In bigger picture terms, the major highlights of Ventana Sur were a masterclass by Cannes head Thierry Frémaux and an impromptu speech by San Sebastián director José Luis Rebordinos, heads of the most important film festivals in the world and Spanish-speaking world, supporting the continued existence of Incaa. There words came after Argentinian President elect Javier Milei had vowed on the campaign trail to shutter Argentina’s state-backed film-tv agency if voted into power.
In industry terms, never has Ventana Sur been this big, its final attendance numbers sky-rocketing to 4,300, some 30% up on 2022, beyond even the wildest expectations of organizers, Cannes Marché du Film and the Incaa.
Put that down in part to new sections – Shoot the Book, Fantasmática, and Show Shorts – and enlargement of other sections, such as El Principio del Film and Solo Series. Latin America seems to have a bottomless well of new talent. The biggest reason,...

Buenos Aires’ Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest film-tv market, has set dates for its 2022 edition, which promises to be the first full-on reunion of its burgeoning regional industry in three long years.
Running Monday, Nov. 28 to Friday, Dec. 2, Ventana Sur has also launched a call for applications for Proyecta, its film co-production forum organized by Cannes’ Marché du Film and the San Sebastian Festival and targeting first or second film projects in development seeking co-production between Europe and Latin America.
Launched in 2009, the Cannes Festival/Film Market initiative, organized in partnership with Argentina’s Incaa agency, looks vital to regional rebuild in Latin America.
It also catches the industry as it is pulled by opposing pressures. Many film-tv professionals are anxious to curb non-essential travel. Yet film and TV industries are being positioned by regional and national governments alike in Latin America as a priority growth sector for post-pandemic recovery.

Heading into this year’s Guadalajara’s Co-Production Meetings, the team behind Michelle Garza’s maternal horror flick “Huesera” has shared with Variety news of a new minority co-producer, choreographer and key casting details.
“Huesera” is produced by Paulina Villaviencio from Mexico’s Disruptiva Films and Edher Campos of Machete Producciones. Villaviencio’s recently produced Simon Hernández‘s 2019 Sitges Documenta Award-winner “La venganza de Jairo,” documenting the final shoot of Colombian genre master Jairo Pinilla.
A recent Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences addition, Campos’ impressive resume includes Cannes awarded fare such as Michael Rowe’ Cannes Camera d’Or-winner “Leap Year” and Diego Quemada-Díez’s “La Jaula de Oro,” which scooped A Certain Talent award for its leads in 2013. Most recently, he produced Heidi Ewing’s Sundance Audience Award and Next Innovator Award-winner “I Carry You with Me.”

Arrow concluded after eight seasons this past January, bringing an emotional end to the Emerald Archer’s adventures. The handy thing about the Arrowverse, though, is that the rest of Team Arrow could feasibly crossover onto any other show in The CW’s DC shared universe. Perhaps the most obvious choice is Legends of Tomorrow, as the Waverider has always been home to characters from other corners of the franchise. It seems that two former Arrow stars would be up for such a switch as well.
ComicBook.com caught up with both Black Canary Juliana Harkavy and Michael Rowe Aka Deadshot and asked them for their thoughts on a potential hop over to LoT. Unsurprisingly, they both love the idea. For Harkavy, she’ll hopefully be appearing in Green Arrow and the Canaries, anyway, but she’s still open to a Legends role, too.

Before Will Smith, Michael Rowe portrayed the only live-action version of Deadshot on Arrow. But since Smith won’t be returning for the sequel to Suicide Squad, the actor has expressed interest in reprising his role as Floyd Lawton.
Most fans would agree that David Ayer’s 2016 movie was a convoluted mess, and ultimately, a missed opportunity. That being said, Smith’s Deadshot was undeniably one of the things that made Suicide Squad tolerable. But before there were plans to cast the legendary actor in the role, Michael Rowe portrayed Lawton as one of Oliver Queen’s first enemies in Starling City. He then continued to reprise his part several times as an agent of A.R.G.U.S. and a member of the Suicide Squad. As a matter of fact, there were even plans to develop a spinoff show centering around the character, but with Will Smith coming along,...

Family can lift you up, or they can drag you down.
In the case of Jimmy Downey, his family filled with abuse and crime threatened to pull him under so far he escaped leaving them far behind.
But when Jimmy's beloved mother, Rose, dies, Jimmy heads back to his hometown to face a lifetime of disillusion and disappointment that he was never able to escape no matter how much distance he set.
Michael Rowe, best known by TV Fanatics as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot on Arrow, stars as Jimmy, a police officer brimming with loneliness and unreleased anger.
His escape from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Toronto didn't heal his wounds after watching his father brutalize his mother for years, nor did it ease his pain at walking away and leaving his family to their own devices even if Jimmy was trying to be a better man.

Guadalajara, Mexico — New Mexican production shingle Zafiro Cinema, launched by Machete Prods. founder Edher Campos and Bolivian producer Gabriela Maire late last year, is gearing up to make its first film, “Perros” (“Dogs”), written and to be directed by Chilean director Vinko Tomičić.
Chilean thesp Alfredo Castro, who broke out internationally in Pablo Larraín’s films and then Lorenzo Vigas’ Venice Golden Lion winner “From Afar” (“Desde Alla”), will play opposite a yet-to-be discovered non-pro from La Paz, Bolivia.
This will be Tomičić’s sophomore feature. His debut film “Cockroach” (“Fumigador”), co-directed with Francisco Hevia, won the best film at the 2016 Santiago International Film Festival (Sanfic) among others.

A recurring controversy flared up again at last month’s Sundance festival, this time with the Zac Efron-starring Ted Bundy biopic “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” as its lit match: Where is the line drawn between representation and celebration in films about appalling figures, particularly with a swoon-worthy sex symbol in the lead? That’s an issue less likely to be raised with “The Golden Glove,” Fatih Akin’s hyper-grisly true-crime study of another notorious 1970s serial killer, Fritz Honka: No one could accuse the German filmmaker of glamorizing anyone or anything in a film so strenuously dedicated to its own seaminess, you can practically smell the human flesh rotting on screen.
As played by 22-year-old actor Jonas Dassler, aged up and slathered in repulsive prosthetics, the film’s Honka is practically the anti-Efron/Bundy: a freakish charisma void so inhuman that it’s hard to feel...

If "Arrow" had an alternate name, it would be called "Resurrection", or at least "All Hail the Lazarus Pit". I say this — mostly in jest — because "Arrow" is bring another character back from the dead this week in the episode titled "Brotherhood". While Thea (Willa Holland) and Sara (Caity Lotz) needed the help of the Lazarus Pit to bring them back, this character doesn't need magic, he needs discovery. Much like Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), who was thought to be dead until Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Curtis (Echo Kellum) discovered his message, this character was also only presumed dead. Who is this mysterious character, now returning to the land of the living? Andrew Diggle, John Diggle's believed-to-be-dead brother. Before I was a professional comic book writer, I was a fan. I still am. I was going to comic cons long before I turned pro. Some are good, some are not so good, and some are the San Diego Comic Con which is too large to fit into any category. For me these days, cons are mostly working weekends where I meet with fans and fellow pros, sign some autographs, maybe sell a few of my trade paperbacks.
Last weekend, I and My Mary were at the Motor City Comic Con in Novi, Michigan, and we had a great time. It’s close enough to where we live so that we could just drive there and the Con gave us a hotel room so we didn’t have to drive back and forth. Leto showed off his new muscles, which everyone seemed to be fine with.
What fans have been less keen on is the photo of his tattooed and be-grilled Joker.
Despite suggestions that this was a concept that wouldn't show up in the film itself, shots from the set have dashed these hopes to pieces.

Love will most certainly be in the air in the 17th episode of Arrow Season 3 (titled “Suicidal Tendencies”), when Diggle and Lyla get married again with all of their friends in attendance. However, as the title of the episode sort of suggests, it won’t just be a romance-filled hour of Arrow, as the newlyweds get wrapped up in a mission with the new and improved Suicide Squad, which is still led by Michael Rowe’s Deadshot, but has also now added Amy Gumenick’s Carrie Cutter, aka Cupid, to the team as well after her brief appearance earlier this season on Arrow. And from the look of these photos from the upcoming episode, it appears that it won’t just be Diggle, Lyla, and the Squad getting into some battles, as the pictures below also show Oliver and Ray facing off in full costume. That’s right, the two meet on the streets of…...

The small screen success of the Suicide Squad in Arrow has been credited in part with Warner Bros.' decision to move ahead with a movie featuring the villainous team. Fury helmer David Ayer is directing, and the cast includes names like Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie. Talking to ComicBook.com recently, Michael Rowe (who plays Deadshot on the small screen) had this to say about hearing the news that a movie was in the works. "I’ve grown quite attached to it, the character and the squad. So for Will Smith to takeover Deadshot, it’s gonna be fun, man, because he’s gonna take the squad, and all the A-lsit stars, are gonna make the squad into a household name and give it the respect that it’s due, so that makes me really happy." The disadvantages of a movie though? "I guess if you do look at it,...

While Fury director David Ayer is currently hard at work on bringing the Suicide Squad to the big screen, comic book fans can see another version of the villainous team on TV in Arrow.
Et Online have revealed that they will return to the popular series in episode seventeen, appropriately titled “Suicidal Tendencies”. Unfortunately, Michael Jai White won’t be back as Bronze Tiger, but Michael Rowe Will be back as Deadshot (the character Will Smith is set to play in the 2016 movie).
A new addition to the team is Amy Gumenick as Cupid, a character we met a little earlier in season three. She has a serious thing for The Arrow, so seeing them potentially interact once again promises to be very interesting indeed!
Those are the only members confirmed to appear as of right now, but expect more to follow as two villains don’t make much of a squad!

The small screen Suicide Squad is set to return to The CW's "Arrow" with word today that the current season's seventeenth episode "Suicidal Tendencies" will sport a slightly different incarnation of the group.
Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and Deadshot (Michael Rowe) are returning, but Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) is gone - replaced by newest member Cupid (Amy Gumenick).
The episode will also introduce Senator Cray (Steven Culp), a corrupt politician who will be at the forefront of a rescue mission in the Republic of Kasnia. Also making another appearance in the episode is Charlotte Ross as Donna Smoak, Felicity's mother.
The CW was reportedly considering a "Suicide Squad" TV series spin-off, plans that were ditched after Warners announced their plans for a "Suicide Squad" movie which begins filming in April.

Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad are returning to Arrow in s03e18, "Suicidal Tendencies." However Michael Jai White's Bronze Tiger won't be present and Sean Maher's Shrapnel is of course, deceased. Joining the team will be Amy Gumenick's Cupid. Also confirmed to return is Michael Rowe's Deadshot. Though onlyt two members are confirmed to appear at this time, it's most likely a safe bet that A.R.G.U.S. will dispatch more than just Deadshot and Cupid. Will Harley Quinn be released as well? We also know that Manu Bennett's Deathstroke will be making his Arrow season 3 episode 14, "The Return". In between episode 14 and 18, could Deathstroke become an official member of the team? While this news is exciting, bear in mind that we're several weeks away from this episode's air date. For now, Oliver (Stephen Amell) simply has to heal up and return...

How fun was that?
The Flash and Arrow teams pulled out all the stops to bring two action-picked episodes this week. But, like the comic-book geeks that they are, the creative brains behind the two shows were adamant that certain things be featured in the two hours – and one of them was a biggie.

It was rumored last week and now it has been confirmed by Variety that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad will start shooting in Toronto in early 2015 and cast has been officially announced and it includes:
Jared Leto – The Joker
Will Smith – Deadshot
Tom Hardy – Rick Flag
Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn

On the heels of Suicide Squad's cast announcement, I have a bittersweet taste in my mouth. While I do like the thought of Jared Leto, Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and others portraying some of the baddest villains out there, I have a foul taste in my mouth. "What about the television actors?" I think, remembering the solid performances of Michael Rowe as Deadshot on Arrow. The same can be said for many other actors in the DC universe right now, such as Nick Tarabay, who recently made his debut as Captain Boomerang on Flash. Not long after his debut, it was announced that his former Spartacus cast mate Jai Courtney will be playing the same character in Suicide Squad.
The move was reminiscent of the announcement of Ezra Miller being cast as The Flash the same day the second episode ratings were announced for the television show starring Grant Gustin.

With Warner Bros and DC Comics announcing the all-star cast for David Ayer's Suicide Squad film this week, it seems like the perfect time to cast an eye over the lesser-known team from the world of Batman and Superman.
Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Cara Delevingne and Jai Courtney have been cast in the superhero film, with Oprah Winfrey being courted for the movie.
What is the Suicide Squad?
Task Force X - better known as the 'Suicide Squad' - is a government-sanctioned team of convicted super-felons who serve as 'deniable assets', performing high-risk black-ops missions for the government. They are offered commuted sentences in return.
The team operates out of Belle Reve prison under the control of hard-nosed agent Amanda Waller, who keeps the motley crew of villains on a tight leash with remote explosive devices that can be detonated at any time.

Arrow, starring Stephen Amell, is The CW's most watched television program at 3.9 million viewers. With Grant Gustin, introduced in Season 2 as Barry Allen a.k.a.. The Flash, seemingly poised to become just as popular as Amell, it's probably fair to ask - What other superheroes and super villains introduced on Arrow are deserving of their own spinoff? Is a Huntress spinoff starring Jessica de Gouw a good idea? Would a Suicide Squad show, starring Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Diggle (David Ramsey), Harbinger (Audrey Marie Anderson), Deadshot, (Michael Rowe), Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) and perhaps Harley Quinn find an audience? There's also appears to be a Birds of Prey team forming on Arrow with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Huntress, Katana (Devon Aoki) and Black Canary (Caity Lotz or Katie Cassidy) all in play. And lastly, we have Deathstroke (Manu Bennett) cooling his heels in the makeshift Super Max prison...
