The Other Black Girl will not return.
Hulu has canceled the comedy series based on the book of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First put in development in April 2020 before Tara Duncan signed on to serve as president of Disney’s Bipoc-focused studio Onyx Collective, the 10-episode satirical comedy about the publishing world dropped its full season in September to impressive reviews. The series currently has an 86 percent rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences seem to have rejected The Other Black Girl with that score sitting at a lackluster 50 percent among viewers.
Danielle Henderson (Sorry for Your Loss) originally was set to serve as showrunner but was ultimately replaced by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey. Exec producers on the series included Onyx’s Duncan, Rashida Jones, Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach and author Harris.

Zakiya Dalila Harris rarely saw another natural-haired Black woman in the office. But one time it did. She was an assistant editor at Knopf Doubleday, a publishing group within Penguin Random House, and a woman stepped into the bathroom. Instead of a serendipitous smile, though, Harris received the cold shoulder from her colleague.
“I definitely thought we’d have some kind of, ‘Hey,’ the nod, and that didn’t happen,” Harris recalls. “I ended up going back to my desk and started writing this book.”

Zakiya Dalila Harris’ novel “The Other Black Girl” has hit the small screen in ten episodes filled with songs that support the story’s underlying message of compromising identity and Blackness in a majority-white workplace. Developed by Harris and Rashida Jones, who contributed the intro montage, to Episode 7 set to Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love,” the series crosses multiple genres from comedy to thriller and provides social commentary on how minority Poc employees compromise and navigate the social system of corporate America.
Set to Sza, TLC, Busta Rhymes, H.E.R., Janelle Monae and more, many scenes in the show become even stronger with the songs in the background. Co-showrunners Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout left the ending open for a potential second season. The suspense and humor go hand in hand with the soundtrack for “The Other Black Girl.”

Every minority in the good old U.S. of A has heard or internalized that damaging myth: There can only be one. One model minority, one diverse member of the team (or cast) — and in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl,” one editorial star at Wagner Books, as long as she falls in line. The 10-episode thriller (available all at once) is a faithful and gripping adaptation that will leave viewers exhilarated, entertained, and wanting more — especially from star Sinclair Daniel.
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Zakiya Dalila Harris, “The Other Black Girl” centers on Nella (Daniel), a rising editorial assistant whose world gets rocked in good and bad ways (and some in between) with the arrival of — you guessed it — a second Black girl in her workplace. The Other Black Girl is poised to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.
Hulu dropped the official trailer for its adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris' best-selling novel on Wednesday, and it's as unsettling as expected.
"Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she's excited when Hazel is hired," the logline reads.
"But as Hazel's star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company."
It's a compelling description, and the trailer nails what the above describes, so that's a good thing.
Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais star.
The Other Black Girl is executive produced by Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Hulu released the trailer Wednesday for “The Other Black Girl,” adapted from the best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris.
The series will follow Nella (Sinclair Daniels) who joyfully leaves her loneliness behind as the only Black employee at a publishing company, Wagner Books, when Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) gets hired as an editorial assistant like Nella.
Suddenly, all of Vera’s (Bellamy Young) demands become less grueling when she can share the experience of being Black at a majority white-staffed company with Hazel — until things get weird.
“Wagner’s just … you’ll see,” Nella tells Hazel at first in the trailer you can watch above.
Right as Vera tells Nella that she is ready to recommend a promotion to assistant editor from editorial assistant for Nella, some sinister things start happening that only Nella feels like she is aware of.

Showtime has announced the release date of their upcoming limited series “Fellow Travelers,” starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. The eight-episode drama will premiere on Oct. 27.
Created by Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner and based on Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name, “Fellow Travelers” is both a romance and a political thriller, depicting the secret relationship between two men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a man with a lucrative behind-the-scenes job in politics, and Bailey plays an idealistic, religious young man. Their romance begins at the same time that Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants.” The show tracks the protagonists over four decades, through the Vietnam War protests, the drugs and disco of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

It’s back to the drawing board for Clueless.
Nine months after a mystery reboot of the 1995 cult film landed at Peacock, the NBCUniversal-backed streamer has passed on further developing the comedy. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the title remains a valuable one for producers CBS Studios, with the ViacomCBS-backed outlet already planning to try its hand at redeveloping a potentially different update of the film that starred Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash.
The most recent stab at reviving Clueless was in the works for nearly a year before the script, penned by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace,...

The premier sassy Black friend is getting her own series, and I have several questions. Variety broke the news that NBC's Peacock has officially nabbed an in-development reboot of Clueless that centers on Dionne Davenport rather than the well-loved Cher Horowitz.
Though the series is currently untitled, its premise seems particularly fleshed out with Variety describing it as "a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher's vacant Air Jordans." The series follows Dionne as she deals with the pressures of being the most popular girl in school while unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend. It sounds like a lot for one show, but we're open to seeing how things develop as production begins.

Someone is going to try to replace Amy Heckerling’s dialogue and Alicia Silverstone as Cher? As if! Yet that appears to be the case with the announcement that the Clueless reboot is headed to NBCUniversal’s new Peacock streaming network.
The project has actually been in development since last year, but the announcement of it moving forward and finding a home at Peacock is a swift development. But the series, which is being written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey, takes a different direction than you might expect. With its focus on the character of Dionne, who was played by Stacey Dash in the original 1995 movie and the previous television adaptation attempt from 1996, the new Clueless clearly intends to offer a unique vantage on the privileges of Cher’s Beverly Hills high school experience.

Clueless is getting the TV show treatment.
Deadline is reporting a reboot of the Alicia Silverstone fronted 90s movie is in development at CBS TV studios.
The outlet also teases that several streamers are interested in the project as well as The CW, and it's not exactly surprising.
Clueless was a cultural phenomenon, so it was only a matter of time before a reboot of sorts entered development.
This new iteration is inspired by the 1995 movie as well as the 1996 comedy series, meaning that it will have things for people that loved both the movie and the comedy series.
This new series will zero in on the Dionne character, who was played by Stacey Dash in the movie.
The project is being sold as "Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video."
