Even as Georgia became the first state to officially reopen some of its businesses, increasingly restive California residents defied lockdown orders to head to the beaches as temperatures hit the 90s.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom pleaded for social distancing in any gathering. The state had 115 fatalities from Wednesday to Thursday, with the statewide death toll now at 1,597. The state has a mandatory stay-at-home order since March 19.

Just two days after a wild interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper in which she argued that, despite the pandemic, her city needed to reopen to avoid catastrophic job losses, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman sought to clarify her logic.
In her interview Wednesday with Cooper, Goodman argued that with the shutdown of the city, many citizens “can’t even afford to get the groceries for their family because they have been out of work for six weeks.”

For years, TV networks faced criticism over their obsession with young viewers, which puts a premium on series with thirty- or forty-something leads. That obsession led to the demise of series like Harry’s Law, headlined by then-sixtysomething Kathy Bates, which was canceled by NBC despite being the network’s most watched drama series.
Gradually, with the rising importance of digital viewing where eyeballs are eyeballs, networks’ laser focus on adults 18-49 has been softening. And streaming platforms have started to specifically target older audiences with shows like Grace and Frankie.

Now there is a new, unexpected force threatening to dramatically cut representation of people of a certain age onscreen: the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, Jimmy Kimmel took a look at the days biggest viral moment, the wild, 25-minute interview CNN’s Anderson Cooper had with the mayor of Las Vegas, Carolyn Goodman. Among other things, Goodman advocated for reopening all of the city’s casinos and hotels so it could serve as a “control group” for the rest of the country, and kept saying weird things only to immediately deny having said them.
Cooper’s visibly exasperated reactions were as much a draw on social media as Goodman’s strange ideas. And so Jimmy Kimmel spent a chunk of his monologue going in on Goodman.
It’s a tough interview to describe without really going into detail, so if you missed this whole thing and wanna know what’s up, you can check out the full interview on CNN.com here. Or just watch the samplings that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” pulled up during the monologue,...

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was reduced to rubbing his eyes in frustrated disbelief Wednesday when the mayor of Las Vegas repeatedly stated that the city should reopen its casinos, despite evidence that doing so could cause a spike in coronavirus infections.
Carolyn Goodman appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 to promote a quick return to business as usual on The Strip. During the segment, she scoffed at Cooper’s concerns that encouraging tourists and others to fill the casinos would result in hundreds of thousands of people “smoking, drinking, touching slot machines, breathing circulated air.

Anderson Cooper had an extended interview on Wednesday with Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who is calling for casinos, hotels and restaurants to reopen in the city given the wrenching loss of jobs and revenue.
The CNN anchor, however, had a lot of questions over just how wise such a move would be at this moment and how it would work.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has made news of late for calling Nevada’s coronavirus shutdown “total insanity,” but following a Tuesday cable news interview, it’s Goodman’s sanity that should be questioned.
The Independent mayor made wild health assertions while making her case for a reopening of Vegas during an interview with MSNBC’s Katy Tur, saying, “What I assume is that everybody is a coronavirus carrier — that 100% of our population is asymptomatic, but a carrier.” Goodman continued, “My whole opinion is: get our people back to work.
