Eleanor Knowles(I)
- Costume and Wardrobe Department
Eleanor Knowles (Dugan) was born in Minneapolis on January 21st, 1937.
She started her career as a costumer for the stage in New York City in
1955, then transferred in 1971 to the West Coast, where she designed
wardrobe for two films. Her work had always required long hours and
frequent travel, so she chose to retire to raise a family, turning to
writing non-fiction books and articles for a living. These include "The
Films Of Jeanette MacDonald And Nelson Eddy" (1975) now in its third
edition, and contributions to the publications Classic Images and Films
Of The Golden Age. Her lifelong passion has been the musicals, from all
nations, in the 1930s. She has special expertise in the work of British
performer George Formby. She later returned to the fabric component of
costuming and is working in 2014 as an art quilter, with showings of
her work in San Francisco and New York City.
