Barack Obama stopped by The Daily Show on Thursday to discuss why he believes youth turnout made a huge difference in the midterm elections and how globalization, disinformation and media infrastructure have contributed to democracy weakening around the world.
Trevor Noah began his conversation with the former president by asking him two questions: if he feels pressure to come out and support new Democratic candidates, and what he thinks it means for the party that he always has to hit the campaign trail.
While it seemed like Noah was hinting at the fact that Obama was a major factor in the Democratic victories this year, he shut down that notion and countered by saying he thinks it had everything to do with the people who were running.

Kari Lake lost her bid to become Arizona’s governor to Democrat Katie Hobbs, reiterating the national rebuke Republicans received from voters in last Tuesday’s midterms. Despite a poor showing by conservatives in Arizona, Lake, an avowed election denier, is insinuating foul play is responsible for her loss, and Maga pundits are following suit.
“Arizonans know Bs when they see it.” Lake tweeted shortly after major news outlets called the race against her.

It was a true Grand Canyon State nail biter but Katie Hobbs prevailed over former TV anchor and Donald Trump acolyte Kari Lake in the race to be Arizona’s next governor, NBC, CNN and other networks projected on Monday.
The tight race between the candidates has been too close to call since Tuesday’s midterms, but the latest results from the state showed that Republican Lake would be unable to overcome current Arizona Secretary of State Hobbs’ lead. As over 71,000 votes and other data came in from Maricopa County tonight, the Comcast-owned network first made its call:

“Obviously, the election on Tuesday night went a hell of a lot better than we had anticipated.”
This was Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) scientific assessment of the 2022 midterms. He watched returns at home in Vermont — “I try to keep out of D.C. except when necessary,” he offers — and stayed up until four in the morning waiting for results. The night had been full of bright spots for the 81-year-old Democratic socialist, but the most promising had been John Fetterman’s decisive win in Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race.

Mark Kelly has been elected to a full six-year term in the U.S. Senate for the state of Arizona. The incumbent’s close victory puts the Democrats one vital step closer to continuing to control the upper chamber.
Three days after the midterm elections, CNN, Nnc and others declared the former astronaut, who was elected to the Senate in a special 2020 election, was on a solid trajectory to beat Republican challenger Blake Masters in the former home of John McCain. The race for Arizona governor is still too close to call, but Democrat Adrian Fontes has now been declared the winner for the state’s pivotal Secretary of State position over self-described Oath Keeper Mark Finchem.
Kelly’s seat was widely seen among the most vulnerable among all Democratic incumbents.

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords narrowly escaped death three years ago, and she marked the anniversary in fearless fashion Wednesday: by skydiving. The Arizona politician's life changed forever on Jan. 8, 2011, when a disturbed local man opened fire during a ceremony outside a Tucson grocery store. Six people died and 13 were wounded, including Giffords, who suffered life-threatening and ultimately life-altering injuries after being shot in the head. Yet Giffords, 43, intended to send a clear message on Wednesday when she jumped out of a plane in her home state with a Navy Seal and a parachute strapped to her back -...

Ahead of her sky-diving adventure, the inspiring Giffords tweeted her thanks to Joe Biden for his good-luck phone call with her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, by her side. Source: Twitter user GabbyGiffords Along with her big jump, Giffords also marked the third anniversary by sharing some thoughtful lessons in a a New York Times op-ed. On Jan. 8, 2011, the Arizona Democrat was critically injured when she was shot in the head, and she left Congress just over a year later with a letter of resignation to Speaker John Boehner, writing, "I will recover and will return, and we will work together again, for Arizona and for all Americans."
