Born in 1945, Robert L Mitchell began acting in high school. In 1967 he was studying architecture when his draft status was changed from a student deferment to 1-A. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed helicopter flight school in December of 1967. He served as a combat helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War, and was discharged from the army in June of 1970. He spent the subsequent 12-years on an odyssey of transformation so that he could reintegrate in civilian society. His two book memoir of this odyssey was published in 2011 and 2012. He is working on adapting book one of this memoir to a film script.
For the following 27-years, he taught secondary school, math English, history and art. His bachelor degree is in mathematics and his post graduate work in Education and The History of Consciousness. His doctoral thesis was published in 2005.
During his teaching career he continued to work in community theater. Upon retiring from teaching he became a professional actor with credits in print and video commercials; network television; short films and theater.
