The second half of the British Emmys — the BAFTA TV Awards — are about to kick off. The first segment took place at the end of April when the BAFTA TV Craft Awards gave out gongs for below-the-line artists nominated for their work in this year’s best TV shows. Now, the main ceremony is taking place. This one is where all the big stars rock up as the acting categories are presented tonight in what is a live, televised ceremony broadcast from the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank.
The stars are decorating the red carpet thickly and fastly while the sweat drips from the brows of our journalists just as thick and fast. It’s sweltering here in London. Props, then, must go to “The Hobbit” star Richard Armitage, who dons a pink velvet suit jacket. Velvet is a brave choice in such hot weather but he looks dashing as anything.

The BBC has bowed to a torrent of pressure from Jewish staffers and groups by cutting scenes of an Apprentice contestant from the You’re Fired companion show following antisemitic tweets.
Controversial contestant Dr Asif Munaf’s scenes are understood to have been recorded over the weekend but will not be shown on the upcoming companion show.
BBC staffers are said to have been “shocked” by the decision to have filmed the scenes. A Telegraph report last month revealed that Munaf had been given diversity training after making antisemitic posts on social media including writing that Zionists are a “godless satanic cult” and references to the “trial of the zionist antichrist.”
At the time, a BBC source told The Telegraph, “had this content been posted before filming took place, Asif would not have been included in the show.”

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.

Early in the pandemic, satirical comedy duo Chad Kroeger and Jt Parr took to the streets in one of Southern California’s most mandate-averse coastal communities, Huntington Beach, to hand out masks.
With their disarming surfer bro vernacular and a faux-naivety about a “mask shortage,” they attempted to deliver free face coverings to a variety of boardwalk denizens — each of them turning the guys away, citing medical misinformation, religious zealotry and other QAnon-approved rhetoric. They racked up 2.2 million views and countless pick-up, and it was hardly their first brush with viral fame. Their appearances at various SoCal city council meetings are the stuff of local legend. They even tricked Fox News into booking them for an interview. And, come Aug. 23, their unique brand of activism and comedy gets its own Netflix series: Chad and Jt Go Deep.
The streamer dubs the show a “raunchy prank comedy.

Exclusive: Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the comedy duo behind series such as The Eric Andre Show and Showtime’s Moonbase 8, have set a new comedy series featuring a pair of viral pranksters at Netflix.
The streamer has ordered Chad & Jt Go Deep, a series that features Chad Kroeger (aka Tom Allen rather than the Nickelback frontman) and Jt Parr, who are best known for a viral video that saw them handing out masks during the peak of the pandemic in Huntingdon Beach (see below).
The series, which launches on August 23, sees the self-described “stoke lords” take their activism to the streets of Southern California to spread awareness on important issues. But when one of their causes accidentally leads to their cancellation, they use their activism to win back the good graces and trust of the culture.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) managed to stage its glitzy Film Awards in February at the Royal Albert Hall with legions of celebrities just before the coronavirus lockdown, but its Television Awards on Friday will be a very different affair.

Even if it’s not possible for all the nominees and the TV industry to gather in person on the night, BAFTA chair Krishnendu Majumdar — who took over in June from producer Pippa Harris — says it’s important for BAFTA to “celebrate the brilliance and the importance of television” during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.
The co-founder of Me+You Productions, Majumdar is currently producing a new series of Dominic Savage’s drama anthology, “I Am,” starring Suranne Jones and Ashley Walters,...
