Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not) are back behind the camera for Scream VI, now playing in movie theaters nationwide.
In the brand new movie, “The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
That means we can expect themes and character arcs introduced in 2022’s Scream to deepen. With Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett at the helm, that also means brand new Easter eggs and franchise nods nestled within the slasher thrill ride. The franchise, since its inception, revolves around its commentary and reverence for the horror genre, after all.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with the directors ahead of the film’s release. They explained that they couldn’t resist one of the more obvious references regarding their New York City set sequel: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.

On Friday, Fangoria and Fangoria Studios released their 2023 Chainsaw Award nominations, which recognize outstanding achievements in horror film and television. First established in 1992, the Chainsaw Awards honor works and artists in a genre frequently overlooked by traditional organizations and critics groups. Past recipients include Wes Craven, George A. Romero, Lupita Nyong’o, Anthony Hopkins and Elisabeth Moss.
“Nope,” Jordan Peele’s follow-up to “Us,” received the most nominations of any film in Chainsaw Award contention, with 10 nominations including best wide release movie and best director. You better watch out because Santa Claus is coming to town. This time, Santa’s a killer robot with a mean streak.
Joe Begos (Bliss, Vfw) is back with the holiday horror slasher Christmas Bloody Christmas, which will release day-and-date in theaters from Rlje Films and streaming on Shudder on December 9, 2022.
“It’s Christmas Eve, and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms (Riley Dandy) just wants to get drunk and party until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated.
“Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal, and violence, ultimately forcing Tori into a blood-splattered battle for survival against the ruthless heavy metal Saint Nick himself.”
Sam Delich, Jonah Ray Rodrigues, Dora Madison, and Jeremy Gardner also star in Christmas Bloody Christmas along with Jeff Daniel Phillips and Abraham Benrubi.

I’ve been a fan of writer/director Joe Begos’ work ever since I saw his first feature, Almost Human, back in 2104 at Frightfest. My love of his work was cemented by The Mind’s Eye, Bliss and Vfw. One thing his films are known for are the various influences that 80s cinema has had on his work – from The Mind’s Eye being inspired by Scanners; Bliss feeling like the brethren of Near Dark by way of To Live or Die in LA… Begos’ films tend to take on different cinematic horror tropes, whilst harkening back to the 80s, in both style and substance.
For many of us, the 80s is an era where ideas were allowed to run rampant, mainly in part due to...

It's the most wonderful time of the year. I'm talking about Beyond Fest: probably one of the best (if not the best) genre film festivals in Los Angeles. Every year they seem to top themselves with the screenings they hold. This year, they had an incredible Rrr screening in IMAX at the Tcl Chinese Theatre and a William Shatner triple feature with Shatner himself in attendance. But today, I'll be talking about a movie that will be your new favorite Christmas killer robotic Santa movie. I'm talking about the new Joe Begos joint, Christmas Bloody Christmas.
I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater filled with Christmas cheer, Santa hats from everyone, and a killer robot Santa photo op. So, without further ado, let me tell you what this movie is all about: "...it’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms...

Hulu’s Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, is available now exclusively on Hulu.
In the new Hellraiser movie from Hulu, “A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”
The film summons forth a new batch of Cenobites, led by Jamie Clayton’s Hell Priest. Bruckner’s vision for the iconic Cenobites forgoes the leather and pushes the self-mutilation even further. In the Priest’s case, it results in extravagant robes made of flesh.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Bruckner on the new look of the Cenobites, from concept art through to practical effects prosthetics.
“I didn’t know how to replicate the original Hellraiser,” Bruckner explained the initial concept change. “It’s too good of a movie to copy it in some way.

When it was announced last year that Jamie Clayton had been cast to play the iconic Hell Priest, aka Pinhead in David Bruckner's reboot of "Hellraiser," an unfortunate number of horror fans were left asking, "Who?" Headlines primarily focused on the groundbreaking decision to cast the character originated by Doug Bradley with a woman, discussing the idea of Clayton's inclusion far more than her talents as an actor. It seemed as if the general discourse was more interested in debating the merits of Pinhead being played by a trans woman, rather than celebrating the trans woman chosen to play the part.
Jamie Clayton first broke onto the scene with a short-lived reality TV series called "TRANSform Me," with Laverne Cox and Nina Poon. A successor to the original run of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," the series saw the three hosts providing full-life makeovers to cisgender women in need.

Bloody Disgusting’s Hellraiser review is spoiler-free.
Hellraiser needs no introduction. Clive Barker’s feature debut, which he adapted from his novella The Hellbound Heart, introduced horror to the hellish world of the Cenobites and instantly catapulted them to horror icon status. The arbiters of pain and suffering are back in the franchise’s eleventh feature, this time with a reimagining by The Night House director David Bruckner and screenwriters Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins. Their Hellraiser takes a more faithful approach to Barker’s works, but with new hellish sights to show you.
A cold open introduces debauched billionaire Roland Voight (Goran Visnjic) and his experimentation with the iconic puzzle box. Six months later, recovering addict Riley (Odessa A’zion) laments to her lover Trevor (Drew Starkey) that she’s strapped for cash after the latest blowout fight with her brother Matt (Brandon Flynn). Matt’s skepticism about Trevor and...

Hulu’s Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, will debut in the U.S. exclusively on Hulu on October 7, which means we’re just about one week away from the return of the franchise. Jamie Clayton is playing the iconic Hell Priest in the new movie, a fresh new take on the character played by Doug Bradley in the past.
Clayton explains in a new interview, “This film’s version of the Priest is now a woman, which takes the burden off the audience of trying to compare the performance to Doug Bradley’s iconic portrayal of this character, lovingly known by the fans as Pinhead. There’s a sensuality to her. There’s a grace, there’s a beauty. And a hunger and a desire.”
Jamie Clayton also talks about the intense makeup process that turned her into the Hell Priest for...

At this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, filmmaker Rebekah McKendry celebrated the world premiere of her latest project, Glorious, which will be debuting on Shudder exclusively on August 18th. Starring Ryan Kwanten, Glorious follows the down-in-the-dumps Wes into a remote rest stop bathroom where he’s confronted by an unimaginable entity lurking behind a glory hole of all places.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with McKendry about her experiences working on Glorious, and during our conversation, she discussed how the project was indeed a product of the pandemic, just not in the typical ways. McKendry also chatted about collaborating with Kwanten on Glorious, the amazing practical effects created by Josh and Sierra Russell for the film, and more.
Great to speak with you today, Rebekah. I was already all in for Glorious because I really feel like Ryan Kwanten is one of these actors who's super underappreciated...

Having just left prison for setting her ex-boyfriend, serial killer James (Cole Vigue), on fire Mary (Vanessa Grasse) gets a job in an all night gas station. Still haunted by hallucinations, on her first night she begins seeing James around many corners, but there are more dangers in Mary’s first shift than her imagination.
The concept of Padraig Reynolds’ screenplay suggests something more morally complex than your standard issue slasher. He sets up a final girl who isn’t as easy to root for as the genre’s usual heroine, not only did she set someone on fire, but we discover that she has been shunned by the community for simply standing by and watching while her ex murdered several women. This could throw open a lot of ideas; allowing the film to engage with coercive and abusive relationships and the trauma that results from them, the immense pressure...

The new video from thrash metal legends Anthrax, Blood Eagle Wings, is so ghoulishly gory you’ll never believe yer eerie eyeballs (and you can see it below, my creeps!) So naturally I had to send out an invite via carrier crow for the clips die-rector Jack Bennett to join us for a lil’ convo in the Crypt o’ Xiii, and wadda ya know, here he is now!
Famous Monsters. Let’s get right down to brass tacks, Jack! How did the story for Blood Eagle Wings evolve? Jack Bennett. It just began with Scott Ian sending me the song and saying it was about how civilizations evolve throughout history on a foundation of violence. He only had two stipulations about the video; he didn’t want it to be performance-based, so no band playing the song, and there had to be someone actually blood eagle’d onscreen, which I had to look up.

On a dark and rainy day, I drove up the twisting Hollywood hills to visit the set of Utero, a new horror film produced by and starring Jessica Cameron, the queen of screams who dominated the festival circuit last year with a dementedly twisted game of truth or dare.
What I found when I got there was a passionate and energetic cast and crew fueled by energy drinks, energy shots, coffee, and energy bars. There was so much caffeine on set that it seemed to seep into the air so that I felt like I got a caffeine buzz just from breathing.
Of course, in reality my buzz didn't come from imaginary airborne caffeine, but from my close proximity to scream queen Jessica Cameron. Jessica was as beautiful as ever in her costume, a grey bathrobe covered in blood and green vomit. She has a...
