There were supposed to be 10 pairs of loved ones competing on this season’s Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water (which debuts Sept. 24 on CBS). But then, just days before filming began in Nicaragua, one of the couples was forced to bow out after a last minute-medical check turned up something that gave the Survivor medics pause. The same thing actually happened during the last Blood vs. Water season when Rc Saint-Amour and her father had to drop out while on location due to medical reasons involving the dad. In that instance, Candice and John Cody were...

[Spoiler Alert: Read on only if you have already watched Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water.]
Water finally won. Survivor history was made tonight as we had our very first instance of a player voting out a loved one when Ciera joined the majority to boot her mom Laura off the tribe and to Redemption Island, where she will do battle against Tina and Vytas to stay in the game. Tina and Vytas both defeated Aras in tonight’s duel — which involved retrieving balls with a grappling hook and then using one of the balls to navigate a table maze — meaning Aras was eliminated. [Update: Dalton's full recap is now live!] A few other notable moments from tonight’s episode:
• The clue actually survived!

Rupert Boneham is one of Survivor's most iconic characters. When he returned for Survivor: Blood vs. Water, he competed with his wife, Laura. But it fell apart two minutes into the game. Laura, 44, was immediately voted out of her tribe. Rupert chose to take her place on Redemption Island. After losing the first challenge, he finished the game in last place. Laura managed to last longer than anyone expected, until she was blindsided by her tribe, sent to Redemption Island on Day 18, and left for good the next day. She talks to People about her game - and emerging from her husband's shadow.

On paper, John Cody is the type of contestant who should do well on Survivor. Athletic, attractive and affable, the 30-year-old doctor from Washington DC seemed primed to go the distance. But things went awry 30 seconds into the game when his wife, Candice, was voted out of her tribe. As she dominated challenges on Redemption Island, he became a bigger target. After being blindsided on Day 8, he lasted 11 more days on Redemption Island until he lost a challenge and was eliminated from the game. He talks to People about his game, his socks, and crying in his underwear on national TV.

Wednesday night's Survivor: Blood vs. Water saw two players exit the game after coming up short at their Redemption Island duel. One player, Laura Boneham, had just arrived at Redemption, while the other player, John Cody, had spent nearly two weeks surviving challenges in the hopes of re-entering the game. We catch up with the 30-year-old physician to find out how difficult it was to go home after hanging on so long, and how it compared to his West Point military training.
ETonline: How hard was it for you [to go home after being on Redemption for so long]?
John: I don't know if you could tell by my body language, but I was a touch frustrated after that challenge last night! But you know, it's all part of the game, and I felt like I gave it my all every single challenge. I wish there was a different challenge to get back in the game because [that challenge is] definitely geared toward a particular type of body style that is...

John Cody lasted a long time on "Survivor's" Redemption Island this season, just missing re-entering the game at the merge when he lost the final duel. He tells Zap2it that it was frustrating to be faced with a challenge that clearly did not favor him.
Are you glad you did "Survivor"? Was it everything you hoped it would be?
"It wasn't everything I hoped it would be because I hoped to be sitting at the end and pleading my case at the final tribal council, but I'm definitely glad that I did it. It was an awesome experience, a great opportunity. And even though things didn't work out the way I hoped, it still was incredible."
You lasted so long on Redemption Island, how frustrating was it to lose to someone who had not been there very long?
"Well, that was frustrating, definitely. But it wasn't like Laura M. had just shown up,...

It was double trouble last night on Survivor: Blood vs. Water as two people were eliminated from the game when they lost the final pre-merge duel at Redemption Island. But was that final duel — in which the contestants had to put their feet in tiny footholds while hanging onto a pole to support all their weight for as long as possible — fair? We asked the eliminated man with the size 12-and-a-half feet — John Cody — his thoughts when he called into Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105), and now you can hear the entire thing on the InsideTV Podcast.

Two people were eliminated from the game. Another was voted out of the tribe. Another was let back into the game. And there was also a merge. So, yeah, a mildly busy episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water this evening. My full recap will be up at midnight, but here is all the pertinent info:
• Laura Morett won the final pre-merge Redemption Island duel, earning her way back into the game after she hung on to a big pole the longest. John Cody and Lauren Boneham were both eliminated when they lost. Later, skaters!

He formed a power alliance right out of the gate, but then broke up that power alliance and subsequently got powered right out of the game. However, Survivor Blood vs. Water’s Brad Culpepper insists there is another level to his strategy that people are not seeing, and that all of his actions were not to benefit him, but rather his wife Monica’s game. The ousted contestant called into Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) to discuss his controversial run on the reality program — a run that saw one person curse him out, another flip him off, and another stage...

Candice Cody never even got a chance to be on a tribe, but she still made an impact on Survivor: Blood vs. Water. After being voted out on day one, the three-time competitor landed on Redemption Island, where week after week she dominated the duels -- and also began calling out Brad Culpepper for what she perceived as his backstabbing and deceit. In last week's episode, she was joined at Redemption Island by husband John Cody and then Brad in this week's installment. But her time on Survivor came to an end in Wednesday night's episode as Candice was defeated
