Christopher Walken is one of the most unique character actors of all time. Walken is renowned for his idiosyncratic mannerisms and has reinvented himself for audiences of many different generations. He has attracted some younger viewers with his frequent appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and Fatboy Slim's infamous "Weapon of Choice" music video.
Although Walken is largely associated with his comedic roles, he has delivered many riveting dramatic performances. At 79, Walken hasn't shown any signs that he is slowing down. He has recently found success on television with his roles as Burt Goodman on Apple TV+'s acclaimed science fiction series "Severance" and Frank Sheldon on Amazon Prime Video's crime series "The Outlaws." It was recently announced that Walken will be joining the cast of "Dune: Part Two" as Emperor Shaddam IV. It will be exciting to see Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides face off against the most fearsome antagonist in the "Dune" universe.

If you are a fan of classic Hollywood movie musicals, there is a strong chance you have probably had the debate: Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire? It's a silly debate, obviously, but pitting the two premiere tap-dancing leading men of some of the most loved films of all time against each other is a classic cinephile's version of, "Who would win in a fight, Superman or Wonder Woman?" If I have to choose, I choose Gene, but I have nothing against Fred. Despite their unparalleled hoofing skills, I go to the two men for completely different things. When I want athleticism and relatability, I go for Gene. When I want precision in both movement and story, I go for Fred.
Fred Astaire is undeniably Hollywood legend, thanks in large part to his on-screen chemistry with the equally delightful Ginger Rogers, but his path to stardom was not an obvious one.

As the reigning king of motion capture, Andy Serkis is pretty skilled at walking around on all fours. The former Gollum, King Kong and now Caesar from the “Planet of the Apes” series brought his “quadrupedding” talents to “The Graham Norton Show” this week, eventually forcing “Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Tom Holland to try his hand (and feet) at monkeying around.

“I happen to have with me some arm extensions, which we can all have a go with,” Serkis says before grabbing said extensions, which totally happened to just be sitting there. He then seamlessly transitions into silverback-gorilla mode and hobbles around as only a seasoned veteran could; Holland, meanwhile, goes wide-eyed when called upon to replicate the motion. (“How do you beat your chest with these things?” he asks after being given the arm extensions. )

I am a huge fan of what Jon Favreau and Disney did with The Jungle Book. It was a spectacular film that captured all of the things that we loved about the original animated film. When the director jumped on board to develop a new version of The Lion King, I was excited to see what he would do with it. Everyone seems to be calling the film a live-action adaptation, but the thing is Favreau will be using the same, yet updated technology, used to bring the animals to life in The Jungle Book in CG form.
Favreau recently appeared at New York City’s School of Visual Arts Theatre with Scarlett Johansson for the latest entry in the Tribeca Talks. It was there he talked about getting into the zone when directing a film saying:
"When you’re directing, you have to love [what you’re making]. You have to love it to the point of obsession.

The latter part of William "Wild Bill" Wellman's distinguished career is a little patchy, as much due to studio interference as anything else, but a fair bit of positive attention has focused on Track of the Cat (1954) a sweaty family melodrama about the hunt for a rapacious wildcat in the snowy wilds near Aspen, daringly filmed in color but with almost no actual color (the snow was crucial here). We've been looking at the wrong film. An almost exact opposite of Track of the Cat exists, one which trades that film's showy ambition for a quieter, but equally radical aesthetic. Where Robert Mitchum and his kin snarl at each other in Track of the Cat, in Good-bye, My Lady all is peaceful between old-timer Walter Brennan and his young nephew Brandon DeWilde (the kid from Shane). Where Track of the Cat uses a daring palette and widescreen compositions, Goodbye, My...

Tony Orsten, CEO of Andy Serkis’ performance capture studio, also discusses “the other Jungle Book”.
Bringing down the high cost of computer generated effects continues to prove a major challenge, according to Tony Orsten, CEO of The Imaginarium.
Speaking at the Media Production Show in London, Orsten impressed delegates with behind the scenes footage from video game Ryse: Son Of Rome, Coldplay’s music video for Adventure of a Lifetime and television series Fungus The Bogeyman.
But the boss of the performance capture studio, founded by Andy Serkis and producer Jonathan Cavendish in 2011, said keeping budgets down remained a challenge.
Talking about Fungus The Bogeyman, which aired over Christmas 2015 on Sky 1 and was produced with Dneg TV, Orsten said: “With Fungus, we were able to produce top level CG for television on TV budgets.
“TV is now producing more content at levels comparable to film. But we need to take CG costs down and make them available...

Andy Serkis’ postponed Jungle Book: Origins will offer up a “darker, scarier” version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic adventure tale.
That’s according to the writer-director-actor himself, who revealed the tonal differences with Disney and Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book in an interview with Vulture. There, Serkis likened Origins‘ target audience to that of Fox’s lucrative Apes franchise, bringing it closer to the tone found in Kipling’s original story.
As such, it seems safe to assume the 2018 release will be aligning itself with a PG-13 rating, and here the performance maestro touched base on how it’ll differ from this year’s The Jungle Book.
“Ours is for a slightly older audience,” Serkis said. “It’s a PG-13, more a kind of ‘Apes’ movie, a slightly darker take, closer to Rudyard Kipling’s. It’s great to scare kids in a safe environment because it’s an important part of development,...

Perhaps lost in the overwhelming success of Disney’s The Jungle Book (and the inevitable announcement of a sequel) is the fact that there’s another Jungle Book movie that’s just been filmed. But director Andy Serkis said people shouldn’t expect to see the same movie as the one that Jon Favreau just made. "It's a PG-13, more a kind of Apes [Planet of the Apes] movie, a slightly darker take, closer to Rudyard Kipling’s,” Serkis told Vulture. "It’s great to scare kids in a safe environment because it’s an important part of development, and we all loved to be scared as kids, so we shouldn’t overly protect them." Jungle Book is Serkis’ directorial debut, but don’t think the motion capture king would pass on being in front of the camera as well. He’ll play Baloo alongside Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Benedict Cumberbatch. Andy Serkis...

Two movies that have seemed doomed because of competing projects are still on track and far from in trouble. Find out the latest on the non-Disney live-action Jungle Book adaptation and the next Alien sequel below. The Jungle Book Even if Disney's new live-action remake of their animated version of The Jungle Book wasn't such a huge hit, the similar adaptation set up at Warner Bros. would have been in trouble just for its being the second of a dueling pair to arrive. The studio has since delayed release of their own live-action Jungle Book, which is being helmed by performance-capture master Andy Serkis, who also plays Baloo. And while we now have until October 2018 to see this one, the production is taking the time to get help from filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron...

Deadline reports that Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron has come on board to help out with Andy Serkis' upcoming take on Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. The film, which previously went by the title The Jungle Book: Origins, has reportedly been changed to simply Jungle Book — a questionable decision if you ask me, considering how popular Jon Favreau's version has become in theaters across the world over the past few days. Cuaron isn't coming in to take over directing or anything like that — principal photography is already complete — but he'll be offering notes and suggestions on how the movie might be able to utilize the new time it finds itself with in the wake of its recent year-long delay.
The film was originally intended to come out on October 6, 2017, but it's been bumped all the way back to October 19, 2018, and Serkis — who is directing the movie and starring...

Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron will help collaborate on Warner Bros. Pictures and director Andy Serkis’ own version of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
Inside sources say the Gravity director is on board to oversee and give notes on the film which was pushed back from its initial October 2017 release date to October 2018 which gives the studio and Serkis to improve on the film. Cuaron is a friend to the studio and there is sensitivity to this being misinterpreted as Cuaron taking over this movie. Serkis is still locked in as director as is the voice cast which includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Matthew Rhys, with Serkis also starring as Baloo the bear.
Disney and director Jon Favreau are enjoying huge success with their Jungle Book after grossing more than $103.5 million domestically and $138.6 million internationally.

Jon Favreau brings lush CGI, dark shadows and big-beast stars to a rebooted classic
Related: Disney to make live-action Peter Pan
Like Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, Jon Favreau’s “live action” Jungle Book reboot owes as much (if not more) to Disney’s classic cartoon as it does to the tale’s literary source. Using state of the art CGI environments (very little of what you see is actually “live”) and Life of Pi-style animal animations, this breathes delightful new life into a longstanding family favourite, lending digital depth and a hint of darkness to the familiar anthropomorphic encounters, in the process dispelling all memories of 2003’s ill-conceived Jungle Book 2. Neel Sethi is terrific as Mowgli, whose frame and stance eerily echo those of his animated predecessor, while Bill Murray and Christopher Walken lend baggy appeal and mobster menace respectively to the vocal roles of Baloo and King Louie.

Goes right up to the bleeding edge of cinema to tell a story that is strapping yet simple, and hugely appealing. Disney found a good reason to redo an old film. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

Hollywood is in the grips of a terrible fever that might most kindly be called “a fear of the new” and least generously “creative bankruptcy.” The disease has been manifesting itself in the spate of remakes and reboots of older films… sometimes films that aren’t even that old. In anticipation of Disney's live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book," Moviefone had the opportunity to chat with director Jon Favreau about what inspired him to re-imagine the beloved animated classic.
Opening this Friday, Favreau's movie takes us back into the jungle with Mowgli and friends using cutting-edge technology that renders an incredible, photo-realistic world in 3D. When you see it, you'll be shocked by the knowledge that "The Jungle Book" was shot entirely in Downtown Los Angeles using practical sets and Dolby vision laser projection. In other words, if you thought movies like "Avatar" and "Life of Pi" looked amazing, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
We also get some of what we love from the original musical Walt Disney production but fit to reflect the time and outfitted with a stellar voice cast. Newcomer Neel Sethi plays Mowgli and is joined by Sir Ben Kingsley (Bagheera), Lupita Nyong'o (Raksha), Bill Murray...

Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book has been adapted to film numerous times over the years. The 1942 live-action film, which you can see via Hulu Plus if you have it, remains beautiful and mysterious even now, while the 1967 Disney animated version is one of their most iconic films. Years ago, when I was still new to Los Angeles, there was a stretch of about 18 months where my writing partner and I shared an apartment with a married couple named Dave and Laura. Laura was a preposterously sweet woman, and she had a keen affection for Disney animation. In particular, she loved Mowgli and his gangly, lanky frame, all elbows and angles. About halfway through last night’s press screening of the new Jon Favreau version, I couldn’t help but laugh, thinking about how much Laura’s going to love Neel Sethi, who stars as Mowgli, because he looks like...

Disney's latest live-action update of one of its classic animated features is "The Jungle Book." But don't expect just a shiny CG update of the 1967 cartoon that turned Rudyard Kipling's fierce beasts into mostly adorable, toy-ready critters. For one thing, if you've seen the trailers, you know this new version features some impressive-looking animals, speaking with the voices of some impressive stars. For another thing, its director is Jon Favreau, who helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe with "Iron Man."
Favreau and Disney clearly wanted to make something more than just a retread of the studio's 1967 cartoon -- or Disney's 1994 live-action version. Judging by the 100% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, they've pulled it off. Here are five things you need to know before entering the "Jungle."

It’s remake time again. Since there’s another remake coming out of the story we’re looking at today, it seemed like a perfect time to dissect this one. This week, Cinelinx looks at Jungle Book.
The novel “Jungle Book” was written by Rudyard Kipling (Author of Gunga Din and The Man Who Would Be King) in 1894. It was a series of short stories using anthropomorphic animals to tell tales reflecting the conflict between man and nature. Three of the stories featured Mowgli, a boy raised in the jungle by animals (Mowgli was partly the inspiration for Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan) and is torn between his two worlds. There have been several film interpretations of this story, with a new one coming out this week. The two most famous are the first adaptation from 1942, and the popular animated Disney musical version from 1967. (We’ll skip the 1994 version with Jason Scott Lee...

Disney is so bullish on “The Jungle Book,” which hits theaters this Friday, that it is already in talks to bring back director Jon Favreau and screenwriter Justin Marks for a sequel, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap. Neel Sethi, who plays Mowgli in the film, will also return for “Jungle Book 2,” which would be produced by Favreau. Marks’ script would draw from additional works by “Jungle Book” author Rudyard Kipling. The voice cast is also expected to return, including Bill Murray as Baloo the bear, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera the panther, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa the.

Though parts of the film towards the end becomes excessively crowded and flurried there is a cuddlesome quality to this new large-screen adaptation of the beloved Rudyard Kipling fable about a little boy Mowgli who is brought up in the jungles by animals.
Suspension of disbelief be damned. The animals speak in human voices. The film literally finds its voice on the soundtrack.Every actor has given a unique dimension to one of the principal animals. Bagheera the wise panther becomes a pantheon of prudence in Om Puri’s voice. Priyanka Chopra’s seductive snake act is a bit of a stretch, coiling as it does its hypnotic hold over Mowgli in what seems like an invitation to sniff coke at a rave party. Scarlet Johansson does the serpentine’s saga...

When Jon Favreau set out to direct Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book, which debuts on 8 April in India, he was tasked with bringing to life some of the most iconic animal characters ever seen on screen, from Baloo the bear to Shere Khan the tiger. But rather than relying on abused captive animals to create the film, Favreau turned to advanced computer-generated imagery (CGI), explaining, “It’s amazing what they can do with [creating the appearance of] fur and live-flesh animals, and so every day I go into work it’s astounding what these visual effects artists accomplish.”
The result is a realistic yet mythical world filled with larger-than-life, anthropomorphic animals who live, breathe, fight, and flee amidst lively, lush scenery. And in thanks for Favreau’s compassionate decision, PETA Us is presenting the director with an Innovation in Film Award.

The Hindi version of The Jungle Book, just got bigger! In a series of unstoppable coups, Disney India has collaborated with none other than Vishal Dadlani – the talented rockstar and famed Hindi Film singer and composer for the Hindi rendition of the iconic “Bare Necessities” in Jon Favreau’s all-new live action epic adventure, The Jungle Book.
‘The Bare Necessities’ featured Mowgli and Baloo the friendly bear in Disney’s 1967 animated movie, The Jungle Book. It is written by Terry Gilkinson and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1967. The song wasn’t just a happy melody but a wonderful mantra for life, which makes it a hit.

The beloved animated Disney movie The Jungle Book is being reimagined this spring in a new live-action adventure. In the story, Baloo, the bear, teaches Mowgli, the man cub, how to have a laid back, sloth-like existence. But his lazy ways aren’t all that bad. After all, you can make a mean fruit salad with very little effort at all. This is one "recipe" where even the littlest kids can help. Make these fun and healthy snacks using the fruits we suggest,...

From the moment I saw the first footage of The Jungle Book at D23 last year, I knew that Disney and director Jon Favreau had something special on their hands. That first footage gave me goosebumps and brought tears of joy and excitement not just to me, but to everyone in attendance. I am happy to say that while I watched the full incredible adventure of Mowgli and his animal friends unfold on the big screen, I was flooded with those same exact feelings.
Like many of you, I grew up on the old Disney animated films, and I absolutely loved The Jungle Book. One of the things I was most looking forward to seeing is how well this live-action/CGI film carried the spirit of the original. The trailers for the film made us believe it was there, but until we see the film in its entirety, we never really know what to expect.

While we don’t expect the live-action version of Disney’s upcoming The Jungle Book to be an exact remake of their 1967 animated version, there is one moment that has been teased in the trailer that tells us part of the classic will be brought back into the new version. The song "Bear Necessities" will be performed by the film’s stars, Bill Murray and Neel Sethi. If you can’t wait to hear them perform it, then there’s good news. The pair did it on TV last night. Check it out. Ahead of The Jungle Book’s April 15th release Bill Murray, who voices Baloo the bear, and Neel Sethi, who plays the "man-cub" Mowgli, were guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I think you really get a good sense of a movie by watching the film clips that are released for it. Good trailers can hide a bad movie from audiences, but clips let you in on how scenes actually play out in the film. They show you true aspects of dialogue, action, character, and story.
Disney has released three film clips from Jon Favreau’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book. The trailers have already got me excited for the movie, but these clips offer of a taste of what we can truly expect and I like what I see!
The first clip is called “Baloo,” and it features Mowgli meeting the big lovable bear for the first time. The second clip is called “Hibernation,” and it features Mowgli helping Baloo get ready for hibernation. The third and final clip is called “Mowgli Leaves The Pack” and it...

There has been quite a few clips from Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book lately, and normally I’d complain about a movie dropping so much, but they’ve all been quite wonderful, and served as little character pieces as opposed to giving too much of the story away. Which brings us nicely to this latest clip which reveals Bill Murray’s Baloo in all his glory, and hammers home the fact that there was no better man for the job. Released: April 15th...

Disney has released a bunch of promo material for Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book recently, including the first clip from the film, which features a frightening Shere Khan. There are also a series of photos that feature the cast of the film with the animal characters that they play in the film. You'll see Scarlett Johansson and Kaa, Giancarlo Esposito and Akela, Ben Kingsley and Bagheera, Christopher Walken and King Louie, Lupita Nyong'o and Raksha, and Idris Elba and Shere Khan. Each of the images come with a description of the character and quote from the actor who plays them. I’m kinda sad that there isn’t one of Billy Murray with Baloo. I also included a new TV spot and a collection of character posters.
I'm so excited to see this movie. I'm such a huge fan of the original animated film, and this looks like a perfect live-action adaptation.

While the Jungle Book trailers we've seen thus far have been great on spectacle, they admittedly haven't really done a whole lot to push a narrative. Those who haven't seen the original animated film (I'm sure they're out there somewhere) wouldn't even know what the story is about too much if they didn't peruse for the synopsis. That is, until now.

When it comes to stories from “The Jungle Book,” Indians feel a deep sense of ownership as the timeless tale is set in India. After getting the impressive line-up of Indian talent to voice the iconic characters in Disney’s all-new, live-action epic film “The Jungle Book,” Disney India now gears up to welcome Neel Sethi aka Mowgli. Neel was hand-picked by director Jon Favreau from over 2000 hopefuls to play the role of Mowgli. 12-year-old Neel will visit India later this month to present the film and visit some very special sites while in Mumbai.
“The Jungle Book” is Neel’s first film as an actor and interestingly he plays the only human being in the story!
