[This story contains major spoilers from the series finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “No Lessons Learned.”]
And, that’s a wrap on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The series finale of the Emmy-winning HBO improv comedy kicked off with a big circle back to how the final season began, with the ensemble heading to Atlanta to support Larry David (played by series creator-star David) in his trial.
For a refresher: Season 12 opened with Larry getting arrested for violating a 2021 voting law in Georgia when he gave Leon Black’s (Jb Smoove) Auntie Rae (played by Ellia English) a glass of water while she was waiting in line to vote. Larry didn’t know about the law, but he became a liberal hero anyway, with the likes of Stacey Abrams, Bruce Springsteen and Sienna Miller becoming his adoring new fans.
An unfortunate issue with a replacement lawn jockey, however, led to Larry pleading not guilty to obstructing the election process...

It’s no secret that Real Time host Bill Maher enjoys a toke now and then. He was the cover boy for L.A. Magazine’s recent 420 issue, and brings the habit up frequently on the show.
But that mellow side of him disguises the pitbull that has his favorite targets and topics to attack. This week’s show was a cornucopia of his usual suspects, including kids with phones, the woke agenda, and why Joe Biden is floundering.
This week’s panel discussion included Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Gps and author of Age of Revolutions: Progress and Backlash from 1600 to the Present, and Dr. Mark T. Esper, former U.S. Secretary of Defense under President Trump and author of the memoir A Sacred Oath: Memoirs of a Secretary of Defense During Extraordinary Times.

Larry David has found another adversary.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and star gets into it with Hymnson Chan in a two-episode arc.
Chan, whose character works in a Chinese restaurant, appears in the fifth and sixth episode of the final season of the HBO comedy.
Chan won a SAG Awards for his stunt work in Avengers: Endgame and has appeared in series such as I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Grey’s Anatomy, Kidding, Shameless, Key & Peele and Jane The Virgin. He also recurred in Syfy’s Underlying.
Chan is David’s latest nemesis in the final season of Curb; Sharlto Copley played Michael Fouchay, a South African businessman who questions David’s cordiality, and Coda’s Troy Kotsur plays himself who gets into an argument on the golf course with Larry.
Other guest stars this season include Sienna Miller, Lionel Boyce, Stacey Abrams, Bruce Springsteen, Saverio Guerra...

[This story contains spoilers from the second episode of season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “The Lawn Jockey.”]
When Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David gave Auntie Rae (played by Ellia English) a glass of water while she was waiting in line to vote, the TV character (played by David) didn’t know there was a Georgia law against doing so. Which means he didn’t intend to be hailed as a local hero or become a “liberal darling” — or get praised by the likes of Stacey Abrams and Bruce Springsteen on national news.
But that’s exactly what happened in the second episode of season 12 — Curb’s final season — which picked back up in Atlanta after the season premiere ended with Larry’s arrest (and a mugshot that bore similarities to former President Donald Trump’s 2023 Georgia arrest photo).

Many actors have several key roles in their careers, but Erika Alexander is one of the rare ones who’s had the role of a lifetime. Thirty years ago, she stepped into the character of Maxine Shaw on Living Single — a now-iconic attorney character inspired by her role models Cicely Tyson, Phylicia Rashad, Whoopi Goldberg and Hillary Clinton. In the years since, she’s been part of significant projects like Get Out and Wu-Tang: An American Saga. But American Fiction, she says, is the crown jewel of her portfolio.
“It’s been very healing to be in this movie,” says Alexander, 54. She plays Coraline, a divorcée who begins a relationship with Jeffrey Wright’s Monk, a novelist so frustrated with the publishing industry’s penchant for stereotypically “Black” books, he submits an absurdist manuscript to prove a point. “We’ve been having conversations like those in the movie for a long time,...

After teasing a collab with the expelled congressman, comedian and celebrity interviewer Ziwe released her sit-down interview with Santos on YouTube on Monday morning.
Ziwe’s “Znn” interview, a CNN spoof with her own Ziwe News Network, began with onscreen text saying “No congressman were paid in the making of this interview even though George asked three times.” She then listed civil rights icons and asked Santos to say what they meant to him. The list included Marsha P. Johnson, James Baldwin, Harvey Milk and Bowen Yang’s “SNL” impression of Santos — which he said deserves an Egot.
When asked if he would want Yang to play him in HBO’s movie about him, Santos said “that movie is not ever going to happen. That book has no perspective of me or anybody close to me. It’s fucking fiction,” referring...

In a clip from the documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything, we hear the young entertainer singing an early version of what would become his signature tune, “Tutti Frutti.” But surprise! The original lyrics were different than the ones we know today: “Tutti frutti, good booty/Tutti frutti, good booty!”
The song, as Richard wrote it, was about gay sex. In 1955, it would become the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s breakthrough hit, catapulting him to mainstream stardom — but only after the words were revised to something much more benign: “Tutti frutti, oh rooty/Tutti frutti, oh rooty!”
The sanitized lyrics symbolize the deep conflict between Little Richard’s public persona and his private life, and how he could hit the stage in all his authentic glory, then do an about-face when the spotlight became too white-hot and too controversial — especially in the deep South, at a time when the definition...

Long before Team Bill and Team Eric on "True Blood" or Team Jacob and Team Edward in "Twilight," TV fans could really get impassioned over their choice of Team Angel (David Boreanaz) or Team Spike (James Marsters) on "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer." Everybody just wanted the best romance for Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who had to juggle all of the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood with being the chosen one to save Sunnydale from the Hellmouth. Fans can still get heated these days while defending their favorite love interest, which is how politician and romance author Stacey Abrams ended up discussing her Buffy beau picks on Twitter in 2020, and got quite a few people talking about their personal faves. The chatter included series showrunner Joss Whedon and actor Alyson Hannigan, and the latter offered up her own option: her character Willow should have dated Buffy!

It wasn’t the Oscars, but close. On Sept. 25, 2021, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences christened its $484 million Renzo Piano-designed movie museum with a starry gala. That night, Annette Bening, Tom Hanks and Bob Iger received Pillar Awards, recognizing their efforts leading the capital campaign to complete the long-gestating project. The scene represented a moment of true unity for Hollywood and the city of Los Angeles that, at long last, had a new landmark to brag about.
Less than two years later, that communal pride has given way to deep fractures across an industry at a standstill amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. As the battle rages, Bening is back in the lights with a new mission.

In the Aughts, Killer Mike was a fiery maelstrom, the South’s answer to Ice Cube, and an Atlanta polemicist comfortable with both dope-boy fantasies and bruising Black politics. But it’s been eleven years since R.A.P. Music, a classic pairing with rapper/producer El-p that inspired the two to form the world-conquering duo Run the Jewels. On his sixth album, Michael, the rapper focuses on his personal life, particularly his late mother and grandmother, with uncharacteristic empathy and restraint, even as he continues to utilize his uniquely brusque vocal style.

That, or whatever the Federation’s recruiting slogan would be, is something you’ll hear over the next couple of years, as Paramount+ has given a series order to a new live-action show, “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” the streamer announced today just two days after confirming multi-season orders for “Strange New Worlds” and “Lower Decks.”
Paramount+ will not confirm this to be the case, but the “Starfleet Academy” series is likely a spinoff of “Star Trek: Discovery,” which will conclude in early 2024 with its fifth and final season. The speculation then is that it would be set in that show’s 32nd-century timeline. A Season 4 plotline on “Discovery,” in which Mary Wiseman’s Ensign Tilly served as the in-the-field instructor for a group of Academy cadets before leaving the show altogether to continue being their teacher, feels like a backdoor pilot.

Lisa Cortés’ “Little Richard: I Am Everything” makes clear the complications within the life of Little Richard. Here was a queer Black man from Macon, Georgia who was a proudly flamboyant and irresistibly charming ball of energy that combusted into rock and roll. The cultural touchstones of the man born Richard Wayne Penniman are so resonant we know “Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Lucille,” and more not as songs, but as the lexicon of ourselves. And yet, how could a man who dressed with wild openness — his glittering jumpsuit, a swooshing hairstyle, caked on makeup — appear so lost within himself?
In “Little Richard: I Am Everything,” Cortés aims to answer that question. Unlike her previous film, the Stacey Abrams-centered “All In: The Fight for Democracy” (co-directed by Liz Garbus), her swing at Richard’s life and career never manages to separate the man himself from his own mythmaking.

Updated: The Georgia Supreme Court revived the state’s restrictive abortion law Wednesday, again banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, at least temporarily.
In its ruling, the high court put a lower court order that declared the ban unlawful on hold while the case is appealed, requiring abortion providers to again stop performing the procedure past six weeks into the pregnancy.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled on November 15 the six-week ban was unlawful because it was enacted in 2019, when abortion was still legal nationwide under Roe v. Wade.
Georgia’s ban took effect in July, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Abortion rights advocates and physicians sued to overturn the law in July after a federal appeals court allowed it to take effect, arguing that the law was unconstitutional.

Barack Obama will appear as a guest on the Nov. 17 episode of “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” Variety has learned exclusively. The episode airs on Comedy Central at 11 p.m.
In conversation with Noah, the former president will discuss the Obama Foundation Democracy Forum and critical issues facing America and the world today. The interview will be Obama’s third with Noah, and his first in-studio. He previously appeared in a 2020 virtually taped episode, and did one of his final interviews as president with Noah at the White House.
The interview comes the week after the midterm elections that won the Republican party control of the House of Representatives — ending two years headed by the Democrats — and just days after Obama’s successor, the twice impeached Donald Trump, announced his bid to return to the White House in 2024.

On Tuesday, Kerry Washington joined Vice President Kamala Harris and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rep. Karen Bass for a meet-and-greet at a breakfast spot on Pico Boulevard, encouraging maximum civic participation on Election Day. But just before this, the actress and activist completed a three-day, four-state trip that she has termed the “S.O.S. Though Washington has been a surrogate for candidates for years, this election season she wanted to focus her efforts on showing up in battleground states for the midterm elections to raise awareness about the importance of secretary of state races (hence the “S.O.S.”) and the impact of local elections, as opposed to parachuting in every four years during the presidential voting cycle.

Razor-thin margins around the country left control of Congress undetermined Wednesday, but Democrats showed surprising strength in the midterm election, topping Republicans in a series of competitive races and defying expectations that high inflation and President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings would drag his party to key defeats.
In the most heartening news for Democrats, John Fetterman flipped Pennsylvania’s Republican-controlled Senate seat that’s key to the party’s hopes of maintaining control of the chamber. But Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin won reelection, raising the stakes of races in Nevada, Georgia and Arizona that were too early to call but could determine the majority.
In the House, Democrats kept seats in districts from Virginia to Kansas to Rhode Island, while many districts in states like New York and California had not been called.

Oprah Winfrey refused to endorse Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Pennsylvania Senate race and instead said she supported Democratic nominee John Fetterman.
Winfrey helped launch Oz’s talk show after he appeared numerous times on her program.
Winfrey named several important midterm elections during a virtual event to encourage her fans to vote this past Thursday. She reportedly said, “If I were in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman, for many reasons.”
She also rattled off several progressive politicians who are either running for Senate or seeking to protect their Senate seats in traditionally-Republican states.

Angelina Jolie is one proud Spelman College mom. The 47-year-old actor and activist spent homecoming weekend at the Hbcu in Atlanta with her eldest daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, who enrolled there as a freshman this fall. The mother-daughter duo were spotted walking around campus together enjoying various tailgate events and festivities - Jolie in an all-black outfit, a camel coat, and sunglasses and Zahara in a white top, jeans, and boots - and stopped to take photos with several students and alumni.
Twitter user @coco_michelle__ shared a picture of herself posing with the smiling pair on Oct. 22, writing, "Angelina Jolie just casually walking around with her daughter at Spelman during Homecoming." They were also seen showing support for Georgia democratic candidates Sen. Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams - the latter of whom is a Spelman grad - by holding signs with their names at an outdoor event on campus. Another fan,...

Jameela Jamil stopped by “The View” on Wednesday, and had some blunt predictions for the country if a federal abortion ban were to pass. The actress cautioned that, if it happens, “our whole society is gonna collapse.”
Jamil — who was on the show in support of her new series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” — has been a vocal supporter of abortion rights, having previously opened up about her own abortion (and doing so again on Wednesday). So, when Joy Behar asked for her thoughts on Sen. Lindsey Graham proposing a federal abortion ban this week, Jamil laid them out clearly, noting that she’s “horrified” by the idea.
“Our whole society is gonna collapse if this happens,” she said. “If we force millions more people into a world where we have no baby formula, not enough access to healthcare, not enough access to education, not enough access to shelter — the cost of living crisis,...
