As Call Her King opens Judge Jaeda King is having a bad day, she got smacked around at her martial arts class and then her husband tries to join her in the shower which leads to a major argument. It doesn’t get any better after she gets to work, she overhears one of the other judges go off on a racist and sexist rant about her and the case she’s overseeing.
That would be the case of Sean Samuels who will be sentenced for multiple homicides. But moments after she passes a sentence of death, Sean’s brother Gabriel also known as Black Caesar and his crew storm the courthouse.

Call Her King is a fun, interesting cross-over of action thriller and political commentary. Specifically, commentary on the iniquities of the US Justice system and the ingrained discrimination faced daily by black people within it.
Basic set-up. Jaeda King (Naturi Turton) is, as the cliché goes, ‘young, gifted and black’. Also, a woman. So, you might expect her to be a ‘bleeding heart liberal’. But, no. For reasons that will become clear she is to be found on the side of the legal conservatives.
Jaeda is all set to hand down sentence in the case of Sean Samuels (Jason Mitchell), a young black man found guilty of multiple murders when… her courtroom is invaded by a bunch of ne’er-do-wells. That is, by a small army hired by Sean’s brother, Gabriel (Lance Goss) – aka ‘Black Caesar’ – with the aim of springing Sean.
Jaeda, however, escapes, taking with her Sean and a couple.

Retrofit Films is entering the shortform interactive content game with the first-ever minutelong Lgbtq Instagram soap series Hidden Canyons from creator Brant Rotnem. Co-directed by Fawzia Mirza (CBS’s The Red Line), the first season consists of 26 episodes that are a minute or less and follows seven friends as they navigate the relationships and challenges of Lgbtq life in the titular fictional city of Hidden Canyons. “We often see reductive depictions of the Lgbtq+ world in media,” said Rotnem. “I wanted to tell stories that speak to the nuances we don’t get to see. For instance, what is the community’s relationship to materialism and success? Should we structure romantic relationships like straight couples, or redefine them in our own way?...

One of the best drama series of 2017, James Bland's Giants, kicked off Season 2 today with a fantastic new episode.

Chad Ferrin's harrowing festival favorite Parasites will be available to rent or own in the Us and Canada starting January 24th on iTunes, Amazon Instant, Google Play, Vudu and Xbox from 108 Media.
Veteran genre director Ferrin (Someone's Knocking at the Door, Horse) presents one long night on Skid Row as a sadistic reimagining on the true story of John Colter and his flight from the Blackfoot Indians.

While envisioning Parasites, writer/director Chad Ferrin had to be mainlining heavy doses of Assault On Precinct 13 and Escape From New York. Socio-political extremism, synthy musical composition, aggressive violence – Parasites runs straight out of the 70s and onto our digital screens. Ferrin extrapolates an ever-growing homelessness rate and turns it into an urban question of purification, complete with political commentary that boasts seething prejudice. America’s scummiest, most neglected stones are overturned with satirical pause – but only on a shoestring-budget that struggles to drive home Ferrin’s fiery, enraged survival story.
