The hosts Malaga went into this match in fifth place but with a game in hand as Real Betis had won earlier in the day to go three points clear in the Champions League qualifier spot. The visitors Barcelona, on the other hand, have romped to the top of La Liga in the last few months and were 11 points ahead of Atletico Madrid in 2nd place. Although Malaga played quite well and restricted Barcelona to few chances; the champions-elect were clinical and Messi, Fabregas and Thiago made no mistake to give their team a comfortable win. Diego Buonanotte pulled one back with a late free-kick which Malaga deserved as they had played well. But overall, Barcelona deserved the win.
Line-ups;
Malaga (4-5-1) – Willy Caballero, Sergio Sanchez, Martin Demichelis, Weligton, Nacho Monreal, Joaquin Sanchez (Francisco Portillo 83’), Ignacio Camacho, Isco, Jeremy Toulalan (Manuel Iturra 69’), Eliseu (Diego Buonanotte 62’), Roque Santa Cruz

Chicago – Juan Antonio Bayona’s “The Impossible” captures what its title implies. It transports us to an unimaginable situation, into an absolute nightmare in which air is replaced by rushing water, families are ripped apart, and people’s lives hang in the balance. It is a remarkable achievement in filmmaking, a film that is at times devastating, at times emotional, at times inspirational, and always riveting. It’s one of the best films of 2012.

This true story is of a privileged family who uses their wealth to go to one of the most gorgeous vacation spots in the world for Christmas. They enjoy the lush scenery, open gifts on the veranda of their four-figure-a-night room, and play on the beach. Henry (Ewan McGregor) is the nervous type, the kind who worries repeatedly on the plane that he didn’t lock the front door. Maria (Naomi Watts) is stronger but...

Unlike some films that have become critics’ darlings, The Impossible has no pretensions. It isn’t edgy and I don’t think it has a hidden subtext. It’s just a beautifully told, enormously moving story of a family’s experiences during and after the 2004 tsunami that hit a holiday resort in Thailand. Shorn of the contrivances we associate with Hollywood disaster movies, The Impossible recreates an unthinkable event and its aftermath with breathtaking—and heartbreaking—credibility. Director J.A. Bayona and screenwriter Sergio Sanchez capture both the big picture and the small moments that transform a catastrophe into a life-changing experience for...

Guillermo del Toro, who knows how to spot talent, helped to push J.A. Bayona's 2007 smart horror Spanish Oscar entry "The Orphanage" into an international smash hit ($79.6 million). The same trio behind that movie, Bayona, Nyu-educated screenwriter Sergio Sanchez and producer Belen Atienza, became fascinated by the true story of a Spanish family who survived the 2004 tsunami that swept over the coast of Thailand, causing some 5000 deaths. Atienza was so moved by a radio interview with Maria Belon, who fought to live for the sake of her young son, that she arranged a meeting. Soon the entire team became obsessed with this survival saga. First, Sanchez wrote a screenplay for "The Impossible" in Spanish--which was mostly in Engish because that's how the multi-national tourists in Thailand communicated with each other. Translated into English, the script for "The Impossible" (December 21) lured top stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, joined...
