Following the success of the Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, showrunners Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko created a follow-up series titled The Legend of Korra which is set 70 years after its predecessor. The story follows the central protagonist Korra who is the next Avatar after Aang, and her journey towards conquering the elements.

The series which ran for 4 seasons, was well received for its narrative and character sketches. The show saw various antagonists who challenge Korra in her journey to fulfil her destiny. One of the aspects that stood out was how nuanced these villains were without being mere cardboards figures. The creators credited another animated film produced by Studio Ghibli for inspiring them in this regard.

At the end of “Loki” Season 1, executive producer Kevin R. Wright asked Sophia Di Martino where she saw her character, Sylvie, going after this. After all, Sylvie had just completed her lifelong goal of killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and freeing the multiverse. The actress casually remarked that Sylvie might go grab a burger. “I definitely learned my lesson: Be careful what you say to producers,” Di Martino tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “Even if you’re half-joking, they might end up writing it into the second [season].”
And that they did. The mid-credits scene in the Season 2 premiere reveals Sylvie’s location: She’s in a branched timeline in 1982 Oklahoma working at a McDonald’s. While Sylvie can literally definitely grab a burger and more there, the iconic fast food chain is also symbolic of what she’s now seeking: normalcy and sowing the seeds for a new life.

Loki season 2 ended with a somber but noble end for the God of Mischief. As the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has shown, we have not seen the last of the Tva in the Marvel universe. While that does not necessarily imply a specific return of Loki himself, we may still get more from other characters from the Disney+ series. Recently, it was addressed that Marvel Studios is doing a lot of retooling to reach glory status again. However, their focus seems to have moved from newly established characters like Shang-Chi, but that film’s star, Simu Liu, assures fans that he will make a return.
Another character that’s currently up in the air is Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie from both seasons of Loki. Di Martino recently told ScreenRant what she hopes will be next for her character after season 2, “I think, at this point, if anything comes back...

Remakes have been a part of Hollywood since time immemorial, and even though film enthusiasts are absolutely over it, it doesn’t seem like they are going to stop anytime soon. The fan-favorite The Blair Witch Project is next in line as Lionsgate and Blumhouse are all set to revive the franchise. The 1999 horror film still remains one of the most terrifying films that Hollywood has to offer, and if the remake wants to stand a chance against it, the creators are going to have to give it their all and then some.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Unfortunately, things are already not looking too good for the remake as it has been revealed that the original creators behind The Blair Witch Project are not linked to the remake in any shape or form. In fact, they were not even aware of the project before it was announced at CinemaCon 2024.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, as a franchise, is always deliberate with every decision that is made. A character’s backstory, design, bending, techniques, and even their alliance, all have a part to play in the grand scheme of things. A design made by creators, Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, to perfectly fit their grand puzzle.
Aang and Katara
Knowing this, there are many decisions made that fans find difficult to assign meaning to. In situations like these, the creators lend a hand in exposing the intention behind why things were made the way that they were.

One example of this, that has had fans scratching their heads since the very first season was why Katara is the only bender in the South Pole.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time. Not only does it have stellar fan reviews from all sides, it also has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One of its most commended aspect is its immersive world-building. Not only are the dynamics between factions excellently well-thought-out, but the powers and bending as a concept are truly one of a kind.
Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Knowing just how magnificent the power structure is, it is surprising to find out that the original plan that the network had was a lot different. Nickelodeon seemed to be aiming for a ‘magic and action’ series, something that could have easily doomed the animated series before it was even released.
SUGGESTEDNickelodeon Could’ve Hit a Jackpot Had They Not Shut Down Plans for an Avatar: The Last Airbender Follow-up Sequel
Thankfully, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino came to the rescue.

“Loki” could conjure up a Best Drama Series nomination this year and give Disney and Marvel representation at this year’s Emmys. The second season of “Loki” continues the journey of Tom Hiddleston‘s titular former villain as he attempts to save the multiverse. Loki traverses the multiverse with the help of Owen Wilson‘s Mobius, Ke Huy Quan‘s Ouroboros, Sophia Di Martino‘s Sylvie, and Wunmi Mosaku‘s Hunter B-15. They are hoping to repair the damage caused to the multiverse during the events of the first season, with Kang (Jonathan Majors) again at the center of the trouble.
Season one was greeted with rapturous applause and this sophomore outing has been met with the same response.
Bob Strauss (The Wrap) observed: “Characters with compelling issues, high existential drama, quirky comedy and world-threatening action are blended better than in any other Disney+ show to date.”

Sylvie’s character is a bit harsher than Loki’s. She was taken by the Tva as a child and became a kind of Temporal Terrorist by the time she met Loki. Yet, her intentions were good.
She had a big impact on Loki’s growth, inspiring him to take the path he did, seemingly freeing everyone from He Who Remains’ control.
Certainly, many fans feel that ‘Loki’ offers rich thematic material to explore. A potential focus for season 3 could be Sylvie’s journey. It would be intriguing to witness her newfound freedom and purpose, perhaps with a hint of mischief, staying true to her Loki nature.
At the FYC Emmy screening and Q&a in Beverly Hills’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Sophia shared insights about ‘Loki’ season 3, admitting she’s just as clueless as the rest of us.

Sylvie’s character has been a bit less pleasant than Loki’s. She was captured as a child by the Tva and eventually grew into a certain kind of Temporal Terrorist by the time she met Loki. Despite that, it was clear that Sylvie had the best of intentions.
Her character played a massive role in Loki’s own character development, and in a way, she, inspired him to take on the path that he did. Seemingly freeing everyone from He Who Remains’ oppressive grasp.
Needless to say, some fans consider that ‘Loki’ has plenty of themes to work with, and one of the potential characters that the possible season 3 could cover would be Sylvie. It would be fascinating to see her living her life, finally free, now with a new purpose, perhaps with some taste of mischief, she is Loki after all.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino joined Deadline’s Contenders TV event Saturday to discuss set design, character motivations and the potential future of the Disney+ series beyond Season 2.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to churn out box office hits, it’s hard to believe that Hiddleston’s star-making turn as the celestial trickster brother to the hammer-wielding god Thor started well over a decade ago.
“I’ve absolutely loved playing Loki; it’s been 15 years, and it is the most magnificent and emotional roller coaster for the twists and turns,” Hiddleston said. “He has so much range and so much complexity, it never feels like [I’m playing] the same thing. But I know the reason I’m standing here in front of you today is that the audience has such curiosity and passion for and a connection to him.”

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is undergoing yet another behind-the-scenes change. Albert Kim, who served as showrunner for Season 1, is stepping down ahead of Season 2, passing his responsibilities to Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani.
As for Kim, he’s leaping from one adaptation of a beloved children’s franchise to another; he recently signed on to join Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians as an executive producer for its upcoming second season. Avatar Studios, created to churn our content set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, was welcomed with great fanfare by fans. To think of a studio that would dedicate all its resources towards making Avatar content was a huge win for fans of the franchise. However, fans were curious about what kinds of projects they might see coming out of the studio, leading to tons of rumors about the nature of the shows and films that the studio was making.

One such rumor seemed to be that Avatar: The Last Airbender will be getting a second helping with a fourth season, one that would focus on adapting the Dark Horse Comics run with the IP, which followed Zuko and Azula, where the former served as sort of an Uncle Iroh figure to the former heir apparent to the Phoenix Throne.

With its 2005 debut, Avatar: The Last Airbender—a longtime Nickelodeon mainstay—transported viewers to a magical realm in which the four elements were symbolized. This show told the story of Aang, the titular Avatar with the ability to control all elements, and it did so with a lot of heart, rich characters, and fascinating world-building. That is why many people consider Avatar: The Last Airbender to be among the greatest children’s television programs ever.

At a time when episodic releases were the norm for shows aimed at children, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dimartino opted to make Avatar: The Last Airbender a serialized show. And despite being made for children, adults too could find meaning in the series, thanks to the creative duo’s perfection, as it went on to become a phenomenon for an entire generation.
Among the many aspects that added greatly to the show’s quality, its rich world is arguably the most impressive, for which Dimartino and Konietzko went to extensive lengths to make it feel alive. Nothing displays the duo’s desire to go the extra mile more than the city of Ba Sing Se, which has some horrifying real-world roots.

In the animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender," the Avatar is meant to be a bridge between the human and the spirit worlds, a neutral party who can keep the two realms in equilibrium. Avatar Aang first ventures into the spirit world in the seventh episode of season 1: "The Spirit World."
In this episode, Aang and co. visit Senlin Village, a small forested town in the Earth Kingdom. A Fire Nation attack left the neighboring forest burnt down. The village's troubles don't end there, for they're being attacked at night by a monstrous spirit, Hei Bai. Aang learns that Hei Bai is the guardian of the forest and has been angered by its destruction (a la "Princess Mononoke"). He helps the black-and-white spirit understand what happened, and Hei Bai returns to his docile natural form: a giant panda.

After more than half a decade of development, Netflix unveiled its highly anticipated live- action Avatar: The Last Airbender on Friday.
The show, adapted from Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko’s animated series that premiered in 2005, follows the beloved story of Aang, an Avatar who can bend all four elements — water, earth, fire and air — and is responsible for maintaining harmony in his universe’s four nations. Along the way, Aang befriends waterbender Katara and her brother Sokka as they work together to end the fire nation’s war against the other nations. Frequently, the group faces off against Zuko, a fire nation prince locked in an ongoing pursuit of Aang’s demise.
Though Netflix’s live-action approach to the story heads for darker themes than Nickelodeon’s animated original, the cast of kids at the show’s center maintains the story’s sense of childlike wonder that is so beloved by fans.

When Netflix announced it would be remaking the beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender into a live-action show, fans were immediately skeptical. The original show, created by Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, is considered one of the greatest animated series of all time. Why try to remake perfection? According to Albert Kim, showrunner for the Netflix adaptation, the reason goes deeper than just trying to capitalize on the popularity of the original. In fact, it stems from the disappearance of the original creators themselves.

Well, Netflix seems really into the idea of making live-action remakes. Turning an animated show into a live-action while capturing its essence is tough. And Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s attempt at this didn’t go as expected.

With the arrival of Netflix live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, interest has been reignited in the original animated series. The writer and executive producer of Netflix’s live-action retelling of the Nickelodeon cartoon took on the role of showrunner after creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko exited the series — but he was already part of the writers room and a longtime “Avatar” fan before that.
“I did work with [Dimartino and Konietzko] for a short period, and we overlapped while we were here and I got along great with them,” Kim told IndieWire ahead of “Avatar”s February 22 premiere. “I was excited just as a fan to be able to dig in and ask my own nerdy fan questions about Zuko’s mom and who Aang’s parents might be, and all the fun stuff fans like to talk about.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is nowhere near the quality of the original animated series. It has to suffice with the review that it is a better version than M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film. It is not a win for the series since The Last Airbender 2010 had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 5% from the critics. The only exciting news for the disappointed fans is the upcoming animated movie that will continue the Airbender’s story from the Nickelodeon series.

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. In 2005, these four elements opened up a whole new world.
A world filled with history, heroes, villains, deities and immense powers. While it has been said by pundits on numerous occasions that there will never be another modern mythology the likes of Middle-Earth, Star Wars or Harry Potter, they were simply looking in the wrong place. There is an expectation that our great sagas must stem from novels and live-action projects, but it was animation that brought the power of Avatar: The Last Airbender to life and helped to change the way Western audiences thought about serialized animation and what constitutes as children’s programming.
As the live-action remake series, adapted from its animated predecessor, makes its debut on Netflix this week, now feels like the perfect time to reflect on its continued impact nearly 20 years since it premiered.

The highly anticipated Avatar: The Last Airbender has been released today. The series follows the story of Aang, a 12-year-old Avatar, capable of mastering all four elements. He must defeat the Fire Nation to end a century-long war.
Avatar: The Last Airbender – Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley)
Surprisingly, the live-action adaptation is receiving negative reviews. Its failure is due to a screenplay that was poorly done. They tried to fit too much into a short time, draining the life out of the story.
But before the show was reviewed by ruthless reviews, the original creators of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender lost respect for it due to a very straightforward reason.

All of Hollywood is looking for ways to reinvent successful stories, but what happens when the original is near-perfect? You have to reinvent the wheel while the prototype is still flourishing in the market, and the inventors watch from afar as their blueprints fall into new hands.
Such is the case with Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” a dramatic reimagining of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon from Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko. Both creators exited the live-action series in 2020, citing creative differences that have lurked in the shadows while the highly-anticipated end product makes its way to the screen. Under the guidance of showrunner Albert Kim, this is not your Gran-Gran’s “Avatar,” with mixed results.
As the title suggests, the series centers on a figure called the Avatar, one who can master all four elements in a world where water, earth, fire, and air are pillars of culture spirituality,...

M. Night Shyamlan’s 2010 film The Last Airbender may be the gold standard for how not to translate a beloved property from one medium to another. Though Shyamalan covered much of the plot of the first season of the animated fantasy epic Avatar: The Last Airbender, he misunderstood nearly everything else about the show, from casting white actors in roles that were designed to be Asian or Indigenous (and getting terrible performances out of them) to something as easily avoidable as mispronouncing half the characters’ names.
