Born on April 25, 1987 in New Jersey to Carlos and Odalys Ibarra, Jovanni first fell in love with cinema after watching The Wizard of Oz, the first film he ever saw, at age 3. Pestering his parents to watch it again and again, The Wizard of Oz is Jovanni's first cinematic memory, one he still remembers vividly.
Growing up, Jovanni was very active in athletics, excelling at baseball in particular. He was a multi time all star and standout player for most of his career on the diamond, leading him to dream of a career as a professional baseball player. However, a string of consecutive injuries began to take their toll on his body and a harsh reality check was in store. Knowing his body could not and would not hold up, as well as not being a prototypical ballplayer, Jovanni hung up his cleats after high school, leaving him empty and wondering if he would ever find something he felt as passionate about as he did about the game of baseball.
After struggling his first few semesters in college trying to declare a major and career path, Jovanni recalled enjoying acting in plays for his Drama Club his senior of high school and took an Introduction to Media class in an effort to find out more about the arts. He found more than he could bargain for as he has never looked back. Feeling even more passionate about film than he ever did about baseball, Jovanni has found his true calling as a cinematic storyteller eager to share his stories with anyone willing to watch.
An award-wining filmmaker so far in his young career, Jovanni has found his true calling and passion as a filmmaker and wouldn't have it any other way.
Like the Jersey boy he is, born and bred, Jovanni still resides in New Jersey with his wife, family and dogs.
