If the Vera-Vaughn sisters thought 2020 was a beast, just wait until they see what awaits them in the new year. TVLine has an exclusive first look at the trailer for Charmed‘s third season, a 30-second video full of ominous predictions for the all-powerful witches.
In addition to Macy reminding Mel and Maggie that “the destruction of the sisterhood is inevitable,” we also hear an unfamiliar voice warning, “To restore life to the magical world requires the greatest power — and the greatest sacrifice.” That same voice can be heard saying, “I’m afraid not even the Charmed Ones can survive the death of all magic.

Bear attacks and marauding hordes can’t rescue this dismal attempt to conjure up an epic medieval adventure
Say what you like about the artistic integrity of Game of Thrones, but at least it never skimped on the saucy stuff. Fall of a Kingdom pitches itself as “Game of Thrones meets Braveheart”, but lacks the redeeming feature that united both those sources of inspiration: entertainment value. It’s a dull historical action drama that is in desperate need of some gratuitous sex or violence to liven up its near two-hour running time.

The Charmed reboot is back for Season 2, this time with a new showrunner.
Carter Covington was replaced by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro for Charmed Season 2, and a new “creative direction” is being targeted for the trio of budding witches, with the series set to “lean harder into its supernatural storylines and less into the family dynamic” that formed the narrative anchor of season 1.
Kruger and Shapiro previously co-created Salvation for CBS and served as executive producers on the nixed Halle Berry-starring Extant. Elsewhere, they were behind USA Network’s Necessary Roughness, and Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce.

Good bad movies are hard to come by, but thank goodness for director David Mahmoudieh’s “See You Soon.” He and co-writer, co-producer and leading lady Jenia Tanaeva have crafted quite possibly the best bad movie of 2019. This stupidly sweet, albeit conventional romantic drama about two downhearted souls falling in love is unabashedly unafraid to embrace fantasy and lean into cheesy, gooey sentimentality. Steamier and sleeker than a Hallmark Channel movie, but with just as many idealized scenarios, it’s “so bad, it’s good” escapism at its finest.
World-famous U.S. soccer player Ryan Hawkes (Liam McIntyre) is on the verge of taking his team to the World Cup. His hard work and good looks have landed him a high-powered agent (Harvey Keitel), a gorgeous fiancée (Poppy Drayton) and a slew of multi-million-dollar endorsements. He’s an arrogant athlete whose lapse in judgement causes him to drive home drunk and distracted by Instagram.

"In two months - if you still feel the same, come find me in Saint Petersburg." Vertical Entertainment has released a trailer for an indie romance titled See You Soon, described as a modern day "Cinderella" story about a soccer star falling in love with a single mother from Russia - an homage to Leo McCarey’s An Affair To Remember. A U.S. soccer player suffers a career-threatening injury in an accident in the run-up to the World Cup, and during his recovery embarks on an epic romance. Liam McIntyre stars, with newcomer Russian actress Jenia Tanaeva as his love interest, plus a small cast including Harvey Keitel, Poppy Drayton, Oleg Taktarov, and Carla Abruzzo. This looks as cheesy and as cliche as you might expect, but the globe-spanning scope of it makes it worth a watch. And that bridge jump shot at the end is also worth it.

“There are no cheap parlor tricks here!” growls Locke (Armando Gutierrez), the cloak-swirling, goatee-twitching villain of Blake Harris and Chris Bouchard’s “The Little Mermaid,” providing such an easy way in for the disgruntled reviewer (and few will be gruntled) that it almost feels like a trap. Creaky visual effects, slapdash plotting and a script drunk on cliché: There’s pretty much nothing but cheap parlor trickery here.
The biggest trick of all, of course, is that though it feels like it was designed to capitalize on the confusion, this is neither the forthcoming Lin-Manuel Miranda-assisted Disney remake, nor Universal’s similarly titled, status-unknown project that formerly had Sofia Coppola and Chloë Grace Moretz attached. Nor does it bear much resemblance to the 1989 animated musical, or to the Hans Christian Andersen story that purportedly inspired all of the above. You might feel that Poppy Drayton’s name sounds familiar, but once you look her up you might still draw a blank if you haven’t been watching MTV or a few other networks in the past few years. She’s been a fairly constant presence thus far and has been building a career for the last six years, which is not a long time but is just enough to get noticed and really start to do something with herself. So far she’s been an elven princess and a mermaid, which are two of her most notable roles among the few she’s done.

The Little Mermaid, the live-action film inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale more than the Disney animated classic, has set an August 17 release date exclusively at more than 200 AMC Theatres nationwide via Freestyle Releasing. The Royals‘ William Moseley and Downton Abbey‘s Poppy Drayton star in the debut feature from Robert Molloy’s Kingsway Productions.
Written by Blake Harris and co-directed by Harris and Chris Bouchard, the fantasy-adventure follows a young girl who discovers a beautiful, enchanting woman she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid” of lore. Moseley is Cam Harrison, a young reporter following a big story about the mermaid (Drayton) and a magic healing water said to cure all. He travels with his sick niece (Loreto Peralta) to a small Mississippi town and uncovers a legend that’s as mysterious as the circus they find it in. Shirley MacLaine, Gina Gershon and Armando Gutierrez co-star.

Don’t worry folks, I’m completely messing with you. While this is 100% an actual trailer for a live action The Little Mermaid, it is Not the trailer for the Disney version which I should hope is just a tad better than this one looks. This is the other live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, based on Hans Christian Anderson’s original fairy tale. And to say that the trailer looks horrible would actually be paying this movie a compliment. What’s crazy is that there’s some decent star power in this film. The actually decent cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Poppy Drayton

This is not the Disney live action version of The Little Mermaid. There are no talking crabs or adorable neon colored fish. This is the other live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, based on Hans Christian Anderson’s original fairy tale. It looks… pretty much terrible, but maybe kind of wonderful? I don’t know. The setting (the circus in the South) and the apparent framing device (old person telling a story to younger relatives) do give me a sort of Big Fish vibe, which I love, but it also seems pretty much like a Feature Films for Families joint. I bet I would love it if I had grown up watching it without knowing it was bad, though. I still have affection for The Buttercream Gang after all.

“Beauty and the Beast” isn’t the only beloved Disney movie getting the live-action-remake treatment. Well, kind of: The upcoming “Little Mermaid” is being produced by Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions rather than Disney, but this new take on Hans Christian Andersen’s most famous fairy tale is heading to theaters all the same. Watch the trailer below.

“Once long ago in the deep blue below,” begins Shirley MacLaine to two youths who claim that mermaids don’t exist. “You wouldn’t say that if you’d met one,” she responds. Here, the mermaid (Poppy Drayton, “Downton Abbey”) is a circus performer known as the Mermaid of Mississippi whose plight inspires a little girl to not only believe in the underwater creatures of myth but attempt to free this one from her captivity.

Disney is systematically going through all of its animated classics and turning them into live-action movies, but the problem with that system is that it takes time. Beauty And The Beast isn’t even out yet, which means the “real” version of The Little Mermaid is still pretty far off. That’s where Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions—two companies with names that definitely sound real—come in. Seeing as how Hans Christian Andersen’s original story is in the public domain, these companies just went ahead and made their own Little Mermaid movie that you can watch while waiting for the one that will have actual famous people and a script co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. No offense to Shirley MacLaine, Poppy Drayton, and William Moseley, of course.

MTV's big-budget fantasy Terry Brooks adaptation, The Shannara Chronicles, will return for a second season...
MTV's glossy adaptation of Terry Brooks' Shannara series will live to pout another day. A second season of The Shannara Chronicles has been ordered by the channel.
Set in the fantasy realm of the Four Lands, decades after Earth as we know it destroyed itself, The Shannara Chronicles season one told a story of magic, elves, demons, druids (well, a druid) and important blue stones. There was also quite a lot of gratuitous showering involving its nubile young castmembers, if we recall.
Here's a link to our spoiler-filled reviews of the series, and an interview with Elf King himself, Mr John Rhys-Davies.
Good news then, for fans. Especially as the series really began to settle into its tone by the conclusion of season one, which starred Manu Bennett, Ivana Basquero, Austin Butler and Poppy Drayton.

The Shannara Chronicles ends season 1 on a characteristically uneven finale. Will MTV renew the show for season 2?
This review contains spoilers.
1.10 Ellcrys
As The Shannara Chronicles reaches its finale, it’s difficult to know which version of the show will turn up. Will it be the entertaining fantasy romp with a mature edge as demonstrated in Changeling and Pykon or the cheesy and cliché-ridden mess that typified episodes such as week eight’s Utopia? Perhaps fittingly, Ellcrys provides a little bit of both but ultimately delivers more of the former, ensuring an enjoyable, if flawed, ending to a show that has attracted derision and lukewarm praise in mostly equal measure.
The episode kicks things off with a less than stellar quasi-dream sequence featuring Amberle in conversation with a manifestation of the Ellcrys tree. The scene is designed to inform viewers of something book readers will only be...
