Del Harris is getting a second chance. The American Rust TV show was cancelled by Showtime in January but the show has now been revived by the Amazon Freevee streaming service.

A story of survival and transcendence, it's told through the eyes of Del Harris (Daniels). He's the complicated (and compromised) chief of police of a Pennsylvania Rust Belt town that's full of good people making bad choices. Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter ) is awaiting his trial in prison, for a murder he didn’t commit on American Rust. As you can imagine, his parents, Grace (Maura Tierney) and Virgil (Mark Pellegrino), aren’t exactly going to see eye-to-eye about what to do next. But is it a good thing that the chief of police, Del Harris (Jeff Daniels), wants to help because of how he feels about Grace? Or might that just end up making things more complicated? Pellegrino teases what’s ahead. Billy was denied bail, and now he’s in a pretty tough spot. How will Virgil and Grace be handling that? Mark Pellegrino: Grace and Virgil have a bit of a parting of ways in the way that they look at the problem and the way of solving the problem. Grace is going to start turning to other resources to save Billy. It seems like...

Alex Neustaedter is playing Billy Poe on American Rust, a young man who cares too much about others to his detriment.
We had a chance to talk with Alex about his role and joining the stellar cast, including Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.
If you haven't watched American Rust Season 1 Episode 3 yet, there are some light spoilers. You've been warned!
Since you're the actor bringing him to life, can you give me your perspective on Billy Poe?
So Billy's a former high school football star, and he got offered to play college ball, and he declined that. He turned it down because of how important family is for him.
And I think that's very evident with these small towns outside of Pittsburgh, it's very family-oriented, and everybody knows each other. And he's good-natured at heart. And I think he's very comfortable where he is.
He doesn't want to press his boundaries too far.

“The Affair” actress Maura Tierney has joined the cast of Showtime’s “Rust” drama series based on Philipp Meyer’s novel “American Rust.”
She’ll play the role of Grace Poe, described as “a woman from a devasted Pennsylvania steel town trying to organize a union among co-workers at her dress factory, while her son Billy (Alex Neustaedter) is accused of murder.”
The series explores the “tattered” American dream from the perspective of police chief Del Harris, played by Jeff Daniels, who lives in a southwest Pennsylvania town in the heart of the Rust Belt. When Harris is forced to watch Grace, the woman he truly loves, grappled with her son Billy’s murder accusation, he is forced to make a tough choice as to how far he’s willing to go to protect him.
