Thanks to his standout role as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick and the success of his recent romcom Anyone But You, Glen Powell is well on his way to becoming one of the most highly in-demand actors in Hollywood.

Despite (made up) rumors to the contrary, Powell hasn't actually met with Kevin Feige about potentially playing Scott Summers, but even if the opportunity were to present itself down the line, it doesn't sound like the Twisters star would have much interest.

Glen Powell is a household name these days, thanks to the box office success of Top Gun: Maverick and the romantic comedy Anyone but You. Twisters is one of his upcoming films that will be released this summer. That being said, the actor, 35, appears to be part of every new project that is being announced daily.
Well, that does not imply, however, that the actor is accepting every offer. He has actually already passed up two enormous opportunities. Recently, Powell spoke with THR about his career to date, as well as his decisions for the future.

When someone talks about a “hit man movie,” or a film about a contract killer, certain images spring to mind: a lonely soul, hollowed out on the inside and waiting across a street with a sniper rifle; a merciless killer who takes no pleasure in life while dealing out cold, calculated professionalism in his trade; maybe a lot of glowering. These are familiar tropes which can sometimes be done well—see: David Fincher’s The Killer on Netflix as Exhibit A. Perhaps, however, their familiarity is why Richard Linklater’s Hit Man has struck a chord with everyone who’s laid eyes on it.
An apparently goofy and feel-good story about a wiseacre assassin and the love story he gets wrapped up in along the way, Hit Man is the latest collaboration between the director of Boyhood and the Before Sunrise trilogy and his evermore popular muse, Glen Powell. Powell...

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Jey Uso The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Following on from their intense war of words, The Scottish Warrior and “Main Event” Jey Uso reignited their rivalry in the ring. As the two battled back-and-forth, the top-rope turnbuckle got dislodged. The Scottish Warrior used this to his advantage, raking the eyes of Uso with the referees back turned. This allowed McIntyre to hit the Claymore, earning the win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Rhea Ripley def. Maxxine Dupri The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Dupri shocked Ripley by hitting with her a hurricanrana, but this only enraged The Nightmare. Ripley soon made quick work of Dupri, hitting the Riptide before locking in the Prism...

Vanna White celebrated the 40th anniversary of her Wheel of Fortune debut in December 2022, and now the syndicated version game show is hitting its 40th. But by the time the current, nighttime Wheel incarnation premiered — on September 19, 1983 — daytime versions of the show had been spinning for years. Read on for a chronology, Fortune fans. NBC introduced Wheel of Fortune as a daytime game show on January 6, 1975, with Chuck Woolery hosting and actor Susan Stafford turning the letters. Woolery, who’d go on to host the game shows Love Connection and Scrabble, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021 that game-show mastermind Merv Griffin approached him to host a pilot called Shopper’s Bazaar, a proto-Wheel that also featured a roulette wheel and Hangman-like puzzles. NBC passed on that “horrible” pilot, Woolery explained, but when Griffin reconfigured the format and renamed it Wheel of Fortune, the network put in on the daytime schedule.

Tom Cruise had sage advice for playing a cocky antagonist onscreen: Be the biggest asshole you can be.
Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick” co-star Glen Powell revealed that the iconic actor helped him dispel pressure to be “liked” in the film as arrogant Navy pilot Hangman.
“Sometimes you can fall into the trap of wanting to be liked on camera. And in a movie like this, where you know there’s going to be a lot of eyes on it, you don’t want to be Draco Malfoy,” Powell said during Variety’s Actors on Actors series opposite Kate Hudson. “But Tom gave me this advice: ‘For the ending to work, you have to completely lean into that. Everybody else in the movie is questioning their own ability. You’re the only guy that’s not questioning it. So if there’s any sort of apology in anything you say,...

“Devotion,” based on the book by Adam Makos, flew into theaters over Thanksgiving break. The film about flight, friendship and family landed at an ideal time in the holiday season, and it features a number of talented actors who bring the true story to life onscreen. Before he appeared in the role of Hangman in “Top Gun: Maverick,” Glen Powell knew he wanted to bring the story of Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner to life — Powell finished Makos’ book in 2016, after which he began to develop the project. Joined by director Jd Dillard and actor Jonathan Majors who portrays the precedent-setting Jesse Brown, the crew launches into a harrowing and heartwarming story.
“Devotion” chronicles the journey of two wingmen in the U.S. Navy’s Fighter Squadron 32. The pair came from completely opposite backgrounds, yet they joined forces to become the most well-known naval aviators to date, risking their lives in...

He’ll always be your hangman, but Glen Powell had a hard time finding any purpose in playing Jake “Hangman” Seresin in this year’s Top Gun: Maverick.
“Hangman” served as a nemesis to Mile Teller’s Jake “Rooster” Bradshaw, son of the late Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards in 1986’s Top Gun) and Glen Powell felt that was about the extent of his character. “He was there to add conflict to Rooster’s character, which is a good thing, but he wasn’t three-dimensional and he had no pay off. I didn’t know why he existed.”
But it was while filming Top Gun: Maverick that Powell got advice from, well, Maverick. Powell recalled Tom Cruise telling him, “It’s not that I need people to root for you, but I need them to love watching you…In some places in the world, this piece of body...

“Top Gun: Maverick” was such a massive success, both critically and commercially, that it can be hard to imagine any actor not wanting to participate in the film. But Glen Powell wasn’t sure that playing the arrogant Jake “Hangman” Seresin would be a good career move.
In a new interview with GQ, Powell shared his first impressions of the “Top Gun: Maverick” script. The actor initially auditioned for the role of Rooster that ultimately went to Miles Teller, but when he was called in to read for Hangman, he had some reservations about the part. Powell dismissively referred to the character as “dick garnish” and “Navy Draco Malfoy,” and it took some convincing for him to see the complexity of Hangman.

The story behind "Devotion" is one of courage, camaraderie, and allyship. It's the story of Jesse Brown, the first Black man to complete flight training with the U.S. Navy, his wingman Tom Hudner, and their partnership throughout the Korean War. There's a kind of pressure that comes with telling this story properly that Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell — who co-star in the film as Brown and Hudner, respectively — likely felt from the very beginning. Powell, who also serves as an executive producer on "Devotion," labored for years to get the film off the ground. His hands-on approach also extended to casting: as Majors recently explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he was the second person Powell discussed "Devotion" with after director J.D. Dillard.
Normally, such meetings take place in a casual, unassuming locale, but Majors had a very different location in mind, one that would majorly test the mettle of his future co-star,...

In 2011, the silver screen debut of Green Lantern landed like a thud instead of soaring like a triumph. The film was dismissed both by critics and wider audiences; one of the more positive reviews was Roger Ebert's middling praise, "['Green Lantern'] intends to be a sound-and-light show, assaulting the audience with sensational special effects. If that's what you want, that's what you get."
Time hasn't been any kinder to "Green Lantern." Star Ryan Reynolds has poked fun at it in both of his subsequent "Deadpool" movies. "Green Lantern" was conceived as the beginning of a larger DC Comics film franchise, meant to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, its hero has been persona non grata on film since. Green Lantern is usually a staple of the Justice League but in both versions of that film, the only Lantern who showed up was a cameo.

GamesMaster was that rare breed of show that was somehow both a commercial smash hit and a cult phenomenon. For seven series, it was essential viewing for games enthusiasts and lovers of snark everywhere. All of its elements – the masterstroke casting of sardonic Scotsman Dominik Diamond as host; the sight of beloved astronomer Sir Patrick Moore’s disembodied cyborg head as the eponymous GamesMaster; the humour, the authority, the scoops, the fun, the anarchy – combined to create a show that for many was synonymous with and indivisible from the gaming industry it fed upon and reflected.
In the years since it went off air, its name has been whispered in reverent tones across online forums, and at parties where people of a certain vintage gather to trade nostalgic remembrances. Will it ever come back? Should it ever come back? Well, in 2021 GamesMaster did come back, rebooted on E4 with a...

Confess, Fletch hit both theaters and streaming last week and marks the return of the wacky, sleuth reporter previously portrayed by comedy legend Chevy Chase in 1985’s Fletch and 1989’s Fletch Lives. The comedy is based on another book in the series of novels written by Gregory McDonald and finds Fletch having to prove his innocence after he is suspected of murder while working on a case of stolen paintings.

With "Top Gun: Maverick" continuing to deliver at the box office, it's clear the film is far more than your garden variety dad flick. It's, at the risk of hyperbolizing, kind of a flawless film, one that exceeds its "dudes going fast in planes" conceit. Among other things, it's reignited an interest in call signs, the names that pilots adopt for their exploits in the air. A call sign can spring from a disparaging nickname or a notorious reputation, or it could speak to a pilot's particular skill and style.
"Maverick" introduced a handful of new call signs to the world of the films, and if you're a "Top Gun" die-hard, you've probably wondered how each character got their specific call sign. Fortunately, most of the "Maverick" cast has revealed a bit about their respective monikers, especially those that started out with entirely different ones. Let's break down each of...

“Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, ‘Dude, are you Cyclops?’ No, I’m not,” Powell told Variety. “Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.”
Powell later tweeted to clarify his comments, writing, “I sound angry and confused, but I promise it’s just confused.”
And it seems a “Top Gun” spin-off featuring co-star Miles Teller is “more likely” anyways, as Powell previously quipped.
“Miles and I always send each other screenshots of random people who hope that Rooster and Hangman end up together,” the actor explained. “It’s, like, ‘The Notebook’ but with Rooster and Hangman.

For a filmmaker behind the most enduring box office hit in a decade, Joseph Kosinski is exceptionally humble about “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Paramount and Skydance’s action-packed blockbuster, featuring Tom Cruise’s return to the skies 36 years after the original film, has become an unexpected sensation, bringing audiences young and old back to the big screen at a time when theaters are in desperate need of a win. In the process, “Maverick” has racked up an eye-popping 1.4 billion globally to stand as the highest-grossing movie of the year. Nobody has been more surprised by its success than Kosinski.
“I don’t know if I’ve wrapped my head around it. I’m amazed every day that it continues to play,” he says. The film, available on home entertainment on Aug. 23 at a premium price, has remained in the top five on domestic box office charts for 12 of its 13 weeks of release.

[This story contains spoilers for Top Gun: Maverick.]
Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick continues to break record after record, much like its titular character. The Top Gun sequel has now passed Avengers: Infinity War to become the sixth biggest domestic film of all time, and it currently ranks twelfth on the all-time worldwide box office list. It’s a staggering achievement, to say the least, for a sequel to Tony Scott’s 36-year-old film, especially since it doesn’t fit the profile of most record breakers today.
Naturally, when much of the population unites over a piece of pop culture like Maverick, fan theories are bound to emerge, and the leader of the pack revolved around the film’s opening sequence featuring the Darkstar hypersonic plane. The theory put forth the idea that Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) died after he eclipsed Mach 10 speed, making the...
