Mackenzie Lansing found her death scene in 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' "liberating".The actress played the role of female tribute Coral in the dystopian prequel but met her end after being engulfed by mutant snakes and found it freeing as she had complete control over the scene. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Mackenzie said: "I've been on other sets before where you're wearing a suit with dots. I did a movie also called 'The Creator', where I was attacked by a robot, and so there's a guy in a blue suit. What was really special about this is there was nothing, and you can think that that's kind of terrifying, but actually it was the most liberating experience as an actor because there were no instructions."I got to decide how quickly the snakes move. Every actor got to decide how they're responding to the poison,...

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast!
I am Valerie Complex, associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Today, I’m chatting with actress Mackenzie Lansing, who stars as Coral, the District Four tribute in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
The film takes place years before Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) would become the tyrannical President of Panem, when the 18-year-old is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a postwar Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.
Lansing is a French-American actress and writer based in New York and LA. She grew up in France and the Democratic Republic of Congo before moving to the U.S. to pursue acting. She started...

This post contains spoilers for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."
At the risk of sounding as insensitive as Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman canceling dinner plans while kids get slaughtered, I really missed The Hunger Games. "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" marks an on-screen return to the world of Panem for the first time since 2015, and the creativity and tension of author Suzanne Collins' dystopic world remains undeniable. This time around, though, the drama takes place roughly six decades before Katniss Everdeen's name got called for the fateful 74th games.
As such, the extravagant, over-the-top culture of the Capitol is still developing, but the city from which future President Snow (Tom Blyth) hails is already clearly a breeding ground for all things over-the-top and bourgeoisie. In the prequel story, The Hunger Games themselves are still in early stages, and haven't yet developed into the combination fashion show...

It would’ve been so easy, and likely lucrative, for Lionsgate to craft a prequel to The Hunger Games that just let newcomer Tom Blyth, as young Coriolanus Snow, smolder his way through a forbidden romance with Rachel Zegler’s District 12 songstress Lucy Gray for two hours and call it a day. But nothing about Francis Lawrence’s The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is easy. Channeling Adam Driver more often than Donald Sutherland, Blyth’s version of Snow is a towering, asexual vulture of desperate ambitions, stemming from the character’s family flirting with complete bankruptcy and his education at a fascist prep school where graduation is dependent on what boils down to a school-wide game of Who Wants to Be a Eugenicist.
The school’s opioid-addicted headmaster, Casca Highbottom (Peter Dinklage), announces that graduation is dependent on mentoring a Hunger Games tribute in the fine art of public relations.

Director Francis Lawrence says that early on in the process of bringing The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes to life he spoke with author Suzanne Collins about the music. Collins told him music’s an important element to this prequel and that the songs were inspired by Scottish, English, and Irish ballads. Lionsgate’s new behind the scenes featurette focuses on the music and features never-before-released clips from the film, including scenes of Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) performing on stage.
The new video also includes interviews with Lawrence, producer Nina Jacobson, and executive music producer Dave Cobb who worked closely with author Collins to capture her vision.

"How did we survive?" "A little bit of luck... A 'lotta bit of grace." S&r Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Allswell in New York, which initially premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. It won Best Screenplay at the fest back then, and it also just played at the New Hampshire Film Festival this fall. Allswell in New York follows the story of three Puerto Rican sisters in New York who are navigating life's challenges of single motherhood, career, and family, while finding the humor, solace, and bonds of sisterhood make it all bearable. This Latinx dramedy stars Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Daphne Rubin-Vega (In The Heights), and the talented Bobby Cannavale, along with Max Casella, Michael Rispoli, Felix Solis, and Mackenzie Lansing. This looks wholesome and authentic, telling stories about life in NYC that we don't often hear.

Just because Katniss Everdeen led a revolution to end the Hunger Games, doesn't mean that our time in the dystopia of Panem is over. Following the massive success of Suzanne Collins' YA novel adaptations, it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate seized an opportunity to get the blockbuster franchise up and running again. Thanks to Collins penning a prequel novel, we now expect to return to Panem in 2023, this time for the 10th annual Hunger Games. With the film still in production, it'll be a while before we anything beyond a brief teaser — but there's always the promise of behind-the-scenes treats! This time around, our latest look at the film comes courtesy of the newest Panem heroine herself, Rachel Zegler.

Josh Andrés Rivera will be returning to work with his West Side Story star Rachel Zegler in Lionsgate’s growing ensemble prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The prequel centers around 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who as we know will become the tyrannical President of Panem. He is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler), the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will...

“Allswell” is one of those rare movies that feels less like a cinematic presentation and more like a personal invitation into someone’s home. There’s no pageantry, no fuss; they didn’t even clean the place up for you. You’re going to get to know everyone better, they’re not going to hide their unflattering sides, and by the end you’ll feel peaceful and welcome.
Directed by Ben Snyder, it’s the story of two sisters, Daisy and Ida, and their sister-in-law Serene (Daphne Rubin-Vega). Daisy, about to adopt a child from a young mother who advertised on Craigslist, co-owns a restaurant with no small amount of drama attached. Clinic counselor Ida reconnects with their troubled and dying brother Desmond, and Serene is losing patience with her adult daughter, Connie, who’s working as an erotic model.

Family members come together in the wake of trauma, only to dredge up past wounds as they eventually hope to start fresh. It’s a well-worn trope that’s an indie-film staple because it relies on small casts and limited locations. Such is the case with Ben Snyder’s “Allswell,” in which three sisters (related through blood or marriage) come together when a family member is in trouble. Soon, the familiar is mired in unrealized character arcs, clunky lines, and
Sisters Daisy (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and Ida (Liza Colón-Zayas), along with their sister-in-law Serene (Daphne Rubin-Vega) all have their own troubles. After years of struggling with IVF, Daisy hopes her baby dreams will come true after taking in a pregnant girl named Nina (Mackenzie Lansing) she met on Craigslist. Ida, the fixer of the family, puts her friends first at the expense of her relationship with partner Ray (Michael Rispoli). Serene,...

The final episode of Mare of Easttown limited series drew four million viewers over the holiday weekend across HBO and HBO Max, with nearly three million viewers Sunday night (all platforms), marking a series high for both linear and digital, according to HBO. The finale also set the record as the most watched episode of an Original Series on HBO Max during its first 24 hours of availability, besting the finales of recent hits The Undoing and The Flight Attendant over the same period of time.
Mare of Easttown also joins The Undoing as the only series in HBO’s history to see consecutive growth week-to-week. Viewership still is expected to grow further via additional telecasts and digital viewing.
Created by Brad Ingelsby and directed by Craig Zobel, the seven-part Easttown stars Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder as life crumbles around her.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Mare of Easttown” Episode 7, “Sacrament,” including the ending.]
Two seemingly contradictory elements from the two loosely tied sides of “Mare of Easttown” found harmony in HBO’s buzzy crime drama. The first element is the red herrings, or as my editor begged me not to call them: the red mareings. Creator and writer Brad Inglesby absolutely littered his seven-part limited series with clues, many of which eventually proved misleading, in order to create an addictive whodunit for viewers at home. The second element, which runs very much in opposition to the first, is closure. If the audience feels too jerked around during their extended search for the killer, a murder-mystery is bound to fall apart, no matter how shocking the big reveal.
But the actual case is only one side of “Mare of Easttown,” and leading into the Episode 7 finale, closure had already started for our titular hero’s personal journey toward salvation.

The following contains spoilers for Mare of Easttown through episode 4.
Who killed Erin McMenamin? That’s the question at the center of HBO’s atmospheric crime drama Mare of Easttown…alongside “how does Kate Winslet pull off that Wawa-saturated accent?”
The show offers no shortage of suspects. Seemingly every single character on Mare of Easttown has both cause and some sort of backwards reasoning for killing the innocent young mother played by Cailee Spaeny. Mare’s ex-husband Frank (David Denman) is rumored to have fathered Erin’s son DJ (though that theory is disproven in this week’s episode 4 “Poor Sisyphus”). Erin’s ex-boyfriend Dylan (Jack Mulhern) and his awful new girlfriend Brianna (Mackenzie Lansing) clearly want Erin out of the way. Deacon Mark Burton (James McArdle) has a questionable history at previous Catholic parishes. Then there’s the fact that successful author from out of town Richard Ryan is...
