Two high-school girls get a firsthand lesson in the downsides of revolution in The Outcasts, Peter Hutchings' peppy vision of the meek inheriting the Earth, or at least the campus of a high school. Eden Sher and Victoria Justice make sympathetic protagonists for a story that owes nearly everything to a million high school comedies before it; their likability is unlikely to carry the pic far, even in the digital arena.

When Wes Craven passed away back in August of last year, The Girl in the Photographs instantly went from a film that had been flying under the radars of horror fans to one that was both immediately bittersweet as well as hotly-anticipated. Craven, shortly before his passing, executive produced the independent effort, and it will forever be the final film to bear his name. A sobering and depressing thought, regardless of the movie’s quality – which is of course what we’re here to talk about today.

Poor Janet (Katharine Isabelle). She’s just finished seeing a bad movie with a friend, but before she gets the chance to wash the cinematic stank from her eyes she’s attacked and abducted by a beer-bellied psychopath in a mask. She’s killed and disposed of but not before a photo of her lifeless body is taken for posterity. Well, posterity and for the purpose of taunting a local checkout girl named Colleen (Claudia Lee). It’s not the first picture she finds, and it won’t be the last, but without proof of an actual crime the sheriff (Mitch Pileggi) tell her there’s nothing they can do. He surmises it’s little more than a prank, and we’d probably wonder if his theory was correct if it weren’t for the fact that we’d already been shown the two killers in action. But The Girl in the Photographs is a not a...

I don’t like speaking ill of the dead, especially icons who’ve defined an entire genre, but name-dropping is a marketing tactic best left for the living. Director Nick Simon’s newest feature film is titled The Girl In The Photographs and I honestly believe I see Wes Craven’s name pop up in connection with this film more than Simon’s. Naturally, with Craven having passed in August of 2015, he’s likely to have had little [if anything] to do with the marketing of this movie, but it would certainly seem like he’s calling the shots from the gave.
Sadly, The Girl In The Photographs is not the shining example of groundbreaking genre filmmaking for which the legendary master posthumously deserves credit. For a man so synonymous with influencing the slasher horror genre, the executive producer credit should have been given more of a backseat while the “For Wes...

Nick Simon‘s The Girl in the Photographs seems to be a story reverse-engineered from its final image — which, for a low-budget horror film, is an effective one. No spoilers here, and it wouldn’t matter if there were. By that point, it’s too little and far too late to redeem the film after we’ve been subjected to recycled horror tropes, which predictably clunk their way toward an unsettling final moment. Perhaps this should have been a short and not a ponderous, forgettable feature. In a sense, it’s a horror picture for the selfie generation — fitting, as the narrative is utterly vapid and shallow.

The Girl in the Photographs was a film I was very interested in checking out and with good reason. I’ve been a fan of writer/director Nick Simon’s ever since I caught his first film Removal several years back and have been eagerly to see what his next effort would be like. I’m also – like the majority of the horror-loving world – a long-time admirer of the late, great Wes Craven. When I heard Craven was the executive producer of Mr. Simon’s sophomore film, I couldn’t wait to see what Girl would actually be like.
It’s the story of young South Dakota resident and grocery store clerk, Colleen (Claudia Lee). Colleen’s rather lackluster life is turned upside down when a mysterious photographer begins to stalk her, leaving bloody, grisly photographs for her to find, each depicting the aftermath...

Christopher Meloni's new series isn't so much about the law, but there's no question he's still trying to maintain order.

"Hart of Dixie" is about to go back in time. Well, not really, but it looks like Bluebell is going to get into the theme party fun when The CW's southern charmer returns in the new year.
Series star Jaime King, who plays Lemon Breeland, shared the above photo on Instagram Thursday (Dec. 12) of herself and Claudia Lee, who plays Lemon's younger sister Magnolia, dressed in their "Roaring '20s" flapper finest. But during "Hart of Dixie's" fall finale, Lemon lost a bet with her father and planned to leave Bluebell for a while to help her grandmother heal from her broken hip (to coincide with new mom King's maternity leave). So when is she returning?
"Jaime is coming back in episode 14, so she's gone for five episodes," executive producer Leila Gerstein tells Zap2it. "And yes, there is a very strong chance that Robert Buckley will be back.

"Friends in Low Places" wasn't the best times for Dixie's newest resident, Joel. From being attacked by fire ants to having a severe allergic reaction at his own welcoming party, it wasn't a solid first introduction into Bluebell.
However, Wanda was going to bake him a basket of muffins. As Joel experienced Bluebell for the first time, we all got to feel some nostalgia for when Zoe Hart made her initial entrance into the same town.
All the while, Lemon was trying to conceal her secret sex life, her fake relationship and a possible real boyfriend. And George tried to hide the fact he slept with Lavon's cousin. Then, Annabeth was threw a party for Joel while Zoe tried to convince him that Bluebell was a beautiful place in which to reside.

"I Hate Reboots," reads a funny T-shirt that comic book / movie superhero nerd Dave Lizewski wears in "Kick Ass 2" -- an obvious shot at "Spider-Man," "Superman" and other franchises that wind down, then return to life entirely too soon on the big screen.
But how do you feel about superhero sequels that pretty much nobody asks for, Dave? And we're not talking about "Percy Jackson" here.
"Kick Ass 2" comes three years after the modest ($48 million) success of "Kick Ass."
Covering much of the same ground, with a lot of the cute worn off or aged out of -- Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) is no longer a pre-teen, Kick Ass himself (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) strains to look like a high school senior -- the sequel is notable for some amusing bits, a few cool scenes, and its wince-worthy violence and staggering body count.
"This is the real world," Dave's long-suffering dad (Garrett M. Brown) lectures.

The sequel to 2010's punk-superhero rampage has lost quite a bit of shock value – but Chloë Grace Moretz's Hit-Girl is still the coolest thing in a cape

In 2010, screenwriter Jane Goldman and director Matthew Vaughn brought Kick-Ass to the screen, the creation of graphic novelist Mark Millar. It was a brilliant and brazen black-comic fantasy about a shy teen trying to make it as an actual crime fighter. Goldman and Vaughn ignited a new spirit of punk rock in the world of masks and capes. They challenged the placid superhero supergroups, and for my money revived the authentic teen romance and teen pathos of comic-book escapism. I recently had the opportunity to chat with Claudia Lee about Kick-Ass 2, her character "Brooke", upcoming projects, comics and the challenges faced by young actors/actresses in film today. Many will know Claudia's work from WB's Hart of Dixie, but I have a feeling that will change after Kick-Ass 2 hits theaters later this week. You can see more of Claudia in the "Carry You" music video above. If you haven't seen the gymnasium/cheerleading clip that she references in the interview, you'll want to make sure and check out the Kick-Ass 2 Comic-Con trailer included at the end of the interview. Question: You've done quite a bit of TV work, how does working in film and on Kick-Ass 2 compare to your previous experiences? Claudia: "Shooting film is really different because [with] TV you get a script every week and you don't know what's going to happen with your character.

Fox is going back to the past in its new comedy "Surviving Jack" -- all the way back to the early 1990s.
The coming-of-age story centering on the relationship between a teenage boy (Connor Buckley) and his aloof dad (former "Law & Order: Svu" star Christopher Meloni), the Jack of the title, is set in 1991. (It's based on a book by series co-creator Justin Halpern, who was in fact a teenager in the '90s.)
Aside from a Marky Mark song and a few jokes at the expense of a Hypercolor shirt, though, the show focuses more on the core relationship than on the setting. The show's trailer has a low-key vibe that's pretty much the opposite of the last show based on something Halpern wrote, "$#*! My Dad Says." Meloni has a very good deadpan, and Buckley conveys the frustrations of high school pretty well.

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Fox has officially picked up five new comedies for its 2013-2014 season -- among them, an offering from "Family Guy" boss Seth MacFarlane and star vehicles for TV favorites Jason Ritter and Chris Meloni. The network only picked up three comedies last year.
First off, some sad news for "Parenthood" fans but great news for Jason Ritter -- he's finally found a strong pilot to lead in "Us and Them," previously known as "Friends and Family." Based on the British series "Gavin and Stacey," "Us and Them" pairs Ritter with Alexis Bledel in a long-distance rom-com.
"Law & Order: Svu" star Chris Meloni is taking a comedic turn with "Surviving Jack," based on Justin Halpern's book "I Suck at Girls." Set in the '90s, the series comes from the team behind "S#*! My Dad Says" and also stars Alex Kapp Horner, Connor Buckley, Claudia Lee, Kevin Hernandez, and Tyler Foden.

Christopher Meloni fans are going to love this news! We’ve learned that Meloni is on board to play the male lead in the upcoming Fox’s adaptation of Justin Halpern’s book I Suck at Girls. In addition to Meloni, this yet untitled comedy pilot will also star Connor Buckley and Claudia Lee, so yes – this definitely sounds promising! Claudia Lee, on the other hand, will portray...
