of shouting, the pair finally get Carmy into the restaurant’s back office to see they’ve posted photos of every major food critic on the wall. Likely so that all the employees will know as soon as one of them steps foot inside the establishment.

History repeats itself in this ingenious but surprisingly heartfelt sci-fi, which takes the premise of Groundhog Day and fashions from it a poignant statement about life and mortality. Refreshingly for the genre, it focuses on a middle-aged woman — a scientist-slash-physicist, even — whose 55th birthday and final breath will occur within the same week. But though there is an element of resistance to the latter, Omni Loop is unusual in that it isn’t simply about breaking the cycle; Bernardo Britto’s film is about facing the inevitable, gently phasing out the genre elements to reach an understated but emotional climax.
Zoya Lowe, when we first meet her, is a little girl who, a voiceover tells us, is predicted “to do incredible things one day” and “change the world”. The next time we see her, Zoya is now played by Mary-Louise Parker and things are not so positive: X-rays show a...

Unlike the Miami transit service that gives the film its title and gets from first to final stop in just 16 minutes, Omni Loop takes time to wade through its tangled thicket of set-up and draw you in. But Bernardo Britto’s near-future sci-fi — about death, time travel and the cherished gifts in life we take for granted while pursuing that elusive something more — sneaks up on you. The same goes for the expertly synced performances of Mary-Louise Parker, bringing her characteristic flinty authenticity to a role that could easily have drowned in quirk, and Ayo Edebiri, demonstrating once again that she’s in the top tier of emerging American actors.
In a brief prologue, a 12-year-old girl (Riley Elise Fincher-Foster) stumbles upon a bottle of pills in the greenest of fields. “You’re gonna do incredible things one day,” a voice in her head tells her. “You’re gonna change the world.

Some people just have no sense of humor.
After Monday’s 75th Emmy Awards awarded basically three series — “Succession,” “The Bear,” and “Beef” — some TV fans were left feeling somewhere between robbed and confounded.
A number of observers simply didn’t dig the repetition; “Succession” and “Beef” each won eight Emmys, including the Creative Arts awards the weekend prior to the primetime show, and “The Bear” took home 10. Rote results, sure, but they were probably three of the best five shows of the eligibility window: June 1, 2022-May 31, 2023.
If that feels like a long time ago, that’s because it was. Monday’s Emmy Awards were supposed to air in September 2023, but were delayed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Some of the loudest opposition to Monday’s Emmys results was simply about the category that “The Bear” dominated: comedy. The resistance has a point — but that doesn’t make them right.

Jeremy Allen White has been receiving accolades for his work on the FX show The Bear, and this winter, he’ll be stretching his acting muscles (and actual muscles) as one of the Von Erich brothers in The Iron Claw. It was reported that the network had renewed the show for another season. Early next year, White will be firing up the grills yet again, as Deadline reports that’s when FX has booked reservations for The Bear‘s season 3 to begin production. The show aims to start shooting around February or March of 2024.
White is set to return as Carmy. However, when last we left the chef, he had found himself locked in a walk-in fridge in the middle of a ‘Friends and Family’ night that was taking place at the restaurant. Allen tells Deadline he “hopes” to escape the predicament in season 3 with a bevy of new guest stars.

Exclusive: Deadline has learned that Season 3 of FX/Hulu’s The Bear will commence production in late February-early March.
We caught up with current Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Allen White aka young chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on The Bear. White stars in the new A24 movie The Iron Claw as wrestler Kerry Von Erich aka “The Texas Tornado.” The movie about the tragedy-stricken wrestling Von Erich family opens on December 22. At a time when the middle of the country needs more movies, here’s a sports drama that plays straight to the heartland.

Michael Lehrer, a comedian and improv actor best known for his work in ‘ Second City,’ and ‘Masters of the Internet,’ has died with the assistance of a doctor following a years-long battle with Als. He was 44.
His girlfriend and caretaker, Colette Montague, told the Chicago Sun-Times, “Michael died with dignity on his own terms. He was not suicidal at all. … Medical aid in dying was the hardest decision he ever made.”
Despite being diagnosed with Als, the comedian and sketch artist continued to perform at clubs while confined to a wheelchair. His bits included jokes about his life and his battle with the neurodegenerative disease.
Lehrer was a regular on ‘Kill Tony,’ a live comedy podcast based in Austin, Texas where Joe Rogan and Ron White often appeared. Rogan paid his respects to Lehrer in an Instagram post.

Chicago – The funny meter of Netflix went off the scale last week, as the animated series “Chicago Party Aunt” made its debut on September 17th. What began as a Twitter account by comic actor Chris Witaske (who also provides his voice talent) has morphed into the cartoon adventures of Aunt Diane Dumbowski, her nephew Daniel, and an array of familiar Chicago-isms and characters.
The series was created by Witaske, veteran Chicago improv artist Katie Rich and actor/Chicago native Jon Barinholtz (Katie and Jon also character voices). Jon’s brother, prominent comic actor Ike Barinholtz, also serves as executive producer and voice talent. Diane Dumbrowski is voiced by veteran improv star, actress Lauren Ash, and her nephew Daniel is vocally portrayed by Broadway actor Rory O’Malley.

There’s no joke too obvious for Diane, aka the “Chicago Party Aunt,” to make with a holler and hefty wink. In the Netflix animated show adapted from Chris Witaske’s Twitter account, Diane (Lauren Ash) is just as loud, coarse and unapologetic as the tweets that inspired her. The closest she gets to showing another layer is her general annoyance with the gentrification that keeps taking over her favorite Chicago haunts. Otherwise, she’s just happy to party, give her beloved nephew Daniel (Rory O’Malley) bad advice, and defend her dirtbag way of life to the death. They eat Chicago food, have wacky misadventures, flirt with learning a life lesson, wash, rinse, repeat. If anyone can count on Diane for anything, it’s finding the crudest, most inevitable punchline for any situation. By the time she and Daniel hit up a barbecued ribs food festival, you can practically mouth...

"Missy is not who I thought she was... She's free, she's fun." Netflix has released the first official trailer for a comedy titled The Wrong Missy, the latest film from comedian / director Tyler Spindel. When things escalate fast, he invites her to a work retreat on Hawaii, realizing too late he mistakenly texted someone from a nightmare blind date - the "Wrong Missy". David Spade stars, with Lauren Lapkus as Missy, and a cast including Nick Swardson, Geoff Pierson, Jackie Sandler, Molly Sims, Sarah Chalke, Chris Witaske, and Rob Schneider. I thought they stopped making these absurd comedies! But there's always room for more. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Tyler Spindel's The Wrong Missy,...

Taraji P. Henson shows off her funny side in the first trailer for comedy 'What Men Want.'
The movie is a gender-reversed take on the 2000 hit 'What Women Want,' which starred Mel Gibson and centered on a chauvinistic executive who gains the ability to hear what women are really thinking.
In the upcoming movie, Henson plays a successful sports agent who is passed up for a well-deserved promotion and questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man's world.
After taking a "magic potion," she gains the ability to hear men's thoughts and uses her newfound power to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar. But the lengths to which she resorts puts her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.
Henson is perhaps best known for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Cookie Lyon in FOX drama "Empire" and starred in 2016 box-office hit 'Hidden Figures.'
Directed by Adam Shankman ('Hairspray'), the cast also includes Tracy Morgan, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Phoebe Robinson, Max Greenfield, Jason Jones, Brian Bosworth, Chris Witaske, and Erykah Badu.
'What Men Want' is set for release in U.S. theaters on Jan. 11, 2019.

Ever since Netflix and Judd Apatow inked a two-season deal for romantic comedy series Love in late 2014, all has been quiet as the show began to pick up steam. Fast forward to today and ahead of the series premiere in mid-February, the online streaming giant has debuted the very first image and teaser for Apatow’s latest, showcasing Paul Rust and Community‘s Gillian Jacobs in the starring roles.
Centering on the core and mismatched dynamic between Rust’s do-gooder Gus and the unhinged wild child of Jacobs, Love has been pitched as a modern-day story of a romance between two self-proclaimed commitaphobes. The official logline for Netflix’s new original drama describes Apatow’s new creative venture as so: “They’ve had plenty of romantic misses. But when a jaded Angeleno meets a nerdy guy, they may figure out this “love” thing.”
