Nine weeks, a ton of performances and one winner. Unlike previous weeks of "Duets," we won't know the results until the end of the night. Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles -- the only superstars still left with their amateurs -- sing a rendition of "Would I Lie To You." Despite Kelly's casual black flats, the performance was still spicy and I couldn't be happier to watch the female superstars sing. After the performance, Quddus gives us a rundown of the show: All the amateurs (including those voted off) have come back, the final three will give one last performance, and at the end of the night, America will have its winner.
The show brings back Bridget Carrington, the last female amateur standing to sing with her duet partner John Legend. The pair sing The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" and Bridget sure showed America who they voted off. I didn't...

If there was a prize for professional partners on "Duets" (Thu., 8 p.m. Et on ABC), then that would surely go to Jennifer Nettles. The Sugarland vocalist scored two of the three finalists in the show's inaugural season finale. The third slot went to Kelly Clarkson, and third is where Jason Farol would stay.
Nettles outlasted the competition as both of her amateur partners wound up as the top two contenders for the crown. It created a bittersweet moment for both John Glosson and J Rome as while they both wanted to win, they also were happy to see Team Nettles representing so strong in the finale.
In the final moments, host Quddus announced that J Rome had won the season, and the Hollywood Records contract that went along with it.
Now all that remains for fans is to hope and wonder if the show will come back for a second season next summer.

Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles went toe-to-toe on the finale of Duets, but only one would take home the top prize tonight with their respective partners.

"Duets" crowned its first ever winner Thursday night (July 19). It came down to J Rome and John Glosson, both contestants of Jennifer Nettles, and Jason Farol, Kelly Clarkson's contestant. So who won the recording contract?
In what should come as a surprise to no one, J Rome took the crown. He was on top of the leaderboard all season long and turned in some outstanding performances, so it was a well-deserved win.
Glosson took second, which is not a surprise either. Nettles really found herself two good singers to partner with. Their final song, "For Good," was excellent. Farol took third, which is a good showing for him, as he started off the season a little shaky.
What did you think, "Duets" fans? And do you see the show returning next summer?...

It was a man's world on tonight's finale episode of Duets. As the show's first season came to an end, viewers saw J Rome and John Glosson of Team Jennifer Nettles and Jason Farol from Kelly Clarkson's team duke it out to be crowned the first winner. Here's what happened... After bringing back some of the old competitors to sing songs with their duet coaches, it was time for the final three guys to give it all they had. Nettles and Glosson hit the stage first with Broadway musical Wicked's song "For Good." To say that the performance went well would be an understatement. Glosson was more than capable of keeping up with Nettles' vocals, making it...

Well, it's been an exciting season on Duets, and tonight it all comes to a close as a winner is crowned. With only three singers left in the competition - John Glosson, J Rome and Jason Farol - it's anyone's guess who will take home the final prize (though our money is on Glosson). Stick with Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out who will be victorious and which singers will go home empty-handed.
20:58Will this show have another season? Was it just a weird summer filler? Who can say, but the journey was fun while it lasted! 20:58And the winner is... J Rome! Well, I think we all sort of saw that coming. Hopefully John gets a recording contract, as well (I can't imagine he won't). He's overjoyed and can't even speak, and Jennifer is also super proud. The show closes out with him singing his...

Some folks might gripe that Duets is yet another reality singing competition that’s guaranteed to produce a male winner — yeah, there’s not a lady to be found in the Final 3 — but I’ve got a bigger gripe with ABC’s low-wattage summer series: Of the six songs covered during the show’s Season 1 (Season Only?) performance finale, there’s not one that hadn’t been previously covered on American Idol or The Voice.
I know, I know…this kind of “crime” probably only matters to a handful of reality-competition junkies like myself, but given that Duets hasn’t...

So here we go... who's going to go home, and which of the final four will impress? The amateurs take to the stage - they're all still hoping to get that recording contract with Hollywood Records, but not all of them can win! First to find out his fate is Jason Farol... and he's safe! So are J Rome and John Glosson, leaving our female contestants Olivia Chisholm and Bridget Carrington in the bottom two. "We'll...

Contestant Olivia Chisolm said her good-byes on Thursday's (July 5) episode of ABC's "Duets," becoming the first audience-voted cast-off following her performance last week of Beyonce's hit "Halo" with partner Robin Thicke.
"I'm just thankful that I got this far in the competition," Chisolm tells Zap2It. "Now that the competition is actually over, I can look back on everything that I need to work on, and everything that I've done, and get better."
Considering what Thicke says was his best advice to the young ingénue -- "shake your booty" -- the budding songstress takes with her a lot of momentum and feels she now has the world to charm and impress.
And her cohort agrees.
"She has a lot of class, a lot of humility and a lot of ambition which is a good combination," Thicke points out. "It means she can be a good learner, and she's a great tryer.

Remember that time a suddenly blonde Kelly Clarkson covered “Freedom ’90″ and you went out of your mind with elation? Okay, that was last night on ABC’s Duets, and by “you,” I actually mean “me.” Plus, Kelly was actually part of a quartet with her fellow mentors Jennifer Nettles, John Legend, and Robin Thicke. But still, it was a brilliant move on the part of the show’s producers for the first live episode of the season: Reminding reality TV fans that Duets can deliver a weekly dose of the original American Idol is as obvious and easy as a...

So after saying goodbye to Jordan on last week's episode of Duets, things are getting serious - the show's going live and it's time for America to have their say! There's time for the judges to perform George Michael's 'Freedom', and then Quddus congratulates Jennifer on the news of her pregnancy - "She's going to be such an amazing mother." Jennifer also has another thing to shout about - she still has two acts in the competition! Seems only fair we start with her, then... John Glosson - 'When You Say You Love Me' (Josh Groban) John had a chance to go home this week, which he says was "cool on one hand", though it felt strange being back. Still, it was great to see how many people were supporting him - "It makes it a little more nervewracking!" Anyway, John and Jennifer get down to rehearsals, (more)...

Memo to Duets‘ “superstar” mentors: Please stop telling each week’s Bottom 2 contestants that it doesn’t matter if they get booted, that their participation on ABC’s summer reality series is only the beginning of their careers in the music biz. Sure, such soothing talk cushions the blow of elimination (or near-elimination) and it may even be true, but as a viewer, it adds to the low-stakes vibe that’s pervaded this show ever since it tossed the first two weeks of scores into the dumpster (right next to Gcb) and never mentioned ‘em again.

Things are getting serious - after this episode of Duets, we'll have our final five and the show goes live next week! So if ever the pressure was high, it's now. Nobody wants to miss out on America's votes! The theme for this week's show is the pretty self-explanatory Movie Night - big songs from big movies. Quddus kicks off proceedings by asking Jennifer Nettles how she's kept her acts out of the bottom two so far - she says she has talented contestants and there's "joy" on stage every time. Well, let's see - she's up first! John Glosson John and Jennifer agree that he might not be to Robin's "taste", but they won't let that stop them! They're going to perform 'My Heart Will Go On' - big song - and Jennifer's just focused on getting him to the live stages for America's (more)...

This week's performances on "Duets" brought us straight to the movies -- with one not-so-happy ending for an amateur. Our trustee host, Quddus reminds the viewers that next week, the show goes live. The superstars do their best to get the best five out on the stage for America -- because clearly we know better than four award-winning artists. Let's go to the movie performances!
John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles
"My Heart Will Go On"
"Titanic" was a drama, but Jennifer and John were all laughs while rehearsing for this ballad. Robin had a problem with John's dance moves last week, so John suggests a little baton twirling? He was kidding (thank goodness), but John and Jennifer nailed the song's emotion, even earning another one of Kelly's love/hate comments: "I can't stand you." Robin loved that he "sings from his heart," which led to Jennifer's "Thanks, boo." John thought it was fabulous.

For Movie Night on "Duets," Jennifer Nettles and partner J Rome took on a big one - Whitney Houston's huge hit "I Will Always Love You" from "The Bodyguard." (She had previously tackled Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" with partner John Glosson, so you gotta hand it to Nettles - she's got balls).
But for the fifth week in a row, J Rome ended up at the top of leaderboard and this week it was 100% earned. He blew the doors off the place with his solo moments on "Always Love You" and Nettles' harmonies were great too.
The judges had nothing but good things to say. What did you think, "Duets" fans? Was he easily the best of the night?...

Duets is a little like the lamb chop I had for dinner last night: Perfectly lovely summer weeknight fare, but with tiny morsels that get stuck in your teeth and drive you loopy hours after the meal is over.
Central to the show’s irksomeness is the wretched/”secret” scoring system where the three judges not on stage anonymously enter not one, but two scores for the fourth judge’s amateur partner — is it my imagination, or was the announcement of separate scores for “performance” and “presentation” a new development in the show’s ongoing, haphazard evolution? After that, the...

If you just tuned in to ABC’s Duets for the first time this week, congratulations! Because apparently, those of us who wasted our time on Episodes 1 and 2 were actually watching some sort of meaningless preliminary rounds that won’t have any impact on the competition.
If that’s not the case, then shame on ABC nonetheless. After all, if the judges’ “secret scores” from Rounds 1 and 2 were somehow factored in to this week’s leaderboard, then why not just say so? And if Thursday night’s leaderboard really was a three-week average, we also needed to know: Was it...

For Inspirational Songs week on "Duets," John Glosson and partner Jennifer Nettles performed "How Great Thou Art," which Glosson said was the song his mom heard the day she found out she was pregnant with him, which was the day before she lost her oldest son at the age of 8 to leukemia. So that made for an emotional performance.
We thought John and Jennifer were definitely one of the best of the night and could've finished right on top, though it's really a personal preference toss-up between him and J Rome. But this one was our favorite.
Would you have picked up the phone to vote for John if the live public voting was happening already? We think he would've been pretty safe.
