In “Copycat Killer” Episode six, all of Kuo’s work goes down the drain with the death of Jian Wun, who was being hunted by Kuo and his team; for he had been identified as the serial killer/rapist of Songyang city who had created havoc, especially among the female population. Along with Jian Wun, his best friend from childhood, Jian Ho, died, which was a pity as he was turning out to be a great asset to the investigation team because Kuo had hoped to get more information about Jian Wun from him. Jian Ho and Wun did not survive, but Yong Lin’s daughter Yu-Tong survived the accident. It will take her a while to recover from the shock she has been through. But Kuo feels there is more here than they are being shown; he does not know what, but he is keen to find out. What is this missing piece?...

Maverick director Robert Aldrich’s one foray into grand-scale epic filmmaking is returned to crystal clarity in this fine import disc, a restoration from original Italian film elements. Stewart Granger’s Lot allies his Hebrew tribe with the notorious cities of evil, and almost loses his soul to Anouk Aimée’s wicked Queen Bera. Pier Angeli is the slave who becomes Lot’s wife, and Rossana Podestà is the daughter taken by Stanley Baker’s rapacious prince. Second unit director Sergio Leone whips up a terrific battle scene (maybe), Ken Adam provides the spectacular sets and Miklós Rózsa the powerful music score. And yes, the explosive finish involves hellfire, brimstone and the Biblical Pillar of Salt.

Welcome to the Real Sin City. Randall Flagg’s version of New Vegas is something that might bring to mind images of Sodom and Gomorrah and the old testament since thanks to the decision to send three spies into Vegas, the leaders of the Boulder Free Zone have unwittingly provoked Flagg into seeking out those individuals. But as it was seen in the book and the first miniseries he can’t appear to track down Tom Cullen, which is kind of interesting given that Tom is hiding in plain sight along with Dayna and Judge Harris. We did get to see that

Neon Genesis Evangelion Rewatch is a series of essays where Willow Maclay will be covering the streaming release of Hideaki Anno’s landmark anime show.In the Old Testament of the Bible there’s a circular narrative built around stories of punishment and submission underneath the will of a divine force. If you had faith in God and his will then you could escape these punishments, like Noah or Lot in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The morals of these stories are usually tied up in notions of there being a specific way that people are supposed to lead their lives. Neon Genesis Evangelion feels a bit like the Old Testament at times, with the beings known as Angels attacking what’s left of the human race. The Angel attacks feel like a divine punishment for trying to become like God through science. In the beginning of the show...

In the 1970s, Studio 54 was the epicenter of New York nightlife. With wildly theatrical sets, a guest list of celebs, and jet-setters that included everyone from Andy Warhol to Grace Jones, and a pulsating disco beat, the nightclub helped define the Me Decade. But its reign was short lived. In 1980, founders Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager were convicted of tax evasion after skimming nearly $2.5 million in unreported income.
The club and Rubell and Schrager’s rise to the top of the Manhattan social ladder are documented in Matt Tyrnauer’s acclaimed new documentary, “Studio 54.” Rubell died of complications from AIDS in 1989, but the film boasts in-depth interviews with Schrager, who has been hesitant in the past to publicly reflect on that heady time.
It’s easy to see why he’d be wary of revisiting the more painful parts of his past. Schrager successfully reinvented himself, helping to...

This book came out of a particular moment, and a particular place — England, in the mid-80s, during one of its periodic frenzies about “offensive” material in comics form. But it’s more generally applicable, to any nation that claims a heritage from an Abrahamaic religion
It’s a book that was created to make a point. An obvious one, for people who actually knew the truth, but Bible-thumpers are regularly ignorant of many of the horrible lessons contained in the thing they thump.
The title gives it away, of course: Outrageous Tales from the Old Testament . All the murder and rape and war and human sacrifice and “take my virgin daughters instead of my male guest” that can be crammed into 68 pages, by a crew of major and semi-major names from the independent UK scene at the time. The book was edited and assembled by someone, but that person...
