Elton John ripped into the Vatican and Pope Francis today after the Catholic Church announced it wouldn’t bless same-sex marriages because God “cannot bless sin.”
The musician wasted no time pointing out the “hypocrisy” of the Church’s decision. In a Monday tweet, John pointed out that the Vatican invested millions of dollars into his biographical film “Rocketman” — a dramatized retelling of John’s rise to stardom and eventual marriage to husband David Furnish — allowing the Vatican to make money off of an LGBTQ story.
“How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin,’ yet happily make a profit from investing millions in ‘Rocketman’ – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David?? #hypocrisy,” John tweeted.

Kevin Spacey regaled museum-goers in Rome on Friday with a reading of Italian poet Gabriele Tinti’s poem, “The Boxer.”
It’s unclear what Spacey was hoping to accomplish with the performance. In a press release, Tinti said the actor was motivated to give the reading because of “his sensitivity and deep love of art.”
It was, however, a strange return to the spotlight for Spacey. The actor’s career flamed out in 2017 after he was accused by more than a dozen people of sexual assault. He did get a legal break in July, however, when prosecutors dropped a criminal case in which Spacey was accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old busboy in Nantucket.
With that case behind him, the Oscar-winner appeared by the “Boxer at Rest” statue at the National Roman Museum to recite a poem about a broken down and worn out pugilist.

Director Michael Winterbottom may be the only person on earth uninterested in who killed Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007. Was it Amanda Knox, who confessed under duress, recanted, then was convicted, acquitted, convicted and acquitted at last? Or was the killer actually chronic knife-wielding housebreaker Rudy Guede, who confessed, and whose DNA (unlike Knox’s) was all over Kercher’s body and bedroom? Don’t ask Winterbottom. While his film “The Face of an Angel” loosely adapts the bible of the Knox-Did-It fact-ion, Barbie Latza Nadeau’s “Angel Face,” he won’t assess the evidence, the victims, the accused or the legal process.

Michael Winterbottom has spoken about directing Cara Delevingne in his latest movie and claimed she's "not an actor in the traditional sense".
The model-turned-actress stars in Winterbottom's The Face of an Angel, a drama closely inspired by the events surrounding the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2007.
Speaking to The Guardian's G2 supplement, the director revealed that he hadn't heard of Delevingne before he met her.
"I didn't really know who she was, but as soon as I met her I knew she'd be perfect for [the role]," he said.
"The film is pretty much entirely scripted so she is acting, but it's a quality of hers which she's projecting.
"I think she's like Julie Christie in that way: not an actor in the traditional sense but with a fantastic ability to project things on-screen," he complimented.

Cara Delevingne's film The Face of an Angel has unveiled a new trailer.
The Michael Winterbottom trailer centres on the trial of Amanda Knox, who was accused of sexually assaulting and killing British student Meredith Kercher.
Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of the crime. Knox served four years before being acquitted. However, she was found guilty once again in a retrial.
Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale also star in the film, which is heavily inspired by Barbie Latza Nadeau's book Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox.
Brühl stars as a filmmaker who travels to Italy to research a film adaptation of the book. He soon forges a friendship with a British student, played by Delevingne.
The Face of an Angel will be released in the UK on March 27 and in the Us on June 30.

Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights to The Face Of An Angel, director Michael Winterbottom’s psychological thriller inspired by the killing of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy and the resulting trial of her flatmate, American student Amanda Knox. Daniel Brühl, Kate Beckinsale, Valerio Mastandrea and Cara Delevingne star in the tale of a film director (Brühl) researching a movie based on a violent Kercher-esque murder case who becomes tormented by the motivations of everyone involved, including himself. The WestEnd Films production premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last month and next hits the London Film Festival this week. Screen Media is planning a day and date release in Q2 of 2015.

“You can’t tell the truth unless it’s a fiction,” a filmmaker is told as he travels to Italy to make a film about the murder of a British student. Using this philosophy British Filmmaker Winterbottam has made a film about the murder of 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher in 2007, by changing the names of the protagonists and moving the setting from Perugia to Sienna. The character Simone (Kate Beckinsale) is based on Barbie Latza Nadeau, the journalist who wrote Angel Face, one of the first books published about the trial. The unanswered question of the film is whether filmmaker Thomas (Daniel Brühl) is actually a self-portrait from Winterbottom.

Much like the media sensationalism around the Amanda Knox trial itself, there have been misleading reports that Michael Winterbottom’s new film The Face Of An Angel is an Amanda Knox exposé.
“It’s not a film about Amanda Knox,” Michael Winterbottom says emphatically about his new film, being sold at Efm by WestEnd Films. “The case in our film is a fictional case.”
“Once people see the film the talk about [Amanda Knox] will stop,” he adds.
It’s easy to see why there is some confusion, as Winterbottom acquired the rights to Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by the American journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau. But he uses that book just as a jumping off point for his original script (written by Paul Viragh).

Michael Winterbottom's new film The Face of an Angel, loosely based on Barbie Latza Nadeau's book on the Amanda Knox case, Angel Face, is drawing fire from Candace Dempsey, whose competing book Murder in Italy is far more sympathetic to Knox. Reacting to the movie's trailer, unveiled this week at Berlin's European Film Market, Dempsey calls the film "an invasion of Amanda's life." Knox's 2009 conviction for the 2007 murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy, was reversed in 2011, when she returned to Seattle. Another Italian court upheld her conviction on Jan. 30, 2014. "It hit

Over the course of his directing career, Michael Winterbottom has been known for not limiting himself, moving between film and television, and having a filmography that includes 24 Hour Party People and The Trip as well as The Shock Doctrine and The Killer Inside Me. Fans of the director were thus intrigued to learn of his next project, an adaptation of the story of Amanda Knox. Titled The Face of an Angel, Winterbottom directs from a script by Paul Viragh, adapting from the book by Barbie Latza Nadeau. The film stars Daniel Bruhl and Kate Beckinsale, and the first trailer for the film has now been released, and can be seen below.

The forthcoming BBC Films project is a fictional adaptation of Barbie Latza Nadeau’s book “Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox.”
And given the cast, including Kate Beckinsale, Cara Delevigne and Daniel Bruhl, it looks like the flick may actually do pretty well.

She already got the Lifetime treatment. Now Amanda Knox is getting a fictional adaptation loosely based on her murder trial and the nonfiction book Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by Barbie Latza Nadeau. The film, The Face of an Angel, is billed as a psychological thriller, and a first-look teaser came out this week. It stars Kate Beckinsale as journalist Simone Ford, who wrote a book about the trial. As for the real-life victim, Meredith Kercher, and the accused, Amanda Knox, their names have been changed to Jessica and Elizabeth. In The Face of an Angel, Simone pairs up with a British filmmaker Thomas (Daniel Brühl), who travels to Italy to make a film based on her work. In comes model Cara Delevingne. While in Italy, the newly divorced filmmaker strikes up a relationship with a young, intriguing British student, Melanie, played by Delevingne.

To be fair to the Michael Winterbottom film, the names have changed, and the story is really more interested in the reporter and documentary filmmaker covering the Amanda Knox affair. (The project is based on the non-fiction book Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox, by journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau. Blame her for the title.) But yes: Italy, two beautiful girls, sex, murder … it's all here, in a conveniently timed teaser. Nice to see Daniel Brühl, though.

It’s usually wise to approach any film promising to “go beyond the truth” with an element of caution – how do you go beyond the truth? Is there a bus? – but Michael Winterbottom is a filmmaker with a strong track record in handling true-life stories with care and diligence. The Face Of An Angel is a slightly unusual case, though. Watch its first teaser-trailer-clip-type-thing below and see what you think. The film springboards off a book by The Daily Beast’s Rome stringer Barbie Latza Nadeau called Angel Face: Sex, Murder And The Inside Story of Amanda Knox. Nadeau investigated the strange circumstances behind Amanda Knox’s time in Italy in 2009.Knox (Cara Delevingne) and her boyfriend of the time, Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted of killing their Perugia housemate Meredith Kercher in 2009, spending two years in prison for the crime. Starring Daniel Bruhl, Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevingne, if these thirty seconds are anything to go by, "The Face Of An Angel" is very much about the trial of Amanda Knox (renamed here...

Us suspect in Kercher murder case who refused to attend retrial in Italy is peripheral to The Face of an Angel, British actor insists

The story is similar to the Amanda Knox case, but the focus of the film will be more on the media circus surrounding the trial than the crime itself.
Melissa Parmenter is producing, and filming begins shortly in Tuscany, Italy.

Catwalk stalker Cara Delevingne will be starring in Michael Winterbottom's "The Face of an Angel" as a beautiful murder suspect. Deadline reports that "the plot bears some resemblance to the travails of Amanda Knox," the American student accused and convicted of the murder of her housemate in Italy. (Knox's conviction was overturned in 2011, but she's currently being retried.)
"The Face of an Angel" is reportedly based on the book "Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox" by Barbie Latza Nadeau of The Daily Beast, but it sounds like Nadeau's book is more a jumping-off point for Paul Viragh's screenplay. "Angel" will also star Kate Beckinsale as a journalist investigating the case, and upcoming hotshot actor Daniel Bruhl as a filmmaker who's also digging into the investigation.
This project has been in the works since about 2010, when it was reported that Colin Firth was attached to star as a journalist.

The latest Michael Winterbottom film is based on the Barbie Latza Nadeau book Angel Face – one loosely focused on the American student Amanda Knox who was convicted of killing her housemate in Italy and later set free on appeal. Gearing up for a 2014 release, The Face Of An Angel just cast Kate Beckinsale to star alongside Daniel Brühl and model Cara Delevingne. (Her dreams are coming true!) According to Deadline, Delevingne is appropriately playing the “angel” in question, or "the suspect in a murder." Beckinsale stars as a journalist pursuing the case while Brühl will be “a documentary filmmaker who’s also trying to get to the bottom of things.” There are also unconfirmed reports of Colin Firth circling the project, so all in all it should be interesting.

Rising actor Daniel Brühl ("Rush," "The Fifth Estate") has scored the lead role in Michael Winterbottom's psychological thriller "The Face of an Angel".
Paul Viragh penned the script which is loosely adapted from Barbie Latza Nadeau's novel "Angel Face". That book deals with the Amanda Knox trial and the media manipulation around it - especially by Knox's family.
Winterbottom says his film version takes a different path, following a troubled filmmaker researching a sensational murder trial in Italy. When the victim becomes forgotten in the media frenzy, the filmmaker is inspired to reconnect with his own daughter.
Cara Delevingne ("Anna Karenina") and Valerio Mastandrea ("The First Beautiful Thing") also star in the project which begins shooting in November in Siena and Rome.
