Spike Jonze has finally released his 28-minute short film Scenes From the Suburbs which is available for free viewing on Mubi right now, and should also be available online via Playstation. The short is a collaboration with members of the recent Grammy winners Arcade Fire and will be featured in a deluxe edition of Arcade Fire’s album The Suburbs that includes a behind the scenes doc, some extra tracks and more.
The bad news is the short seems to only be available in the U.S. which is a shame considering the band emerged mostly from Montreal. Considering we reside in Montreal, we aren’t very happy about it.
Scenes From the Suburbs stars unknowns (Sienna Blau, Sam Dillon, Zoe Graham, Zeke Jarmon, Paul Pluymen and Ashlin Williams) and was described as follows in the Berlin festival program:
“I wish I could remember every little moment. But I can’t.

I wish I could remember every little moment. But I can’t. Why do I only remember the moments that I do. I wonder what happens to the others.” A group of suburban youths. Back then, in the summer, so long ago. They couldn’t leave town because outside the country was at war and the military controlled life and all gateways. The teenagers wander aimlessly about town. Winter is a long way off. And love and longing and friendship still mean – everything.
The short film will also be bundled in the 'Scenes From the Suburbs' album re-release.
