The 2023 New York Comic Con may be moving forward without any big-name actors, but it’s still got plenty of television panels (and a scattering of film panels) planned over the course of the four-day event. Nycc kicks off on October 12th at Javits Center, with the first day’s lineup confirmed to include a preview of The Strangers Trilogy, creatives from Futurama, details on For All Mankind season four, and the season one finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Nycc continues on Friday, October 13th with Apple TV+’s upcoming epic dive into Legendary’s Monsterverse – Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Friday panels also include Archer, Evil, Goosebumps, Chucky, and a spotlight on horrormeister John Carpenter.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Krapopolis, Ghosts of Ruin, and Matthew Vaughn host panels on Saturday,...

It was heartbreaking when the copyright dispute between original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller came up and brought any further development of the extremely cool Friday the 13th video game to a screeching halt. Now here’s another franchise video game heartbreaker: the folks at Saber Interactive have announced that they won’t be developing any new content for Evil Dead: The Game, and plans to bring the game to Nintendo Switch have been abandoned.
Here’s the announcement:

No information was given on exactly why Saber had decided to set aside any further development of the game. It would be odd if there are licensing issues, because the rights to the overall Evil Dead franchise seem to be rather clear cut: they’re owned by franchise creator Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell.

Football is life for David Beckham in the trailer for his Netflix docuseries (premiering Wednesday, Oct. 4).
Beckham chronicles the football star’s “humble working-class beginnings in east London, his drive and determination to win, and the battle to find balance between ambition, love and family,” reads the official description. A story of “immense ups and downs,” the four-part series “builds a surprising, personal and definitive story of one of the most recognizable and scrutinized athletes of all time.”

Amongst a typically raucous lineup at this year’s Venice Film Festival comes Evil Does Not Exist, a work in which tensions rise over little more than the placement of a septic tank. It’s the latest from director Ryusuke Hamaguchi and his first since 2021’s miraculous double-punch of Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy and Drive My Car. Evil concerns a clash of urban and rural sensibilities: a story about a small but hardy group of people who wish to stop the development of a glamping site. Devotees of Kelly Reichardt’s sylvan melancholies will feel perfectly at home.
A quiet, funny, confounding mystery, Evil plays out amongst the forests and streams of a remote village close to Tokyo. Tensions are raised when two representatives for the glamping company, Takahashi (Ryuji Kosaka) and Mayuzumi (Ayaka Shibutani), arrive to talk things over. The locals, in particular a man named Takumi, voice...

It's been a while since season 6 of "Rick and Morty" concluded, and a lot has happened in the meantime. Most notably, news came out that the show's co-creator and most prominent voice actor, Justin Roiland, had been charged with domestic battery and false imprisonment in May 2020. Since then, there have been a number of other sexual assault allegations made against Roiland, as well as news that he was involved in a settled sexual harassment lawsuit back in 2019. In the end, Roiland was removed from both the cast and creative team, with Adult Swim announcing that his characters would be replaced with soundalike voice actors.
Outside of Roiland's absence, there are plenty of other concerns and questions "Rick and Morty" fans have had over the past year. How will the show deal with this new evil Rick? Is the show really going to embrace a serialized structure, as Rick's final monologue implied?...

For decades, Disney CEO Bob Iger has been a revered media titan, beloved by both employees and Wall Street — a rare feat and tricky balancing act.
That’s what made it so surprising to the creative community when the usually friendly and disciplined Iger, fresh off his private jet at Sun Valley, chose a setting known as “summer camp for billionaires” to castigate writers and actors for their “very disturbing” strike and economic expectations that are “just not realistic,” adding that Hollywood has been “a great business for all of these people.” SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher joined voices across entertainment in calling Iger’s comments “tone deaf” and, well, rich for someone who reportedly makes more than 500 times the median salary of Disney employees.
Why the sudden about-face by Mr.

This is a big year for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not only is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem releasing in cinemas in August, but March also marks the 30th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Considered to be one of the worst depictions of the martial artist amphibians onscreen, and a lacking successor to its two previous live-action hits, the New Line Cinema release marked the end of a largely successful franchise that began with Jim Henson. But the mutant mania didn’t have to end there. In fact, it almost didn’t.
Many people aren’t aware that a fourth instalment to the series almost came to fruition. The canceled project won’t ever see the light of day, but modern fans who’ve since witnessed many animated, comic book, and even Michael Bay-produced CGI versions of the character, will surely be intrigued by what could’ve been.
