Artist, photographer, filmmaker, designer, director, painter...if it
involves visual storytelling, Joshua Howard is probably involved
somehow. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, grew up in Atlanta, GA,
lived in Kentucky for several years, headed up to Philadelphia to work as a producer and cinematographer with an indie film studio and now runs his own production company in Savannah, GA. While living in Lexington, KY, Joshua began his
career in the arts. He worked in the editorial photography field and
ran successful commercial photo and production studios. He also served
as senior designer and photographer at a leading advertising firm.
In 2009, Joshua was named a National Geographic Explorer for his twelve-month photo project and twenty-minute documentary film that he directed on the topic of mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. His photography and video work is now represented by The National Geographic Image Collection. Joshua's environmental project in Appalachia, which showcased the importance of watershed health in the region, led to him photographing a three week National Geographic archaeological expedition in Honduras and assisting a veteran photographer on an underwater photo shoot in Florida & in the Chesapeake that appeared in National Geographic Magazine in the fall of 2012. He is passionate about conservation issues that focus on protecting and documenting our world's oceans, lakes, and river systems and spends as much time in and around the water as possible. Joshua is a National Geographic photo and filmmaking instructor and spends time each summer leading expeditions to locales such as Australia and Belize honing his students skills in some of the most remote and spectacular environments on the planet.
Joshua is an award-winning underwater photographer and cinematographer and a professional scuba instructor, who has trained with both PADI and the Global Underwater Explorers, allowing him to be as comfortable shooting below the waves as he is on dry land. He is a tech and cave diver so he has the skill set to get to where the action is. He has also developed an underwater cinematography program at Asbury University and taught there in the fall of 2014.
In 2012, Joshua became one of four partners and owners of Red Flight Pictures, a multi-award winning independent film company based in Philadelphia. He served as Producer, Director, Director of Photography, Screenwriter and Editor for numerous award winning projects during his tenure with Red Flight.
In 2015 he moved back to Georgia, to Savannah, where he started his own production and camera rental company, Rally Horse Production House, which now serves all of the southeast including Atlanta and South Carolina markets. He has written several short screenplays and is finishing his first feature screenplay.
