Ever since audiences—at least according to myth—ran screaming from the premiere screening of Auguste and Louis Lumière’s 1895 short black-and-white silent documentary Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, the histories of filmgoing and horror have been inextricably intertwined. Through the decades—and subsequent crazes for color and sound, stereoscopy and anamorphosis—since that train threatened to barrel into the front row, there’s never been a time when audiences didn’t clamor for the palpating fingers of fear. Horror films remain perennially popular, despite periodic (and always exaggerated) rumors of their demise, even in the face of steadily declining ticket sales and desperately shifting models of distribution.
Into the new millennium, horror films have retained their power to shock and outrage by continuing to plumb our deepest primordial terrors, to incarnate our sickest, most socially unpalatable fantasies. They are, in what amounts to a particularly delicious irony,...

In the world of “Hunter Hunter,” director Shawn Linden’s backwoods horror movie, humans are carrion in the talons of nature. This survivalist thriller set in the Manitoba wilderness packs a gut-twisting punch in its final moments as a family of fur trappers (led by a grizzled Devon Sawa) faces the cruel indifference of the forest. While “Hunter Hunter” initially primes audiences for a man-versus-nature story about humans trying to outdo a cunning wolf, the film spirals into much darker terrain as the sun turns anemic, the body count rises, and hope fizzles out. While the grindhouse levels of shock and gore piled on in the third act may seem out of the cold blue, “Hunter Hunter” carefully lays the groundwork throughout for .
An almost post-apocalyptic vibe hangs over the Manitoba forest, bringing to mind films like “The Road” and the video game “The Last of Us,” soon to become an HBO series.

Camille Sullivan stars with Devon Sawa, and Nick Stahl in Hunter Hunter, the new film from writer/director Shawn Linden.
Anne and Joseph (Sullivan and Sawa) are living in the remote wilderness with their daughter Renee (Summer H. Howell), making their living and surviving as fur trappers. That quiet existence is broken when the family think they're being hunted by a rogue wolf, sending Joseph on a tracking mission. Enter Lou (Stahl), who randomly shows up and enters the family's life unannounced which begs a couple of questions: is he the killer? Is he the wolf?
We'll have to wait to find out for sure but it certainly seems that there's a twist coming at some point in this story.

Neve Campbell admits she was relieved not to have her kids with her when she was filming “Clouds.”
“I’d have some stuff to shed every evening,” she tells Variety. “There were days of heavy crying, and I’d just be drained.”
The Disney Plus drama is based on Laura Sobiech’s memoir “Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom’s Small Prayer in a Big Way,” about her son Zach’s battle with bone cancer. Before Zach’s death at 18, a video of him performing his song “Clouds” went viral. “We had a director’s chair with Zach’s name on it,” says Campbell, who plays Laura. “It was always on set.”
Did you know about Zach’s story before signing on for the movie?

Disney+'s new movie Clouds tells the tragic and true story of Zach Sobiech (played by Fin Argus), a teenage songwriter from Stillwater, Minnesota, whose uplifting music reached global recognition while he battled a rare terminal cancer that would soon take his life.
According to SoulPancake's documentary about Zach's life called Meet Zach Sobiech: My Last Days, Zach was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in his hip and left leg in 2009 at age 14. In June 2012, three years after his original diagnosis, during which he underwent 10 surgeries and 20 rounds of chemotherapy, doctors discovered that Zach's cancer had spread to both of his lungs, giving him between six months to a year to live. In the midst of his pain and the anticipated grief of his departure, Zach began to write music as a way of saying goodbye to the people he loved the most, without realizing that his songs...

Prepare to swear allegiance to the Cult of Chucky.
Four weeks out from release, Universal Pictures has conjured up a whole host of creepy stills – stills in which the Devil Doll checks into an asylum, much to the dismay of those haunted patients desperate for some sense of normalcy. But Chucky has other ideas in mind.
Building off the nightmarish events that transpired in Curse of Chucky, Don Mancini’s direct-to-video horror sequel primarily takes place in a mental hospital, where Nica (Fiona Dourif) is being nursed along the road to recovery. Also starring Summer H. Howell, Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly, who’s now considered to be a cornerstone of the Child’s Play franchise, Cult of Chucky is tailor-made for long-time supporters of the Devil Doll, but it’ll be fascinating to gauge how the film fares with lapsed fans and the moviegoing masses.

It’s amazing how one film can single-handedly rejuvenate a franchise, even one of horror’s most storied series. There were major question marks after Chucky became a daddy in Seed Of Chucky, but thanks to Don Mancini’s brilliant reboot/sequel hybrid Curse of Chucky (which I Loved), it comes as no surprise that the Chuckster’s legacy will live on so he can slash through another day.

On the outside, Chucky may appear to be a harmless, pint-sized “friend to the end” Good Guy doll, but the popular toy houses the evil spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. Debuting in the 1988 film Child’s Play, Chucky has sliced, stabbed, and slaughtered his way through five movies in an effort to possess a human form. 2004's Seed of Chucky marked his last sadistic endeavor, and ever since he’s been missing in action... until now. Produced, written and directed by Chucky's creator, Child's Play creator Don Mancini, Curse of Chucky finds the horror icon adding to his body count in the latest entry of the franchise. “Chucky’s been dormant,” explains Mancini. “We’ve wanted to do a new Chucky movie for a while.
