Casting director Geoff Josselson just checked off a major bucket list item. When he was asked what show he dreamed of casting, he would say “Into the Woods.” And just last year, working with Telsey Casting, Josselson was part of the team that assembled the heralded Broadway revival starring Sara Bareilles, Brian D’Arcy James and Joshua Henry. Pittsburgh Public Theatre is currently casting Equity actors for two roles in its upcoming production of “Equus,” the drama by Peter Shaffer, which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1975. Headed by casting directors Pat McCorkle and Katja Zarolinski (McCorkle Casting), the team will hold by-appointment auditions in New York City on June 14 and 15. The first, Alan Strang, is a 17-year-old, working-class British man, who commits an “act of horrific violence” by blinding six horses and is subsequently committed to a mental hospital for observation. Backstage University is starting the week off with two great guests on Monday. First we have an on-camera class with Jenny Ravitz, the casting associate for two hot NBC shows, “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” Ravitz will be working with actors to hone their audition techniques for the camera. Also on Monday, we have an agent seminar with Lynne Jebens of The Krasny Office. Jebens will be meeting with actors individually and seeing contemporary monologues. She is an industry stalwart and we are proud to be hosting her for her first event with us. On Tuesday we have an agent seminar with Lisa Price, owner of The Price Group.
