Vivek Ramaswamy, the tech entrepreneur and podcast host, called for the website BuzzFeed to cut staff and hire controversial commentators like former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
BuzzFeed, which raised hundreds of millions of dollars from investors in the early 2010s after it saw great success with viral stories across social networks, is under serious pressure as traffic platforms like Facebook and X decline.
The group’s shares tanked after it went public on the stock market in 2021.
Since BuzzFeed went public through a Spac, shares in the company decreased 92%, trading at $3 in recent days.
It laid off hundreds of staff, shuttered its award-winning news division in 2023 and sold off Complex Networks.
Even though the company has been struggling, it still operates The Huffington Post, Tasty, First We Feast and other prominent internet brands.
Ramaswamy now owns 8.3% of BuzzFeed after he revealed his investment last week.

There’s still nine months to go until the presidential election, and we’ve already reached peak talking points. At least, that was the contention from Bill Maher in his “New Rules” editorial on Friday’s Real Time.
“It gets so dull hearing these talking points,” Maher lamented, running down a list of common complaints about the economy and other issues. “The American dream is dead because Mars bars were $1 and are now $1.25,” he noted as one example of the hyperbole he abhors.
While Maher allowed that he wouldn’t choose President Joe Biden as his partner for the Squid Game, he ran through a list of things that are going well at the moment, from the economy to home ownership to energy output.
Yet, “I know what you hacks on both sides will say before they say it,” he said.
He asked, “Is it really healthy to blame every problem on Joe Biden?...

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy made waves again on Sunday in response to CNN commentator Van Jones‘ recent criticism of him.
Jones had referred to Ramaswamy as a “demagogue” in a previous on-air discussion and expressed concern about what he perceived as the rise of an American demagogue.
When Ramaswamy, 38, appeared at Turning Point USA’s Americafest in Arizona, he didn’t hold back in his reply to Jones.
He directly addressed Jones’ characterization, “And then you get the mainstream media, you got this character Van Jones on CNN afterward saying, ‘This is the rise of an American demagogue who’s gonna live 50 years longer than Trump. This is dangerous, I am shaking,’ that’s what he says.”
Ramaswamy said, “Just shut the f—- up. At a certain point, just shut the f— up.”
The crowd responded with cheers and laughs of support.

Awards darling Brie Larson is back for more with ‘Lessons in Chemistry’: ‘Distinctive and committed’
Brie Larson won the Oscar for Best Actress for “Room” in 2016 before landing the coveted role of Captain Marvel in the MCU. Since then, however, Larson has only really worked in major franchises — appearing in “Avengers: Endgame” and a handful of other MCU projects as well as featuring in the “Fast and Furious” film series. Larson hasn’t really found a project to show the talent she displayed in her tour de force performance in “Room.”
Until now with “Lessons in Chemistry.” The Apply TV+ show, which is streaming now, is based on the novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus. It follows Larson as Elizabeth Zott, a lab tech and chemist who uses her new job hosting a 1960s TV cooking show to educate housewives on scientific topics. The result is an entertaining period story in which Larson utilizes her distinct energy and impressive range to full effect.

It's no secret that reality TV star, beauty mogul, and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian has had her fair share of romances in the past. Over the years, she has been linked to singer Ray J, Nick Cannon, and football player Reggie Bush, just to name a few. The "Kardashians" star has also been rumored to date several high-profile celebrities since rising to fame, including singer John Mayer, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, and even news correspondent Van Jones.
Outside of her boyfriends and suspected flings, Kardashian has also been married three times - to music producer Damon Thomas, basketball player Kris Humphries, and rapper Kanye West. Now, the 42-year-old seems to be back on the dating scene after a whirlwind relationship with comedian Pete Davidson. Earlier in the summer, the Skims cofounder hinted that she might have a little romance in her life in a June 8 episode of "The Kardashians"'s third season.

Update: After pleading not guilty to a 37-count federal indictment, former President Donald Trump trekked to a Miami Cuban restaurant Versailles, grabbing attention across all the networks starved for visuals after the closed-to-cameras arraignment.
But as footage of Trump’s restaurant visit rolled across the screens and commentators weighed in on tha case, CNN anchor Jake Tapper had a message to the control room: Stop it.
“The folks in the control room: I don’t need to see any more of that,” Tapper said on air. “He’s trying to turn it into a spectacle, a campaign ad. That’s enough of that. We’ve seen it already.”
On MSNBC, Nicolle Wallace also seemed to get a bit annoyed as video played of Trump’s visit. “We don’t need to see that anymore. We know where he is.”
Trump dropped in on the famous eatery as his first stop after leaving the federal courthouse.

Updated with latest: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday elaborated on the indictment brought against former President Donald Trump, characterizing it as a scheme to keep damaging information about an alleged affair with Stormy Daniels from the voting public.
Trump today pleaded not guilty to a 34-count indictment of falsifying business records. The charges allege that he was trying to cover up the payments he ultimately made to Daniels via his then-attorney, Michael Cohen.
“At its core, this case today is one with allegations like so many of our white collar cases, allegations that someone lied again and again to protect their interests and evade the laws to which we are all held accountable,” Bragg said.
He said that New York state election law “makes it a crime to conspire to promote a candidacy by unlawful means.” He also alleged that Trump planned to make false statements to tax...

A new documentary looks back on bipartisan criminal justice reform efforts championed by CNN anchor Van Jones during the Trump years
On election night 2016, Van Jones, the criminal justice advocate and former Obama administration official turned CNN anchor, processed his shock on live television. “This was a whitelash against a changing country,” he said. “It was a whitelash against a Black president, in part. And that’s the part where the pain comes.” The clip, in which Jones appeared near tears and essentially called Donald Trump a “bully” and a “bigot”, went viral. For many, it was shorthand for shock and dismay, an articulation of unspeakable anger, and a rare example of a pundit calling it like it was.
So it was confusing that over the next few years, Jones, a Black man from western Tennessee, was seen at the Trump White House, conducted the first (and uncomfortably chummy) TV...

Filmmakers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reginald Hudlin were celebrated Wednesday evening at the eighth pre-Oscar dinner of Icon Mann, a media and consulting company run by Tamara Houston that is dedicated to honoring the achievements of artists of color and providing a meeting place for powerful Black men, in particular.
During an elegant ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills that was hosted by CBS News anchor Errol Barnett, many of the most distinguished members of Hollywood’s Black community gathered to fete the veteran filmmakers behind two of 2022’s most acclaimed films — Prince-Bythewood’s Sony historical drama The Woman King and Hudlin’s Apple TV+ documentary feature Sidney — both of which were glaringly passed over for recognition by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Baz Luhrmann’s movie Elvis became a smash hit. Despite this, it wasn’t the first or only movie with a similar style or subject matter. Here are a few films you might want to watch if you loved the movie.
Elvis Presley | Gab Archive / Contributor 5. ‘The King’
Luhrmann’s Elvis is celebratory in many ways. It also portrays the subject of Elvis and race in the most positive light possible. That’s to be expected given that the film was produced by Priscilla Presley.
The King is a documentary that looks at Elvis and race from a more critical perspective. It uses the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer’s legacy as a metaphor for the history of the United States. It features interviews with many notable figures, including Van Jones, Chuck D from Public Enemy, and others. The King didn’t get much attention upon release, but it...

Tucker Carlson consistently denies that he is racist, we should definitely mention that. But we should also mention that he has a well documented history of statements and invited guest that led the New York Times to report that he hosts “what may be the most racist show in the history of cable news.”
In unrelated news, on Tuesday Carlson delivered an astonishing diatribe that touched on the murder of Tyre Nichols. During his remarks, he repeatedly denied that racism against Black people by white people is still a problem, insisted that Nichols’ murder by Memphis police had nothing to do with racism, and all but accused Democrats of making the problem of racism up as part of a conspiracy to manipulate and control Americans. And the cherry on top is that he sarcastically invoked the murder of George Floyd as part of it.

“The 1619 Project” creator Nikole Hannah-Jones needed just one word to describe what it was like to pose on the red-white-and-blue carpet with Oprah Winfrey.
“Insane!” Hannah-Jones told Variety as she made her way down the line of reporters outside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on Thursday night. “This was a lot, but it feels amazing.”
The journalist — a “print reporter” she likes to note, meaning she’s not quite used to the “lights, camera, action” style that TV news requires — cut a striking figure on the carpet, wearing an emerald green velvet gown which set off her signature red hair, plus her signature diamond necklace with “Nikole” written in cursive and custom gold “1619” hoop earrings.
Photographers called for her to look this way, that way, and “over the shoulder” as she posed with her collaborators, executive producer and director Roger Ross Williams and showrunner Shoshana Guy.

The truth can be freeing — but it can also be uncomfortable.
In the January 31 episode of “Finding Your Roots” on PBS, actor Viola Davis says: “There is no explaining where we are as people, and where we are as a country without blowing the lid off of this.” In a show about personal histories, hers is inextricably linked to the nation’s.
The Oscar winner joins Henry Louis Gates, Jr. on the PBS program to track historical records, revisit Davis’ own personal history, and piece together her past. Other guests this season include Carol Burnett, Niecy Nash, Julia Roberts, Van Jones, Danny Trejo, and more. Each actor sits down with Gates as he reveals the results of DNA-analysis and other meticulous research to acquaint them with a supposedly distant past. CNN Political Commentator Van Jones became emotional on Friday while discussing the appalling footage of the assault of Tyre Nichols by police in Memphis. The video, Jones said, was “brutal, inhumane, unacceptable, unjustifiable,” and “as bad as people say.”
But it also exposed a lack of humanity and utter cowardice by the police who beat and eventually murdered Nichols. “Even if you couldn’t see it, you could hear the inhumanity here,” he said.
We will not show the full video of the assault, but it’s important to know that Nichols, a 29-year-old FedEx worker, was followed home by police officers the evening of Jan. 7 and pulled over for what they claimed was ‘reckless driving’ less than 50 yards from his residence. Of course, the Memphis police chief has since said that camera footage from other locations in the area doesn’t support that claim and that nothing appears to have justified the stop.

The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed network is considering working with talent from across the parent company, according to a person familiar with the matter. These people might contribute segments, digital projects, series or documentaries, this person says. Some of the original content that appeared on CNN+ has popped up elsewhere. The documentary The Last Movie Stars, about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, debuted this summer on HBO Max. Chris Wallace’s talk show, one of the marquee offerings, will return in September on CNN on Sunday nights and on HBO Max.
Among the original library titles offered on the new hub are 1968: The Year That Changed America, American Dynasties: The Kennedys, American Style, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (Seasons 1-12), The Bush Years: Family, Duty, Power,...

Rebecca Kutler, a longtime CNN talent and development executive who had had a hand in the success of anchors and contributors including Abby Phillip and Van Jones, is leaving the news outlet, a move that is said to be raising eyebrows among some of the Warner Bros. Discovery outlet’s team of journalists.
Kutler had most recently been senior vice president and head of programming for CNN+, the much-promoted streaming video hub that was scuttled by CNN’s new corporate parent quickly after the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia. But her influence at CNN spans well beyond a new streaming effort. She also oversees all analysts, contributors and commentators for CNN, a job she has held since 2015, and was a key lieutenant for former CNN chief Jeff Zucker as well as Amy Entelis, who oversees talent at the news venue
Her departure was announced at a morning editorial meeting on Thursday,...

In the case of Kim Kardashian and Van Jones, we find the pair not guilty of a romance. Last summer, the Skims founder and the CNN host found themselves making headlines for their friendship. So many people suspected that the pair could be dating that Andy Cohen even addressed the rumors during the Keeping Up With the Kardashians reunion show. But in a new interview on the Amazon Original podcast Uncommon Ground With Van Jones, Kim and Van cleared the air together. "Now that we're broken up, we can actually have a conversation in public," Van joked. "Best rumor ever." Kim agreed, saying that...

After several years of studying for her first-year law exam - unofficially referred to as the baby bar - reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian shared on Dec. 13 that she had passed the exam on her fourth attempt. "Looking in the mirror," Kim wrote, "I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection."
Though much can and will be said about the privileges awarded to the Kardashian-Jenner empire, this was one accomplishment that fame nor nepotism could earn. "For anyone who doesn't know my law school journey, know this wasn't easy or handed to me," Kim said, before noting she failed the exam three times in the past two years.
"This wasn't easy or handed to me."
Despite its name, the baby bar - a seven-hour test focusing on contracts, criminal law, and torts - is actually quite challenging given that it's in lieu of traditional law school attendance.
