Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, a hardened war captain who rebels against the tyrannical Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) to free his women captives alongside Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), is a large part of what made 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” a blockbuster juggernaut — now considered among viewers and critics alike to be one of the best action films of all time. She made her debut in the fourth installment of George Miller’s widely celebrated franchise, which began in 1979 with Mel Gibson starring in the title role.
Warner Bros.
While the Oscar-winning movie offered some insight into Furiosa’s backstory, including her remembrances of the “Green Place” — an idyllic location from her childhood that predates the current post-apocalyptic wasteland — her self-titled film will uncover her origin story in depth. “Furiosa” will follow the badass heroine prior to her captaining days, serving as a prequel to “Fury Road,” with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the lead role.

Sydney, May 17 (Ians) The Australian players, coaches and commentary staff who were in the 2021 Indian Premier League (Ipl) arrived in Sydney on Monday from the Maldives and will be in quarantine for 14 days.
The cricketers had gone to the Maldives after the suspension of the tournament as the Australian government had imposed a travel ban on travellers from India due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.
The group was escorted by police to quarantine hotels across Sydney after landing, according to nine.com.
Meanwhile, former Australia batsman Mike Hussey, who had tested positive for the virus, is expected to arrive in Sydney later on Monday in a flight from Qatar. While the Australians involved in the Ipl flew to the Maldives on May 6 via a charter flight, Hussey was transported from Delhi to Chennai where he stayed while recovering from the virus.

“Furiosa,â€. the Anya Taylor-Joy-starring prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Roadâ€. is to receive financial incentives from federal and state governments, ensuring that production will take place in Australia. The George Miller-directed picture will shoot from June.
“The support of the Federal and New South Wales Governments were pivotal. They made it possible for the film to be greenlit, shot in Australia and for the production to be based in our home state,â€. Miller said in a statement on Monday.
“This is great news for New South Wales,â€. said state premier Glady Berejiklian in the same statement “It is expected to become the biggest film ever to be made in Australia.â€.
Despite a currency that is strengthening against the U.S. dollar, Australia is already enjoying a post-covid film and TV production boom, helped by aggressive government financing schemes, a disease that is largely in abeyance.

Melbourne, Dec 30 (Ians) The Indian and Australian teams will stay in Melbourne for a few more days and proceed to Sydney only a few days before the third Test match that will begin at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 7, Cricket Australia's Interim CEO Nick Hockley said.
On Tuesday, Cricket Australia had announced that the third Test will be played in Sydney as scheduled after days of speculation that it could be moved to Melbourne following a rise in Covid-19 cases in the state of New South Wales (Nsw), where the city is located.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG) curator had, meanwhile, begun preparing a pitch next to the one where the second Test was played as standby.
"Last night's announcement was that we are proceeding to Sydney and we are putting our plans in place to do that safely. The players will be in Melbourne for a few more days training there,...

Sydney, Dec 20 (Ians) The third and the fourth Test of the ongoing series between Australia and India, currently scheduled to be played in Sydney and Brisbane next month, could be switched following a new Covid-19 cluster in Sydney.
According to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia are mulling over the idea of taking the third Test to The Gabba and switching the fourth match of the series to the Sydney Cricket Ground. According to the cricket board, the leading option was still to play third Test in Sydney but if not, the third match could be played in Brisbane from January 7-11 and the fourth one could be played in Sydney from January 15-19, the report further said.
The plan of holding the third Test in Brisbane has surfaced as it would allow the Australian and Indian teams, and television broadcast crews, to cross borders more easily.

Australia is to formally close the state border between New South Wales and Victoria in response to a growing resurgence of the coronavirus. The move shuts down all travel between Sydney and Melbourne, the two largest hubs of the Australian film and TV industry.
The move was announced Monday afternoon and will take effect from 23.59 local time on Tuesday. It was a decision taken jointly by Victoria state Premier Daniel Andrews, Nsw Premier Gladys Berejiklian and federal prime minister Scott Morrison.
In the last few days Melbourne has seen a dangerous flare up of coronavirus cases. On Monday, Victoria announced 127 new confirmed cases and one new coronavirus death. The army has been drafted in to help Victoria ramp up to daily testing of 20,000.
Residents of 36 hotspot suburbs of Melbourne were last week put into a local lockdown, though they can leave home for work, exercise, care and grocery shopping. Over the weekend,...

Head of Screen Nsw Grainne Brunsdon today listed numerous ways in which the agency is helping producers to get back to business through and after the pandemic.
Illustrating the Nsw screen industry’s plight, she said its survey, which had more than 600 responses, revealed screen businesses estimated that, collectively, they would lose more than $50 million through September.
Less than 3 per cent of businesses reported there had been no change to their situation while multiple freelancers said they expected their income to each drop by $40,000 in that period.
“It’s a scene of devastation,” she told Screen Producers Australia CEO Matt Deaner in a webinar, indicating she would report the survey’s findings to the Nsw government.
The agency is preparing its budget which will run from July 1 until the end of December. The government will set out its 2021 allocation in the October budget.

Distributor Forum Films has signed a first-look deal with Temple, the Sydney-based production company headed by Anupam Sharma.
The first two projects confirmed for distribution include Melbourne-based thriller Honour, which looks at the issue of dowry deaths and domestic violence within the newly arrived Indian bride community in Australia, and feature documentary Bollywood Downunder, which is a musical and tongue-in-cheek look at Australia’s links with Bollywood.
Both projects are directed by Sharma and were announced in Mumbai last year at a ceremony hosted by Nsw Premier Gladys Berejiklan as part of Aacta’s Asia International Engagement Program.
Other projects in the deal include Bill Bennett thriller Defiant, and Grant Scicluna’s Chantou. Forum will release the films across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Sharma said: “The distribution and production space has changed dramatically particularly in relation to diverse Australian content, which has historically struggled for theatre space.

The strong festival culture of New South Wales, Australia is lauded by many music fans; lawmakers, though, see it as a danger. Following a string of deaths at local music festivals, several of which involved young people and have been attributed to drug overdoses, the government announced new rules requiring festivals to apply for licenses and meet strict safety standards — which festival organizers are now protesting as a “real threat” to the music scene.
