Stacey Nation
- Director
- Writer
- Second Unit Director or Assistant Director
Stacey Nation's journey in the realm of visual storytelling began in commercial production nearly a decade ago, running promos, episodics, and ads as a 1st AD for entertainment powerhouses like Netflix, Disney, HBO Max, and NBC.
Her directorial debut -- the stunning, black & white, poetic short film "The Wagon" -- swept in (7) awards, including "Best Woman Filmmaker" at the 2018 Los Angeles International Film Festival Awards, and secured a Mid-America Emmy nomination. Told entirely without dialogue, the film uses the language of visuals set against the backdrop of a small Midwestern town, showcasing Stacey's emerging voice as writer/director and her ability to navigate themes of family drama, loss, and the enduring human spirit.
Shot on 35MM and set in her rural hometown, her second short film -- "The Return" (2021) -- delved deeper into narratives shaped by rural landscapes and blighted areas. This project, along with the "The Wagon," laid the groundwork for the feature film she has written, now in-development, which poignantly explores resilience in the face of adversity, injustice, and poverty.
Whether directing a narrative work, broadcast commercial, or branded film, Stacey blends a sense of style with a keen directorial eye to tell stories that linger in minds long after they're seen. Known as a 'producer's director,' she navigates the creative process with a mindful and intuitive eye on budget and schedule. Her sets are characterized by their warmth and ambition, and she excels at drawing out performances from actors of all ages, particularly children, even under complex scheduling constraints.
Residing in Los Angeles, Stacey Nation's true north is her unwavering commitment to grit, boundless imagination, and an enduring passion for visual storytelling as she logs days toward her entry into the DGA.
