The stars of Criminal Minds are very versatile. When they aren’t profiling serial killers on-screen, many of them are behind the cameras, directing their fellow cast members. Over the years, Criminal Minds has aired more than 30 episodes directed by cast members. That includes Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna, and more. Here’s a complete list of episodes directed by the stars.

Adam Rodriguez joined the cast of Criminal Minds as Luke Alvez in season 12. Not long after his debut on the series, Rodriguez put his past directing experience to use by taking the lead on two episodes. Then, when Criminal Minds returned for the revival (a.k.a. season 16), he directed another episode.

Serial killers tend to get nicknames based on what they do to their victims, and the season-long UnSub on Criminal Minds: Evolution, the Paramount+ revival of the long-running CBS procedural drama, is no different. The 16th season (with new episodes dropping Thursdays) of the profilers of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) sees the agents hunting down Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) and his network of serial killers. It all started when Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) was called to the scene of a storage container; the victims inside were all killed in various ways. And the UnSub, now known as Sicarius, has not repeated himself. But it’s one of his kills that has led to his nickname: The UnSub poured incredibly poisonous Sicarius spiders down a victim’s throat. And so when TV Insider spoke with the stars of Criminal Minds: Evolution, we asked them what their UnSub names would...

For the cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution, shooting Paramount+’s limited series felt “very much the same, but different,” Joe Mantegna tells TVLine in the cast video above. “It was” — wait for it — “an evolution.”

As a title, Criminal Minds: Evolution refers not just to how a new UnSub upped his game during the pandemic, but also the changes that the series itself has undergone for its rebirth on Paramount+.
Reporting thus far on Criminal Minds: Evolution has regularly labeled it a “revival,” but having screened the first two episodes (of 10), I can attest that, yes, it is that. And then some. We catch back up with friendly faces still solving crime for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, but the very familiar, predictable rhythms of the 42-minute procedural that aired on CBS for 15 seasons/320-plus episodes are gone,...

Very few procedural crime dramas have stood the test of time — the CBS series "Criminal Minds" concluded its incredible 15-season run in 2020 and has already received a revival order from the streamer Paramount+. Like showrunner-producer-writer Erica Messer said during the Television Critics Tour (via Deadline), the team behind "Criminal Minds" never wanted the show to end, and now they're coming back.
The crime drama told the story of a group of accomplished criminal profilers who worked for the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit and used their expertise to unearth the country's most dangerous minds, anticipating their next move before they could strike once again. The "Criminal Minds" revival, titled "Criminal Minds: Evolution," has already created an incredible buzz with audiences, thanks to six original cast members who are returning for the show. In August 2022, Paramount+ shared the revival's official title and some cast details about what to look forward to, and...

Don’t worry Criminal Minds fans: Members of the Bau who aren’t currently on board for Paramount+‘s sequel series Criminal Minds: Evolution aren’t “gone gone,” showrunner Erica Messer promised during the virtual Television Critics Association panel on September 21. “Our hope is that the team members that we ended the series with on CBS will be able to come back and play at some point,” she shared. While Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), A.J. Cook (Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), and Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss) are all back, Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid) and Daniel Henney (Matt Simmons) are not. “It’s a little bit more of a mystery what Reid and Simmons are up to. But they’re certainly not forgotten. Dr. Reid and I believe Matt Simmons’ desks are still there, still have stuff on it.

When CBS’ crime drama Criminal Minds clinched another last minute renewal over the weekend, the number of episodes was not revealed with speculation that the veteran series may be getting a 13-episode final season.
When CBS today unveiled its 2018-19 lineup this morning, Criminal Minds again was on the fall schedule in its most recent Tuesday 10 Pm slot, which would suggest a possible full-season pickup.
At CBS’ upfront press breakfast, the network’s entertainment president Kelly Kahl said that the exact order size for Criminal Minds has not been determined. (It is expected to be somewhere between 13-22 episodes.)
Will Season 14 be Criminal Minds‘ last? “Never say never with a show like Criminal Minds,” Kahl told Deadline, noting that the crime drama has “a very passionate audience.”
While the core cast of Criminal Minds is already locked in for next season, they will have to make new deals for a potential fifteenth season.

It came down to the wire, but Criminal Minds has been renewed!
CBS skipped the Black Friday purge and opted instead to share their news on Saturday.
There are no details about the renewal, but it does come in conjunction with the renewals of Man With a Plan, Instinct, and Life in Pieces, as well as the cancellations of Scorpion and Superior Donuts.
The renewal means Criminal Minds will be celebrating its 300th episode with the upcoming season premiere.
That's a huge achievement and one that has come amidst many casting changes and with a lot of worry about what might come next for the series.

As usual, the renewal of veteran crime drama Criminal Minds came down to the wire with CBS and lead studio ABC Studios going back and forth on terms. Making things less complicated this time was the fact that all Criminal Minds veteran cast members already had deals for next season.
Also as usual, CBS is not confirming the size of the order or any other details. There had been speculation that the network may renew Criminal Minds for a final 13-episode season but for now, that is just speculation. We will get a better sense when CBS releases its schedule on Wednesday morning.
After a long run at 9 Pm, Criminal Minds moved to 10 Pm this season. It has improved the time period and is doing well in delayed viewing.
