When it came time to build a third standalone “Thor” feature, Marvel brass had a few different elements that they felt were necessary for inclusion, all the better to bolster the superhero’s solo power after the relative disappointment of “Thor: The Dark World.” Mostly, there needed to be more humor, the kind that could capitalize on star Chris Hemsworth’s growing acclaim as a comedian, but not feel out of place in the McU as a whole. And perhaps the big guy needed a buddy, too, a fellow superhero also capable of teasing out both humor and pathos.
As Marvel president Kevin Feige explains, the franchise found an unlikely connection between those aims and a favorite piece of comic book lore. First up, though, “Thor: Ragnarok” needed to be its own thing, and get away from a predecessor that didn’t quite tap into what makes the Asgardian god...

There’s a brilliant moment late in “Thor: Ragnarok” in which Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) propels himself out of a spaceship to help his friends in the battle below. By now, most people inundated with Marvel movies over the past decade know the drill: The shock of the free fall transforms Banner into his raging alter ego, The Hulk, who lands on both feet with a domineering thud — except this time, it doesn’t. Banner face-plants on the magic rainbow bridge of Asgard, and for a moment both sides of the conflict stand agape.
This is the essence of the energetic spark that director Taika Waititi brings to the third “Thor” movie, which injects more overt comedy to Marvel’s sprawling expanded universe than ever before. That should come as no surprise: The Kiwi director’s vampire mockumentary “What We Do In the Shadows” and last year’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople...

Ant-Man is the latest success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and after a solid theatrical run it’s due to hit home video next week. The Blu-ray/DVD are loaded with special features — deleted scenes, featurettes, and a gag reel — and chief among them is a commentary track featuring director Peyton Reed and star Paul Rudd. Keep reading to see what I heard on the Ant-Man commentary. Ant-Man (2015) Commentators: Peyton Reed (director), Paul Rudd (actor) 1. They’re recording the commentary on Schoeps MK41 microphones “for you tech-heads out there.” 2. Of all the film’s special effects, the one that made Reed the most nervous was making Michael Douglas (as Hank Pym) look 25 years younger in the opening scene. He credits Lola VFX with the amazing job. It involved filming Douglas with dots on his face, filming a younger actor performing the same beats, and then capturing Douglas in a 3-D scanner. 3. Reed...

Marvel has released a clip and the synopses for the first two episodes of Agent Carter. The first episode called “Now is Not the End,” and it was written by Captain America: The Winter Solider writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It was directed by Louis D’Esposito, and here’s the description:
“Peggy is contacted by old acquaintance Howard Stark when he is framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons and can trust no one else. To help Peggy clear Stark’s name, he insists his butler, Edwin Jarvis, be at her beck and call–whether she likes it or not. But the risk is great: If caught, Agent Carter could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison…or worse.”
The second episode is titled “Bridge and Tunnel.” It was written by Eric Pearson and helmed by one of the Captain America: The Winter Solider directors,...

Ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier's release on disc, we talk to Christopher Markus about sequel screenwriting and Peggy Carter...
Nb: The following contains spoilers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Together with regular collaborator Stephen McFeely, screenwriter Christopher Markus has enjoyed a decade-long career in the film industry, having co-written such films as The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers, the three Chronicles Of Narnia movies and Michael Bay's Pain & Gain.
Most recently, Markus and McFeely have been working closely with Marvel, having produced the screenplays for Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor: The Dark World. This year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier represented a new challenge for the duo, however: their aim was to not only follow the success of Cap's debut outing in 2011, but also forge a mature, conspiracy-thriller inspired storyline which would also be accessible to family audiences.

Marvel has recruited a pair of new writers to lend a hand on the Ant-Man script, with Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer set to join the project. The script has been few a fair few drafts by this stage, with Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish writing the original, before Eric Pearson was brought on to perform the rewrites before Wright walked away from the project. Following that, Adam McKay was approached to rewrite the script for new director, Peyton Reed, and now Ferrari and Barrer have been approached to make some tweaks to that latest...

Now that Marvel Studios has hired Yes Man director Peyton Reed to direct Ant-Man after the departure of Edgar Wright, production is looming closer. But before cameras roll, The Other Guys and Anchorman director Adam McKay was hired to do a rewrite in the wake of Wright and Attack the Block scribe Joe Cornish leaving the project after seeing it all the way through development. Supposedly, it was the rewrites from Marvel One-Shot write Eric Pearson that didn't jive with the duo, causing them both to leave. Now two more names will do one more run through to polish the script as well as being the on-set writers. Read on! Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer have been hired for this final round of rewrites, and they will also be on-set in case the script needs some fixing (this is a common practice). Latino Review has the report on the new gig for the duo,...

After Marvel turned to frequent One-Shot writer Eric Pearson to touch up Joe Cornish and director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man script led to the latter departing the project, Anchorman’s Adam McKay – who was at one point approached to replace Wright – was announced as the new writer of the movie.
However, according to a new report, writing duo Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer are now the latest to come aboard and Ant-Man as they have been hired to rewrite the script which was revised by McKay.
The news was broken by Latino-Review, and they point out the fact that rather than this being a sign that Ant-Man (which will now be directed by Yes Man helmer Peyton Reed) is in terrible trouble as it moves into production, Ferrari and Barrer have simply been hired as production writers.
This means that they will be on the Ant-Man set in Atlanta to...

The dust has settled on the Ant-Man story that saw Edgar Wright leave the picture after working on it for eight years alongside co-writer Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). Now Peyton Reed (The Break Up) will direct with a screenplay that will reportedly be overseen by Adam McKay (The Other Guys), whatever that means. However, Film Drunk is throwing a little more fuel on the fire, adding another reason why Wright may have chose to walk from the feature. We've all heard of Eric Pearson's supposedly hastily thrown together script rewrite that was said to be the reason Wright and Cornish decided the gig wasn't for them, and while the tone of the picture was no longer what Wright saw in his head, a source at Film Drunk suggests product placement may have also been an issue: they were finding little spots to work in ads. because disney is...

Peyton Reed (Yes Man, Bring It On) has been named as the director that will replace Edgar Wright on Marvel's Ant-Man, set for release on July 17, 2015 and starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas while Adam McKay, who was previously rumored to take over as director, will instead contribute to the film's script. The studio also released a new official synopsis: Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. There is no word if Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish will get any credit for the film's screenplay or Eric Pearson, who was said to have written...

Are we seeing a new ‘universe expansion’ strategy develop at Marvel? Having already created the TV show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D from ideas contained in their short films, the writers of Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – have revealed that their long-rumoured Agent Carter pilot is currently under consideration at ABC.
Agent Carter proved to be one of the most popular characters in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and, as Cap gazed at her picture while his plane plunged into the ice, fans were somewhat dismayed at the prospect of that being her only outing. The rumour mill churned with suggestions that such a strong character could lead her own story, providing Marvel with a much-needed female-focused project amidst all the testosterone.
Perhaps testing the waters, the Iron Man 3 DVD and Blu-Ray release was accompanied by an Agent Carter Marvel...

Take another look @ all of the "Marvel One-Shot" films to date:
Marvel One-Shots' are produced by Marvel Studios, set within the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe', included as special features in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Blu-ray releases.
"It's a fun way to experiment with new characters and ideas," said One-Shot co-producer Brad Winderbaum, "but more importantly it's a way for us to expand the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' and tell stories that live outside the plot of our features."
"There’s always a potential to introduce a character, " said Marvel's Louis D'Esposito.
"We have 8,000 of them, and they can’t all be at the same level. So maybe there are some that are not so popular, and we introduce them - and they take off. I could see that happening".
Marvel One-Shots include:
"The Consultant" (2011), released on the "Thor" Blu-ray 3D, directed by Leythum and written by Eric Pearson, with music by Paul Oakenfold,...
