Anticipation for 2017’s major festivals is at an all time high, with Coachella‘s lineup serving as the holy grail of the entire season. We’ve already heard some rumors about the alleged headliners, while DJ Khaled inadvertently spilled the beans on his slot at the festival. Now we have another enticing update to ponder with a list that attempts to predict the entire lineup.
A website called TravelGrom has consistently made predictions about Coachella lineups in the past with a high degree of accuracy compared to the average rumor, and they’ve just offered up their projections for 2017. While the information is just conjecture at this point, TravelGrom predicted last year’s lineup with 64% accuracy. If that figure holds true again, over half of the list will wind up on the official lineup.
The alleged lineup includes a diverse array of styles, with representation from Edm, Rock, Rap, Pop and everything in between.

Next month, Terrence Malick returns to the big screen with "Knight Of Cups," his latest picture that finds him searching for meaning and the answers to life's questions in the modern world. The latest look at new footage from the film gets a bit more rock 'n roll than we're used to seeing from the director. Read More: Berlin Review: Terrence Malick's Knight Of Cups' Starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett & Natalie Portman The two clips, "Sensation" and "Della," feature Bosco Delrey's "Cool Out" and Thee Oh Sees' "Visit Colonel" respectively, which marks a rare shift from Malick's preference of classic music and original score compositions (which 'Knight' mostly consists of). Meanwhile, we all know Malick has more on deck, and at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, producer Sarah Green teased what was coming. First, she noted that the director's next picture, the Austin music scene based movie starring Ryan Gosling.

Announcing a hiatus in 2013, the indie world cried at the loss of prolific San Francisco garage-rockers Thee Oh Sees. Audience tears turned to confusion when the band returned just a few months later with the relatively laid back sunshine pop of “Drop.” In 2015, Thee Oh Sees have returned in full force with the groovy, atmospheric and hard hitting “Mutilator Defeated At Last,” bringing with it a new rhythm section and long time contributor Brigid Dawson on keys/background vocals, who was absent from their last record.Album opener “Web” weaves a loping, bassy, psychedelic groove that builds a frenetic energy […]...

There’s a shit load of garage bands nowadays, if you have been involved in the Los Angeles music scene you already know this.Be it the Tijuana Panthers, Thee Oh Sees or Dirt Dress, Southern California bands are on the perennial quest of conjoining their Punk rock-gone surfing U.S.A. with 60’s Psychedelic Rock and Proto Garage. Bad news is that you can’t mosh while you’re surfing, but good news it sounds like it with a lot of these bands. When this sound is fairly pervasive it’s hard to find stand out groups like the three I had mentioned. One group in […]...

This is how it goes with Terrence Malick — long stretches of quiet around whatever he's working on, followed by an intense period of scrutiny as it gets unveiled. And so it goes today, with "Knight Of Cups" premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival. The first poster was revealed, our review is right here, and we've gotten our hands on all the music featured in the director's latest look at the soul of man (or something). As per usual, Malick leans heavily on classical jams, with compositions by Arvo Part, Claude Debussy, Edvard Grieg, and more. For those of you want to cue up your playlists with something more contemporary, there are tunes by Thee Oh Sees, Explosions In The Sky, Burial, and a ton of music by ambient electronic artist Biosphere. Below you'll find the full list of songs, and on the next page, all the tracks your ears can handle.

This week, alternative comedy's single greatest sentence constructor Patton Oswalt premieres Tragedy + Comedy = Time, his fifth hour-long special for Comedy Central (airing April 6), and his soon-to-be-released fifth stand-up LP. Having built a career on punk-rock touring cycles and venomous rants against fast food chains, Oswalt is now masterfully and hilariously playing the long game, embracing less esoteric references (though Werner Herzog still gets a shout-out) and accepting the things that make him an adult. As the guy who once took down Jackyl on a comedy album lays out: "I don't hate any music any more…...

Over the weekend, we found out a truckload more information about GTA V, specifically as it pertains to the sound of the game. Rockstar announced that GTA V will have a whopping 15 radio stations along with 2 talk radio stations, totaling over 240 licensed songs, and also an original, context-sensitive score provided by Tangerine Dream’s Edgar Froese, Woody Jackson (who previously worked on Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire), and The Alchemist & Oh No.
In addition to the five tracks that Rockstar released samples of, we’ve also learned that the likes of Pam Grier and Kenny Loggins will be hosting other radio stations (soul and rock respectively). While some stations are starting to leak out given the Psn screw-up last week, Rockstar have posted some official sample clips to whet our appetites ahead of the September 17th release date…

So the lineup for Fyf, or F*ck Yeah Festival, 2013 is pretty much amazing.
The big names: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, My Bloody Valentine, TV on the Radio, Beach House, Yo La Tengo, Deerhunter, Mgmt, Devendra Banhart, Washed Out, Solange and Flag.
Our other personal favorites: Kurt Vile, Thee Oh Sees, Foxygen, Charles Bradley and, of course, the legendary Jonathan Richman.
The lineup is so fantastic that single-day tickets sold out soon after they went on sale Thursday at noon. Weekend passes are still available for $99. Sure, that's a lot more than the "good old days" when Fyf was Diy and $20... but we still think the lineup makes it worth it.
See the poster lineup below, and check out photos of some of the bands we're excited for:...

For not our first, not our second, but in fact our third look at the career of director Michael Bay, he of the outsized blockbuster, we focus on “low-budget” Bay. That includes his newest effort, the relatively small-scale Pain & Gain, which has already garnered some very divided attention, along with his 1995 feature debut, Bad Boys. Ricky D was unable to join in, but Josh Spiegel and Simon Howell do their best to keep pace in his absence. - Playlist:

5) The Pastels “Check My Heart”

All the videos featured in this week’s 5 Best Music Videos Of The Week all share one thing in common and that’s wonderfully simple concepts. I’ve always preferred videos with simple concepts, as they allow more focus on what we’re actually watching. This may be a personal preference, but I wholeheartedly enjoy music videos better when the emphasis is on the cinematography. To match with their pleasantly catchy single “Check My Heart”, The Pastels and Blair Young have released a video which captures the essence of travel. It’s warm, fun and makes me feel like I want to jump into it and live the life they are depicting.

The Blank Tapes is the musical moniker of California instrumentalist Matt Adams. Adams has been making music since 2003, and unsurprisingly his summery garage rock jams have become huge hits in places like Brazil. After touring Europe with Thee Oh Sees and R. Stevie Moore, Adams is back and set to release The Blank Tapes’ new material on forthcoming LP Vacation. The album title makes sense, too, when you hear the beachy vibe of the first single, “Holy Roller.” Listen to the track in the player below, and look out for Vacation, set for release via Oakland, Calif.’s Antenna Farm...
