John Welsh, Philadelphia and East Coast photographer and filmmaker has been working as a journalist and documentary filmmaker since 1987.
He also has taught photography privately, through various art institutions, and through undergraduate photography classes and workshops through the Honors Program and Studio at Villanova University.
He is a former member of the American Society of Media Photographers, has served as President of the Philadelphia Chapter and as a Director on the National Board.
As described in a Philadelphia Inquirer review about his Icelandic photography, John Welsh "seems to be working in the area between documentary photography and art." It's an approach he's taken in his photography that captures the spirit of the moment whether it's an Icelandic landscape or a university rugby match.
His recent projects include a documentary film about the fate of the Huber Coal Breaker, various short films about environmental issues in Northeast Pennsylvania, and has transformed the Iceland project to communicate authentic experiences regarding his time in the country.
