Mick Mars has shared the new song “Right Side of Wrong,” the second single from his upcoming debut solo album The Other Side of Mars (arriving February 23rd).
The track is a worthy follow-up the powerful “Loyal to the Lie,” the previous single that launched the campaign for Mars’ first solo LP. Here, the former Mötley Crüe axeman once again dabbles in a surging alternative-metal/post-grunge sound that backs up pointed lyrics — possibly Mars releasing some angst over how things went down with the Crüe.
If that interpretation of the lyrics is on a more personal/micro level, Mars’ press release for the song also offers a macro perspective: “The song explores the oxymoron of two individual minds viewing their position as the right one. While in reality it is simply personal perspective — a present theme in interpersonal relationships we all navigate and more broadly the catalyst of many conflicts on a global societal basis.

Mick Mars, the founding and former guitarist of Mötley Crüe, has announced his debut solo album, The Other Side of Mars, arriving February 23rd. The video for “Loyal to the Lie,” the lead single from the LP, can be streamed now.
“When it comes to my playing, there’s the Mötley side and the Mars side,” the guitarist said of his upcoming album, and “Loyal to the Lie” showcases the latter.
Crüe fans might be taken aback by the song’s more alt-metal/industrial slant, with singer Jacob Bunton providing impassioned vocals over Mars’ axework — which sounds as sharp and technically proficient as ever. While the Mötley Crüe camp raised questions about Mars’ physical ability to play amid the nasty exchanges that followed Mars’ retirement from touring with the band, this song testifies to the fact that he’s still got it.

A Frightfest audience in pre-lockdown times Photo: Chris Collier
This year's Arrow Video Frightfest is to be held online, it was announced today. Taking place from the 28th to the 31st of August, the much-loved genre festival will screen up to 25 films, much reduced from its usual line-up. It will still feature special guest introductions and audience Q&a sessions, plus some special events yet to be revealed. Tickets will be geo-blocked for the UK.
"Although we can’t recreate the special atmosphere of our public gatherings, we hope our online event will go some way to bringing the fans and filmmakers back together," said Frightfest co-director Ian Rattray, adding that "of course, we welcome genre fans who have been unable to attend in person before and who will be joining us for the first time."

We cover a lot of festivals here at Eye For Film. Frightfest is far from the biggest, but it has long been one of the most popular. Fans of the festival and people curious to know why it makes such an impact will be pleased to hear that there’s now a documentary on the subject - Frightfest: Beneath The Dark Heart Of Cinema. It was made by Chris Collier, whom I caught up with during this year’s festival to ask how it came about.
“I’ve known the guys for a long time,” he says. “I’ve worked with them at the festival since 2011. I’ve obviously seen their relationship and their relationship with the fans, and I and my production partner [Craig Ennis] just thought that there was a story there... We thought we could tell it in an honest way,...

This year’s FrightFest will kick off on 23rd August with Jenn Wexler’s post-modern slasher The Ranger (making her the first ever female director to open the festival) and close on 27th August with Gaspar Noé’s insane surprise Cannes-favourite Climax. And considering 2018’s London edition is backed by Arrow Video as the main sponsor, fans can expect even more top-shelf genre fun than ever before. Hold on to your butts.
The four horseman of the fest-pocalypse, Greg Day, Alan Jones, Paul McEvoy and Ian Rattray reunite again to take over the Cineworld Leicester Square and Prince Charles Cinema, marking FrightFest’s 19th year on the trot celebrating horror in London’s film centre. And the line-up is certainly a fan-pleaser, with over 60 premieres, plenty involving former festival favourites.
