"Who is Matilda Wormwood if not Carrie White without religious trauma?" This is a joke I made when interviewing "Abigail" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for the /Film Daily podcast after complimenting them on their decision to cast Netflix's "Matilda the Musical" star Alisha Weir as their titular ballerina vampire. "Matilda" is one of author Roald Dahl's most beloved characters, offering children both the fantastical wish-fulfillment of having telekinetic superpowers, as well as the ever-important message that reading is cool. The 1988 novel has been adapted multiple times across various media, most notably the 1996 feature film directed by Danny DeVito and starring Mara Wilson, the two-part BBC Radio 4 special, the stage musical featuring music by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly, and the Netflix film adaptation of said musical.

Daniel Scott-Smith stars as Crabfeeder, as seen in Episode 2 of House of The Dragon. Pic credit: HBO/Ollie Upton
Episode 3 of House of the Dragon delved further into the conflict at the Stepstones.
This conflict involving the Triarchy had been simmering away under the surface throughout all of Episode 1 of the hit epic fantasy series.
While King Viserys (Paddy Considine) seemed to hold little interest in the spat over a small stretch of land between Westeros and Essos, Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) was very worried about it.
So much so, in fact, that he went behind the king’s back and called on Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) to help him defeat the Triarchy, headed by a character called Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith).
Crabfeeder was a super creepy-looking character that seemed entirely intent on controlling the Stepstones and making it hard — and very expensive — for anyone trying to travel through the region.

When I first heard that there was a character on "House of the Dragon" named the Crabfeeder, I was pumped. This guy disposes of his victims by tying them up on the beach and letting a bunch of crabs slowly kill his victims — sounds like a nasty bugger who would make for an interesting antagonist for the series. At the end of episode 2, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Touissant) decide to go to war with the Crabfeeder, so I fully expected for this character to be a major part of the show. My expectations were for naught.
Basically, the entire war between the two factions takes place off-screen, and the Crabfeeder is unceremoniously dispatched without ever so much as saying a word of dialogue. All we are left with is a pretty cool character design and our imagination. His look does make "Game of Thrones" fans ask a lot of questions.

A House of the Dragon actor has confirmed a fan theory about his mysterious character
Daniel Scott-Smith made his debut in episode two of the Game of Thrones prequel as Crabfeeder, and had a big showdown with Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen in the latest instalment, which aired on Sunday (4 September).
Shortly after the episode, it was noted that Crabfeeder, real name Craghas Drahar, had an intriguing link to the original series.
The link came in the form of his mask, the same one worn by the Sons of the Harpy, who challenged the rule of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clake).
Scott-Smith discussed the costume with Entertainment Weekly, stating: “It was definitely a nod to that for, I guess, the fans, because it’s something familiar for them.

By now, many parts of adapting “Game of Thrones” from page to screen has become television production lore. For example, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had initially won over George R.R. Martin to let them adapt his books by telling him the true identity of Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) mother, even though it hadn’t been revealed in the books yet. But the clues were all there for devotees of the novels.
And then there’s the matter of the three twists. Back in a 2016 interview with EW, the showrunners said that Martin had sat down with them to give a general outline of the rest of his unwritten novels since the show had surpassed the books plotwise in Season 6. As part of this rough sketch, he revealed three “holy shit” moments. Two have already come to pass: The burning of Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram...

“Bitterness, really” is Paul Kaye’s explanation of what drove his satirical red-carpet interviewer Dennis Pennis in the nineties. “I’d hit thirty, I’d sort of failed as a musician, I’d failed as an artist I felt at the time.” Ambushing Hollywood’s elite in the persona of a brash, punk nuisance wasn’t Kaye’s first choice for stardom, he admits. “It wasn’t how I expected to forge a career. [Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” Season 7 through Episode 6.]
The best thing and the worst thing that can happen in the “Game of Thrones” finale is one and the same: A major character dies.
From the fan fiction coupling of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenarys (Emilia Clarke) to back-to-back dragon battles with no notable (human) casualties, the truncated penultimate season has offered much in the way of elegant spectacle and little in the way of emotional resonance. It’s also been agonizingly predictable. Arya’s (Maisie Williams) opening assassination of House Frey may be the most successful surprise, and even her revelation felt inevitable as soon as the wine came out.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from the season six premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones.] Winter is coming, but few people in Westeros are preparing for the storm. Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) is one of the rare exceptions, more aware than most of the ice-cold menace known as the White Walkers. The Onion Knight, a mainstay on HBO's Game of Thrones beginning with the second season, knows the true enemy facing the Seven Kingdoms — if not quite how to handle the threat. In Davos' defense, the man has a lot on his plate. First, he lost Stannis (Stephen Dillane) and Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram),

A bold new era has begun on "Game of Thrones". We are now (with a few exceptions) all on the same page. The major events book readers have kept under wraps for as long as they could, have played out on screen. With much of season five carrying the trend of diverting from the novels towards downright invention, the discussion surrounding the show has become more complex. Now that the show has delivered on many of this season's promises, there is a lot to talk about. No one will consider "Mother's Mercy" an optimistic or hopeful episode and Stannis (Stephen Dillane) sets the tone. After his horrific actions seem to have paid off in the form of a thaw, he is quickly dealt three massive blows that could only be interpreted as cosmic retribution. His men have abandoned him, his wife has abandoned him, and his lord has abandoned him...

Six. Six Game of Thrones characters died in the season 5 finale, "Mother's Mercy." And one of those deaths marks arguably the show's greatest character loss yet (we felt every gut stab). Game Of Thrones was equal parts thrilling and anguishing this week. Here's Ron's The Dance Of Dragons review...
This review contains spoilers.
5.9 The Dance Of Dragons
When you have a show as good as last week's episode of Game of Thrones, it's going to be hard to top. I thought Hardhome was flawlessly executed, exciting, well-staged, featured great-looking special effects, and did a wonderful job of adding character to a bunch of wildlings we've never met before so that we cared when they were inevitably killed by the White Walkers. Without a lot of familiar characters to lean on, the show pulled off a staggering high-wire act that resulted in a thrilling hour of television.
In that sense, The Dance of Dragons has a lot to do to meet that high water mark, and maintain the tradition that the ninth episode of a season is the best episode of the season.

It seems as if someone is always complaining that Game Of Thrones has "gone too far" for whatever reason, but last night's penultimate season 5 episode really was hard to stomach. In fact, it was probably the most disturbing, heartbreaking moment of the show's entire run so far - and yes, that includes the Red Wedding. Convinced by Melisandre that the only way he'll defeat his enemies and sit on the Iron Thrones is by offering up a king's blood sacrifice to the Red God, Stannis Baratheon does the unimaginable and burns his own daughter alive. In a world populated by some very bad people, Shireen (Kerry Ingram) was a genuine ray of light, and to see (well, hear) her suffer and die like that was devastating. One man who's going to be profoundly affected by her loss is Davos Seaworth, who loved the greyscale-afflicted child like a daughter. Actor Liam Cunningham...

HBO’s Game of Thrones The Dance of Dragons TV Show Review. Game of Thrones: Season 5, Episode 9: The Dance of Dragons is the penultimate episode of season five. Instead of matching the visual spectacle of last week’s exceptional episode, The Dance of Dragon’s took viewers on a remarkable emotional journey that reached the exhilarating highs and soul crushing lows that Game of Thrones is famous for.
Game of Thrones is the only series on the air that could spend an episode dancing along the precipice of murdering a child and have viewers not even doubt that said child will meet a gruesome end. This is a Game of Thrones recap I have wanted to write for a long time.
Dany (Emilia Clarke) escaping the Daznak fighting pit while riding Drogon is one of the most exciting and climactic moments in George R.R. Martin's novels.
And the death of Shireen (Kerry Ingram) – which is not in the novels – is one of the most horrifying sequences in the show's history (and something I've been privately obsessing over since first hearing about it).

The ninth episode of every season of "Game of Thrones" is the one people remember. The last four seasons gave us the fate of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the Battle of the Blackwater, the Red Wedding, and the Battle of the Wall. For season five, the memorable action-packed episode was delivered early in the form of "Hardhome", but "The Dance of Dragons" features an ending that should find its way into that pantheon. Before that ending, the show has a bit of business to take care of to set up the finale. In Dorne, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Prince Doran (Alexander Siddig) broker an unstable peace. Doran, again, recounts his horrendous experiences with war which serve to highlight why he is, seemingly, willing to do anything to prevent hostilities with King's Landing. He is even willing to let Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free) return with Jaime provided his son, Trystane (Toby Sebastian...

The episode's title is "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." Those are the words of House Martell. But I'm thinking the showrunners mean for us to think about those words while we process that final scene with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).
A few thoughts on the episode to get the conversation started ...
– We finally saw Sand Snakes in full action. Are they working for you?
– Arya (Maisie Williams) is back. Good to see her advance beyond witch-broom floor-sweeping and corpse sponge-bath duties.

There comes a moment in every episode of Game Of Thrones where I inevitably groan angrily at the television. That's when the episode goes to black and ends for the week. However, this week's episode of Game Of Thrones had a little fun with that black-out convention and used it to create a little narrative tension while still making me yell at the television over a potential cliff-hanger yet again.
Last week's cliff-hangers are resolved pretty quickly. Left bloody in an alley, Grey Worm and Barristan Selmy's fates are quickly sorted out this week by Bryan Cogman's script. Grey Worm lies in a sick bed, being tended to by Missandei, and Ser Barristan The Bold lies on a funeral bier,...

This week’s Throne Games, “The House of Black and White,” directed by Michael Slovis, continues the path of moving the pieces where they need to go in order to lay the groundwork for the action. You know you’re inured to “Game of Thrones” when an episode with a beheading, a dragon, a magical shape-shifter, and a tavern throwdown can be described as one of the more chill episodes, though there was at least one legitimately genuine surprise. The characters are slowly beginning to take their places for the season, and we’re continuing to see developments, particularly in the new generation of leaders (especially Jon Snow and Daenerys) who are stepping up to the plate, ready or not. Castle Black Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is dealing with the fallout from the Mance Raydar bonfire, and his decision to mercy kill the Wildling king. But those Baratheons are getting rather comfy at Castle Black,...

Dragons, child-kings, threats, boasts, amassed armies, Jon Snow, wolves, bears and much, much more can all be witnessed in today’s suspense-building new Game of Thrones promo. Power, ambition, desperation and malice can be felt dripping from this new trailer, which teases season 3. March 31st can’t get here quickly enough.

Game of Thrones is less than two weeks from returning to the small screen, with its HBO premiere set for 31st March. The acclaimed series has already essentially been confirmed for at least a fourth season beyond the upcoming third, and quite likely a good few seasons after that.
HBO have been doing a great job of gearing everyone up for the programme’s return, giving us a new extended trailer at the start of the month, followed by a set of a dozen character posters. And now they’ve released two new previews, giving us a taste of ‘War’ and ‘The Beast’.

HBO’s Game of Thrones has become one of the most popular TV shows in recent years, and naturally there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding its return in two and a half months’ time.
The programme continued to have a strong presence at the Emmys last year, sweeping up there and at plenty of other awards for its second season, and there’s plenty of reason to expect more of the same with the upcoming Season 3.
We saw the first teaser trailer and poster back in November, and now HBO have debuted another intriguing teaser, giving us a different approach by featuring no footage from the show itself.
The new season is expected to be based on roughly the first half of A Storm of Swords, the third novel in George R.R. Martin’s original A Song of Fire and Ice series.

If you’ve been watching USA’s Political Animals then you might see why the folks over at HBO’s Game of Thrones thought Ciarán Hinds would nicely as Mance Rayder, the “King Beyond the Wall” who presides over the Free Folk north of the Wall. In Animals, Hinds plays a Bill Clinton-George Bush hybrid womanizer who miraculously spent two terms as president despite his hard-living lifestyle and lack of common sense. But Hinds is not a stranger to leadership roles nor HBO. Fans of Rome may remember him as Gaius Julius Caesar and he’s shown up recently in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, John Carter, and The Debt. EW broke the news earlier today. If you’re not caught up with GoT, then beware of spoilers below.

The epic Hall H was the site of the epic Game of Thrones panel on the Friday of Comic-Con 2012. On the panel were Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark). Author George R. R. Martin served as moderator, and he did an admirable job with his questions for the cast and for executive producer Carolyn Strauss who was also on the panel. Kit Harington (Jon Snow) had been expected on the panel but was injured recently (don’t worry, it’s not supposed to affect his role in Season 3).
The panel began with Martin introducing this Season 2 recap featurette, followed by a new cast featurette:

More than ever, this year's San Diego Comic Con saw the big movie launches scaled back while television and video games moved to the fore. Dozens of panels took place for various and much loved TV shows, here's a breakdown of the key news, trailers and revelations from several of them:
Doctor Who
The upcoming season will shake up the formula, dropping the heavy arc elements in favour of a wider variety of episodes including ones set in the Old West (but shot in Spain), a visit with Nefertiti, and even dinosaurs in space.
Showrunner Steven Moffat says the big question left by last year's finale will be answered - “It's been there from the start. Other Time Lords have had names — he never gives his. Obviously the question is tremendously important and only I know why. We'll find out the truth." Moffat added that this season there'll be more...

She is the grandmother of the aristocrats Loras and Margaery Tyrell and the matriarch of the powerful Tyrell clan. (Nerds may already be aware that Rigg and her daughter are appearing in the upcoming season of "Doctor Who.")
Mackenzie Crook, best known for his roles on the U.K. version of "The Office" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," will play the wildling raider Orell, who, according to HBO, "is a 'warg' or 'skinchanger,' with the ability to enter the mind of an animal and control its actions.
