Michael Lerner, the busy Oscar-nominated character actor who had memorable turns as bombastic types in Barton Fink, Harlem Nights, Eight Men Out and so much more, has died. He was 81.
Lerner died Saturday night, according to an Instagram post from his nephew, Sam Lerner, who is also an actor (ABC’s The Goldbergs). The cause of death was not immediately known.
“It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was, and how influential he was to me,” Sam wrote. “His stories always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting. He was the coolest, most confident, talented guy, and the fact that he was my blood will always make me feel special. Everyone that knows him knows how insane he was — in the best way.”

Bill Clinton may have been the Man From Hope, but Joe Biden believes in Believe.
He and First Lady Jill Biden will welcome Jason Sudeikis and other members of the “Ted Lasso” cast for a photo op to stress “the importance of mental health to promote overall wellbeing,” according to a statement from Apple TV+. The news was broken via Twitter by the President himself. The Biden administration cites the increase in funding for mental health programs, and advanced training amongst first responders as one of its wins.

Apple’s statement continued “‘Ted Lasso’ has inspired the world through its universal themes around optimism, kindness, and determination and the Lasso philosophy to ‘believe.’”
Rarely does a new season on television warrant a visit to the White House (I don’t recall Starsky or Hutch sitting in the Oval Office with President Ford) but “Ted Lasso,...

Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" has remained a pop culture watermark since it blasted its way onto screens in 1992. At its core, the deconstructed crime film is about disguise and betrayal. Tim Roth's undercover cop Freddy Newandyke is pretending to be a gangster, but in a sense, all of the characters are in disguise.
The monikers they take on are supposed to protect their true identity just in case any backstabbing goes on or the police nab some of them during the jewelry heist. But those fake names are also giving them permission to play pretend, just like a group of kids playing dress up. In the planning stage, all the characters are playing their parts; when the plan fails, their personas give them a reason to become more extreme versions of themselves.
In flashbacks, we see Freddy construct his criminal self in order to infiltrate the group, suggesting...

“Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and me—as a couple of old farts solving piddly-ass crimes at the assisted living facility where we would now live? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?”
The tweet received a whopping 34k likes, with some big names showing allegiance. One of those names was “Wonder Woman” actress Lynda Carter, who responded, “I’d watch this.”
I’d watch this.

David Soul, who played Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson on the classic cop show “Starsky & Hutch” from 1975 to 1989, wants to be part of the reboot of the series that’s in the works at Fox. And he thinks his original partner, Starsky, played by Paul Michael Glaser should come along for the ride.
“Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and me — as a couple of old farts solving piddly-a— crimes at the assisted living facility where we would now live? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
The reboot he’s referencing is the one ordered by Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn, which, according to THR, would focus on two female detectives called Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson who solve crimes while trying to find out who framed their fathers for a crime they...

Call me cynical, but I’m not 100 percent certain that a group of kids who were only four years old when Whitney Houston released 1998’s My Love Is Your Love (aka the CD that spawned her last couple of iconic singles) would spend two months mourning the late, great diva at their locker-shrines.
That said, sometimes (or all times) one watches Glee, one needs to send one’s inner cynic out for a cocktail (or three), then sit back and enjoy the show. Which is exactly the approach I took to this week’s “Dance With Somebody,” a festive hour...
