If you think about it, there’s no better place to premiere “Black Twitter: A People’s History” than at South by Southwest.
The three-part Hulu and Onyx docuseries based on Jason Parham’s similarly titled “Wired” story exists at the perfect intersection of entertainment, internet, and culture — just like SXSW itself.

Based on its first trailer, FX’s upcoming docuseries about Hillsong Church seems as though it’s going to be as explosive as its subject matter.
In this first look at “The Secrets of Hillsong,” the series accuses Hillsong of “child abuse, labor abuse and sexual assault.” The four-part series is set to premiere on FX on May 19 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
The trailer features interview footage of disgraced ex-pastor Carl Lentz. The celebrity pastor served as a spiritual advisor to Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner before he was fired in 2020. According to Hillsong Global Pastor Brian Houston, Lentz was fired for “leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.” But as the docuseries teases, there may be more to this story.
“You do not want to be in this chair. I cannot stress it enough,” Lentz says in the trailer.

Onyx has ordered a scripted comedy from 20th Television featuring Gabourey Sidibe and has made straight to series order on a docuseries about Black Twitter.
The pilot 1266 follows Gabby Brixton (Sidibe), who’s living with her mom and making half-hearted attempts to become a singer/model and overnight millionaire. The series is inspired by the true-life story of Sidibe, who is executive producing with Thembi Banks (Only Murders in the Building), Steven Canals (Pose), and Julie Bean (grown-ish), with Jill Kaplan to serve as a non-writing executive producer. The Disney-owned brand, which is expressly focused on programming from creators of color and other underrepresented voices, announced Saturday a pilot pickup for a Gabourey Sidibe comedy, tentatively titled 1266, and a straight-to-series order for a multi-party documentary series about Black Twitter. Disney+ has unveiled an eclectic slate of five new U.K. unscripted originals spanning a broad range of talent and topics from Keanu Reeves to arguably the most talked about U.K. trial in years.
Wagatha Christie (working title), produced by Lorton Street Entertainment in association with Dorothy Street Pictures, will be uncovering one of the biggest tabloid news stories in Britain over the last decade, revealing how Coleen Rooney, wife of soccer star Wayne Rooney, turned amateur sleuth to reveal who had been leaking private stories to the press, and the high-profile defamation case brought against her by fellow footballer’s wife Rebekah Vardy. In something of a coup for Disney+, the three-part series will be told through exclusive access to Rooney, alongside interviews with family, friends and key players involved in the trial.

‘Marvel’s 616’ at Comic-Con: Disney Plus Docuseries Highlights Unsung Women, Wacky Marvel Characters
Usually a massive presence at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Entertainment is largely sitting out this year’s virtual iteration of the 50-year-old fan convention, Comic-Con@Home. That is, save for a panel on “Marvel’s 616,” a Disney Plus docuseries that covers the history of Marvel Comics through the lens of a series of individual filmmakers.
Actors Gillian Jacobs (“Community”) and Paul Scheer (“Black Monday”) joined the panel to share their experiences directing episodes for the series, the first time either had made a documentary film. Jacobs and Scheer joined executive producer Sarah Amos (also vice president of development and production for new media at Marvel) and executive producer Jason Sterman (whose production company Supper Club made the series) to talk with moderator Angélique Roché about their differing approaches to their episodes.
Sterman explained that “Marvel’s 616” was designed to feel as tonally and thematically disparate as the vast universe of Marvel Comics,...
