Brooklyn, NY native, Johnny Calabro grew up listening to rock and roll radio disc jockeys playing music of The Beatles. Johnny decided that he should have a radio station of his own, so he helped build one in the bedroom of the NYC Housing Projects he lived in. His "Pirate Radio" exploits as a teen (using the names Hal Hall and Hank Hayes) served as the inspiration for the motion picture character "Happy Harry Hardon" in "Pump Up The Volume."
