Next week, one of the first movies to debut as theaters reopen will be The Outpost, an adaptation of Jake Tapper’s book that tells the true story of the U.S. soldiers who battled a Taliban attack on their camp in a mountainous remote area of northeastern Afghanistan. The project, directed by Rod Lurie, tells of the soldiers’ risky assignment at Combat Outpost Keating, made all the more dangerous by the placement of the camp in a valley surrounded by the steep terrain. But it was an element of a counter-insurgency strategy, as the outpost was close to the border with Pakistan. Eight Americans died in the attack, but by the end of the day, the soldiers regained control. Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha and Staff Sgt. Ty Carter were awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions during the battle. Starring Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom,...

Right now, the DC Extended Universe is one giant question mark — and most notably, The Batman may be the biggest question mark of all. Initially, Ben Affleck was set to write, direct, and star in the Caped Crusader film. However, last year saw him backpedaling from the responsibility, and earlier this year, we saw him leave the role of director altogether. So with Affleck free from the obligations of helming that picture, what would be another film we’d see him take on next?
It sounds like, in true Affleck form, he’s headed for a much more grounded project. The Tracking Board is reporting that the two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker is currently in talks with Sony to direct Red Platoon, a film based on the memoirs of the same name from Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha.
The outlet is describing the project as follows:
“On Oct. 3, 2009, more than 300 Taliban...

Ben Affleck has got a new film project that he's set his sights on to direct. According to The Tracking Board, he's in early talks to direct a war film called Red Platoon. The movie is set up at Sony Pictures and it would be his first non-Warner Bros. film project since he started directing movies.
Insiders are also saying that the studio is looking at Ben's brother Casey Affleck to star in the film. Here's a description of the story that the film will tell:
Based on the memoir by Clinton Romesha, Red Platoon tells the story of the Battle of Kamdesh, which took place during the War in Afghanistan. On Oct. 3, 2009, more than 300 Taliban fighters launched a predawn raid on Outpost Keating, a remote and controversial American outpost near the Afghan-Pakistani border, overrunning its perimeter defenses and breaching its wire. Staff Sgt. Romesha, a husband and father of three children,...

Ben Affleck’s next film as director, following Live By Night, was supposed to be the new standalone Dark Knight adventure, The Batman. There’s still speculation as to whether Affleck is stepping away from the cape and cowl entirely, in spite of his insistence that he’s committed to the role. Away from Gotham City, though, he’s found another project to interest him.
