It may not hold the same weight as the Grammys, but the Billboard Awards still pack a powerful punch in the music biz, particularly because the winners are based on record sales numbers. And last night, tons of heavy hitters were recognized, including the late great Jenni Rivera.
La Diva de la Banda won two posthumous awards last night, including Latin Artist of the Year. Her "La Misma Gran Señora" took home Latin Album of the Year, beating hitmakers like Romeo Santos and Prince Royce.
The other big Hispanic winner was Brazil’s Michel Telo, whose “Hasta Que Salga el Sol” knocked down tracks from Don Omar and Wisin y Yandel for Latin Song of the Year. Unfortunately, fans didn’t get a chance to see Michel perform the song live, but several other Tr3s faves got a moment in the spotlight.

London, April 4 (Ians/Efe) Set for release April 23, Carlos Vives' next album features a duet with Brazil's Michel Telo.
"Corazon profundo", Vives' 14th studio disc, "is made with all that which has been left clinging to my heart", the Colombian artist said.
The new effort bears the hallmarks of Vives' music: positive messages wrapped in tradition-tinged tropical pop.
"Corazon profundo" comes four years after "Clasicos de la provincia II", itself an evocation of "Clasicos de la provincia", the 1993 album that made Vives an international star and Colombia's first musical artist with seven-figure sales.
Vives, who has sold.

Las Vegas -- As Colombian rockero Juanes took home the best album award, Mexican brother-sister duo Jesse & Joy and their pop hit "Corre!" ran away with four awards at the 13th Annual Latin Grammys.
Hosted by actors Cristian De La Fuente and Lucero, Thursday night's event attracted stars from across the world and from dozens of Latin musical genres to the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Just like at a big family party, new faces shared the spotlight with older generations, and traditional styles mixed with electronica and Vegas dancers on stage.
Traditional Mexico met Las Vegas in a colorful number featuring Oaxaca native Lila Downs, Afro-Colombian singer Toto la Momposina and dancers in regional costumes, Carnival masques and skeleton makeup.
"What a great joy. Thank God, and all the fans," Juanes said as he dragged Dominican mereguero Juan Luis Guerra, who produced "MTV Unplugged," to the stage to accept the...

The nominees for the 2012 Latin Grammy awards are in, and Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra tops the list with six nods.
Guerra scored two of the 10 "Best Song" nominations for his "Azul Sabina" and "En El Cielo No Hay Hospital." The Dominican singer’s unique blend of merengue, bolero, bachata and rock has already earned him 12 Latin Grammys.
The list of nominees released Tuesday by the Latin Recording Academy includes both established musical titans such as Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, and relative newcomers, including Afro-Colombian hip hop group Choc Quib Town.
Brazil's Caetano Veloso, who first came to prominence in the 1960s playing a samba-infused style of rock known as Tropicalia, is up for four awards. Caetano will also be honored as the "2012 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year."
The Latin Grammys are scheduled for Nov. 15 in Las Vegas and will be televised by Univision.
