It's a happy day in Colombia. Representing the South American country, Paulina Vega beat 87 other contestants from around the world to be crowned the 36th annual Miss Universe Sunday night in Doral, Florida. Although only Miss Universe for a day so far, Vega is already taking her role seriously. "When we participate in a pageant we are examples to young and teenage girls," she tells People. "It's very delicate." "I want to demonstrate that it is not the most important thing to be beautiful and have a glamorous life. It's about feeling beautiful. Become an intelligent, professional, hardworking woman with a great heart.

A new Miss Universe has been crowned. Contestants from over 80 countries competed in the pageant on Sunday, with 22-year-old Paulina Vega of Colombia coming out on top. The stunning contestant beat out Miss USA Nia Sanchez, who was named first runner-up. Paulina is currently a student majoring in business administration and is relatively new to pageants. Her win continues the legacy of Latina women earning the crown, as the winner of last year's pageant, Gabriela Isler, is from Venezuela. Although this year's pageant was not without controversy - Miss Israel was criticized when she shared a photo with Miss Lebanon - Sunday's pageant in Miami went off without a hitch.

There are no hard feelings between Erin Brady and Gabriela Isler, even though the latter won the title of Miss Universe 2013. In fact, Miss USA and the newly crowned Isler are such good friends that they now live together.
According to Isler, the pair moved in together when she moved to New York City. "[Being Miss Universe is] very overwhelming. There have been a lot of changes in my life this year. Not only becoming Miss Universe but also in my personal life. It's a big change to move to the big city -- the city that never sleeps. I have a new life -- a new apartment -- a new roommate. It's a big experience," Isler admits to TheMainEdge.com.
When asked if there is a rule dictating Miss Universe have a roommate, she answers, "I don't know if it's a rule, but I do have a roommate. It's Miss USA, Erin Brady.
