Ruston Jones grew up in New Mexico, where he gained a love of
photography while capturing images of the surrounding red rock
landscape.
From a young age, Ruston acted in Community Theater, fueling his love of story telling. In film school he discovered a talent for screen writing. He took every screen writing class that he could get into, experimenting with different styles and genres.
Ruston began his professional career in public television where he honed his directing, cinematography and editing skills. He began with Tales from the Trail, a hiking and mountain biking series. His work has also branched into such projects as a documentary about the fight against malaria in Ghana, a behind the scenes film of the Utah Shakespearean Festival's traveling company, an inside look at the Chechen warrior culture, animated films, commercials, educational films for several universities, and short films for museums, including the Museum of Utah Art and History.
Ruston's love of visual storytelling has combined with his love of travel. He has seen the world through a camera, filming all across the U.S., as well as in Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Mali, China, Russia, France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece.
Ruston wrote and directed "El Murciélago," a short horror film based on "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs. The film has been screened in film festivals, and has been nominated for numerous awards.
Ruston has continued to hone his craft as a screenwriter, constantly driven to put to paper the stories that take over his imagination. His fifth feature-length screenplay, "The Sword of the Golden City" is in development.
Ruston has a B.A. in film, and teaches advanced film editing at the university level.
